Players in the News (Thursday's edition)

Quarterbacks

QB Jeff Blake (Ari) is day-to-day with his bruised heel but is expected to play this weekend.

QB Michael Vick (Atl) is still on crutches and walking with a boot, but he is still on target for a return to action in either Week Six or Seven.

QB Kyle Boller (Bal) has a slight MCL sprain in his left knee.  He is expected to practice this week and play on Sunday.

QB Jake Delhomme (Car) has a bye this week.

QB Kordell Stewart (Chi) has a bye this week.

QB Kordell Stewart (Chi) suffered a neck stinger near the end of last week's game.  Chicago has a bye this week so Stewart will most likely be ready to play on Monday September 29th.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Josh Booty (Cle) was waived by the team on Wednesday.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Kelly Holcomb (Cle) admitted on Wednesday that so far this season he has ‘stunk’.  There’s not much to add after that.

QB Quincy Carter (Dal) has a bye this week.

QB Jake Plummer (Den) is still sore but the team is optimistic he'll be able to play this Monday despite his shoulder injury. He practiced Wednesday and was able to throw the short routes. Watch closely.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Jake Plummer (Den) was able to test his sore shoulder with some long passes on Thursday.  He is still sore, but (barring a setback) he will be able to play this Monday night.

QB Mark Brunell (Jac) was experiencing some back soreness but is expected to play this weekend.

QB Brian Griese (Mia) is still out with his toe injury.

QB Tom Brady (NE) is expected to play this weekend despite his elbow injury.

QB Donovan McNabb (Phi) has a bye this week.

QB Jeff Garcia (SF) suffered a mild concussion in last weekend's game but returned and finished the contest.  He is expected to practice and play as usual this week.

QB Marc Bulger (StL) will continue for at least one more week as the team's starting QB.  Kurt Warner will be the backup. Warner has been quoted though that he understands and that the team needs to pick a guy that doesn't look over his shoulder so this looks to us like a long term deal barring injury.

QB Brad Johnson (TB) will play this weekend despite his groin strain.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Brad Johnson (TB) partially participated in Wednesday’s practice, but he will still start this weekend.

QB Jim Miller (TB) was released by the team after it was determined he had an Achilles tear.

QB Steve McNair (Ten) was obviously limited last week with his knee injury and also dislocated his right ring finger.  The team believes he'll be a bit healthier this weekend.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Steve McNair (Ten) experienced a great deal of pain in his finger and stopped throwing during Wednesday’s practice.  On Thursday, he felt much better and was able to take center snaps and throw without problems.  Barring a setback, he will be able to go this weekend.  He didn’t run much though as he and the team still wants to rest his knee.

Running Backs

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Jamal Lewis (Bal) may have given LaDainian Tomlinson and the entire Chargers franchise a little extra motivation.  Lewis said the matchup between Tomlinson and Ravens LB Ray Lewis would be no contest.  Tomlinson wasn’t too thrilled with those comments.

FB Harold Morrow (Bal) will not play this weekend with his elbow injury.

RB Musa Smith (Bal) will miss another week and is close to being placed on the injured reserve list due to his knee injury.

RBs Stephen Davis and DeