Monday Injury Report

Quarterbacks

Atlanta's Michael Vick is sidelined indefinitely while his ankle continues to heal.

Status: With the team in the tank, don't expect the Falcons to rush Vick back into the lineup. Nov. 2nd is no longer a target date, nor is the team discussing a date for Vick's return at the current time.



Chicago's former starting QB Kordell Stewart missed the game on Sunday, partially due to his injured leg.

Status: The leg injury classified Stewart as doubtful to play this weekend, while his performance to date in 2003 has led many to believe his stay on the bench may be lengthy.



Green Bay's Brett Favre has a broken right thumb.

Status: The injury is called a hairline fracture, and isn't expected to keep Favre out of the lineup. He played with the injury on Sunday, and it didn't seem to affect his performance. With Green Bay on bye this week, the team hopes the digit will be fully healed by week 9.



Philadelphia's Donovan McNabb struggled throwing the ball again on Sunday, due to his injured thumb. Coach Reid admitted he was close to benching McNabb at the end of the first half this week, but left him in (to go 2/7 for 10 yards in the second half).

Status: Reid said he plans to "back off" McNabb this week, which may mean reps in practice or even a start for backup Koy Detmer. Stay Tuned this week, McNabb owners.



San Francisco's Jeff Garcia is still experiencing swelling in his injured right forearm, but stated after the game that the lingering soreness is not affecting his throwing in the games.

Status: Expect Garcia to sit out of early-week practices, but play in the next game.



Washington's starting QB Patrick Ramsey injured his right hand in the game on Sunday.

Status: The injury is being characterized as a bruise and isn't expected to keep Ramsey out next week. X-rays for serious damage were negative.



Baltimore's starting QB Kyle Boller sprained his shoulder in the fourth quarter of the game on Sunday.

Status: The injury is considered minor.



Cleveland's starting QB Tim Couch injured his left ankle in the game on Sunday.

Status: X-rays were negative, and the injury isn't a concern. However, Couch's poor play and Holcomb's return to action in the second half (when he threw 2 TD's) have re-started the QB controversy in Cleveland. Coach Davis will announce this week's starter on Wednesday after evaluating game tape, according to reports.



Denver's starting QB Jake Plummer is out for several weeks with a broken foot.



Denver's new starting QB, Steve Beuerlein, dislocated and broke the pinkie finger on his right hand in the game on Sunday.

Status: Beuerlein is expected to be sidelined for several weeks due to the injury. The Broncos are in serious trouble at this position now. Danny Kanell is the new starter, and Jarious Jackson may be brought back to be #2 (Jeff George, Neil O'Donnell and Danny Wueffel are the other candidates).



Miami's starting QB Jay Fiedler injured his left knee in the game on Sunday.

Status: Fiedler may have a sprained MCL in the knee - an MRI is scheduled to further evaluate the injury and to determine the severity of the sprain.



New York Jet's starting QB Chad Pennington missed last weeks game due to his injured wrist, but may be ready to return to action this week. An announcement is expected on Monday to the effect that Pennington will return to action vs. Philadelphia.



Running Backs

Carolina's FB Nick Goings suffered a concussion on Sunday.

Status: The severity of the concussion isn't known, but concussions are notoriously tricky to recover from and may cost Goings some time in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for further details...



Chicago's starting RB Anthony Thomas missed the game on Sunday due to his injured foot.

Status: Thomas was listed as out prior to the game. It is unclear if he will be available this week, either.



Chicago's new starting RB, Adrian Peterson, injured his ankle in the game vs. Seattle.

Status: The extent of the injury is not currently known - Peterson is being evaluated further to determine the severity of the injury.



Green Bay's starting RB Ahman Green tweaked an ankle in the game on Sunday.

Status: Green didn't return to play, but the injury isn't considered serious at this time.



St. Louis' starting RB Lamar Gordon injured his left ankle in the game on Sunday.

Status: Gordon did not return to the game, making Arlen Harris the RB playing on Sunday. Gordon's injury is under evaluation - the severity is not clear at the present time.



St. Louis' Marshall Faulk remains sidelined with his fractured left hand. In remarks on the 17th, coach Martz indicated that Faulk's return might be pushed back later than the 26th of October (but that was before Gordon injured his ankle on Sunday).



Washington's starting RB Trung Canidate missed the game on Sunday as expected, due to his sprained ankle. His status for the game vs. Dallas week 9 is uncertain.



Washington's new starting RB Ladell Betts injured his left forearm in the game on Sunday.

Status: The injury is a fractured radius, and may keep him out for a few weeks. Reports indicate that Betts is definitely out for the week 9 game vs. Dallas (week 8 is the Redskin's bye week). If neither Betts or Canidate can go, rookie Sultan McCullough and FB Rock Cartwright would have to carry the load, along with return specialist Chad Morton.



Baltimore's Jamal Lewis injured shoulder was sore after the game on Sunday.

Status: Lewis characterized the injury as a "hurt" rather than an "injury" and said he'd play next week as usual.



Buffalo's backup RB Sammy Morris continues to be sidelined due to healing from hernia surgery.



Cleveland's starting RB William Green injured his shoulder in the game on Sunday.

Status: Green indicated the shoulder was fine after the game, although results of the X-rays were not yet available.



Miami's starting FB Rob Konrad missed the game on Sunday due to his injured knee.

Status: Konrad was listed as doubtful before the game.



New England's starting RB Antowain Smith (shoulder) missed the game on Sunday.

Status: Smith was listed as questionable before the game.



The Patriots released FB Larry Centers on Sunday, partially due to an injured right knee.



Tennessee's reserve RB Chris Brown missed the game on Sunday due to his injured hamstring.

Status: Brown was listed as questionable before the game.



Wide Receivers

Atlanta's reserve WR LaTarence Dunbar missed the game on Sunday due to his injured hamstring.

Status: This ongoing injury has kept Dunbar on the sidelines all season. He was listed as doubtful before the game.



Chicago's starting WR Marty Booker missed the game on Sunday due to his injured ankle.

Status: Booker was listed as questionable on the Friday injury report.



Chicago's backup WR Ahmad Merritt strained his neck in the game on Sunday, and did not return to action.

New Orleans' starting WR Donte Stallworth injured his quadriceps in the game on Sunday.

Status: Stallworth did not return to action - the extent of the injury is not known at this time.



New York Giant's reserve WR Willie Ponder missed the game on Sunday due to his injured hip.

Status: Ponder has missed several weeks due to this injury. He was listed as questionable prior to the game.



St. Louis' reserve WR Mike Furrey missed the game on Sunday due to his appendix operation.

Status: Furrey was listed as out prior to the game.



Tampa Bay's backup WR Joe Jurevicius missed the game on Sunday due to his injured knee.

Status: Jurevicius was listed as doubtful before the game.



Baltimore's backup WR Ron Johnson missed the game on Sunday due to his injured knee.

Status: Johnson is expected to miss more time due to this injury.



Buffalo's starting WR Eric Moulds missed the game on Sunday due to his groin injury.

Status: Moulds was a game-time decision - he was listed as questionable on the Friday injury report. Moulds said after the game that he was very close to being ready to play this week, but decided right before the game that bump-and-run coverage would cause him trouble so waited for next week. Moulds expects to play next week.



Cincinnati's reserve WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh missed the game on Sunday due to his injured hamstring.

Status: Houshmandzadeh was listed as questionable prior to the game - this injury has sidelined him the entire season.



Denver's starting WR Ed McCaffrey missed the game on Sunday due to his bum knee.

Status: McCaffrey was listed as probable on the Friday injury report.



New England's reserve WR Bethel Johnson was shaken up in the game on Sunday but returned to action.

Status: Johnson's injury was minor.



New York Jets' starting WR Wayne Chrebet missed the game on Sunday due to his injured back.

Status: Chrebet was listed as out prior to the game.



San Diego's starting WR Reche Caldwell missed the game on Sunday due to his injured wrist.

Status: Caldwell is hoping to return in early November from this injury.



Tight Ends

Chicago's starting TE Desmond Clark injured his toe in the game vs. Seattle.

Status: Clark was in a walking boot after the game, and could miss a few weeks.



Green Bay's backup TE Wesley Walls sprained a knee in the game on Sunday.

Status: The injury is considered minor at this time.



San Francisco's starting TE Eric Johnson remains sidelined due to his broken clavicle.



Seattle's reserve TE Ryan Hannam sprained his knee in the game on Sunday.

Status:



San Diego's starting TE Stephen Alexander missed the game on Sunday due to his groin injury.

Status: This is an ongoing injury and Alexander is out indefinitely.



Tennessee's starting TE Frank Wycheck continues to be sidelined due to his multiple concussions and post-concussion syndrome.

Status: Wycheck was listed as questionable on the injury report, but isn't expected back anytime soon.



Kickers

New York Giant's PK Matt Bryant continues to be sidelined by his hamstring injury.

Status: Bryant was listed as out on the Friday injury report.



San Diego's starting P Darren Bennett injured his ankle in the game on Sunday.

Status: The extent of the injury is unknown at this time.



Offensive Lineman

Atlanta's starting LG Travis Claridge missed the game on Sunday due to his injured knee.

Status: Claridge was listed as doubtful before the game.



Chicago's backup OL Corbin Lacina missed the game on Sunday due to his concussion.

Status: Lacina was listed as out prior to the game.



New York Giant's starting LG Rich Seubert broke his right leg in the game on Sunday.

Status: Seubert is out for the foreseeable future due to the injury. He was scheduled for surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery on Sunday night and is expected to be gone for the season. The Giant's line is very green, and just got greener, as Seubert's replacement is rookie Jeff Roehl. 3 rookies will now be starting on the Giants' O-line, including C Wayne Lucier and RG David Diehl. Teams have been able to get a lot of pressure on Collins through the center of the Giants' line in recent weeks.



Philadelphia's starting RG Jermaine Mayberry left the game after aggravating his injured elbow Sunday.

Status: This is an ongoing injury that has limited Mayberry in several games. He is expected to miss this week's game vs. the Jets to allow the injury time to heal.



San Francisco's starting LT Derrick Deese and starting LG Eric Heitmann both missed the game on Sunday due to their injured ankles.

Status: Both players were listed as doubtful before the game.



Seattle's OT Floyd Womack remains sidelined due to his injured toe.



Washington's starting LG Dave Fiore missed the game on Sunday due to his knee injury.

Status: Fiore was listed as out on the Friday injury report.



Washington's starting LT Chris Samuels suffered a pinched nerve in his neck in the game on Sunday.

Status: Samuel's injury is considered minor at this point.



Cleveland's starting LT Barry Stokes re-injured his right ankle in the game on Sunday.

Status: Stoke's injury left the Browns with only 5 healthy players on the OL - the line is very thin in Cleveland right now. The severity of the aggravation is not known at this time.



Cleveland's starting C Jeff Faine missed the game on Sunday due to his injured knee.

Status: Faine was listed as doubtful on the Friday injury report.



Cleveland's starting LG Shaun O'Hara is sidelined indefinitely after having knee surgery this past week.



Denver's starting LT Epraim Salaam is having more trouble with his injured knee, and is scheduled for an MRI today.



Houston's starting RT Greg Randall injured his shoulder/neck in the game on Sunday.

Status: Randall did not return to the game, but characterized the injury as OK but sore after the game - he is expected to play this week as usual.



Houston's starting LG Milford Brown missed the game on Sunday due to his injured knee.

Status: Brown was listed as probable on the Friday injury report.



Miami's starting LT Mark Dixon missed the game on Sunday due to his injured ankle.

Status: Dixon was listed as doubtful before the game.



New England's starting T Adrian Klemm is now on IR due to his injured ankle.



San Diego's starting C Jason Ball injured his ankle in the game on Sunday.

Status: The extent of the injury is unknown at this time.



Defensive Players

Atlanta's starting LB Keith Brooking injured his back in the game on Sunday.

Status: Brooking broke bones in his lower back, and is out 4-6 weeks. With Sam Rogers and Will Overstreet on IR, the LB position is suddenly very thin in Atlanta. Coach Reeves said after the game that "we can't stop anybody right now."



Atlanta's starting SS Cory Hall remains sidelined due to a knee injury.

Status: Hall was listed as doubtful before the game.



Atlanta's starting LB Sam Rogers was placed on IR last week, and is done for the season.



Carolina's starting MLB Dan Morgan was concussed in the game on Sunday, and did not return to action.

Status: Morgan was pretty severely concussed - recovery from concussions can be tricky, with side effects showing up weeks after the initial injury. He could miss the next game, and maybe more time.



Carolina's backup LB Brian Allen injured his groin in the game on Sunday.

Status: The severity of the pull isn't known at this time.



Chicago's starting SS Mike Green pulled a groin muscle in the game on Sunday.

Status: The extent of the injury is not known at the present time.



Chicago's starting WLB Warrick Holdman (ankle), and starting DT Keith Traylor (knee) both missed the game Sunday, as expected.

Status: Both players were listed as out prior to the game. Traylor is expected to miss more time, while Holdman will be evaluated further later in the week regarding his status for this week's game vs. Detroit.



Detroit's backup DE Jared DeVries injured his knee on Sunday.

Status: The injury is considered minor at this time.



Green Bay's starting DE Joe Johnson is on IR now, as expected, due to his torn quadriceps.



Green Bay's starting NT Gilbert Brown missed the game on Sunday due to his injured knee.

Status: Brown had been listed as probable on the Friday injury report.



Green Bay's backup NT (starting this week for Brown) Rod Walker sprained his knee in the game on Sunday.

Status: The injury is considered minor at this time.



Green Bay's backup LB Paris Lennon aggravated his sprained left knee in the game on Sunday.

New York Giant's starting CB William Peterson missed the game Sunday due to his back injury.

Status: Peterson was listed as out prior to the game. His stress fracture is expected to keep him out until December.



Philadelphia's starting SS Michael Lewis strained a hamstring in the game on Sunday.

Status: The severity of the pull isn't known at this time, and he will be evaluated further later in the week.

Seattle's starting RCB Ken Lucas (ankle) and reserve LB Tracey White (foot) missed the game on Sunday.

Tampa Bay's starting SS John Lynch injured his right shoulder in the game on Sunday.

Status: The injury is a stinger (which tend to recur), and Lynch was unable to continue on Sunday. The severity of the injury is under review.



Tampa Bay's backup SS John Howell suffered a concussion in the game on Sunday.

Houston's starting ROLB Charlie Clemons (sprained ankle) and his backup Antwan Peek (thumb injury) were hurt in the game Sunday.

Status: The severity of the injuries is unknown at the current time.

New England's starting LB's Ted Johnson (foot), Mike Vrabel (arm) and Willie McGinest (neck), reserve DB Je'Rod Cherry (knee), and starting DT Ted Washington missed the game on Sunday.

Status: Johnson and Washington were listed as out before the game, Vrabel was doubtful, while Cherry and McGinest were listed as questionable.



New England's starting LCB Ty Law missed the game on Sunday due to his ankle injury.

Status: Law was listed as questionable before the game.



New York Jets' starting CB Donnie Abraham (shoulder), starting FS Jon McGraw (dislocated right shoulder), backup CB Jamie Henderson (knee) all missed the game on Sunday.

Status: Abraham and McGraw are expected to be sidelined until November, while Henderson was listed as out prior to the game (as were the other 2, also).

Tennessee's starting RDT Albert Haynesworth aggravated his elbow injury on Sunday, but returned to action.

Status: Haynesworth's injury will classify him as questionable to play next week, no doubt.
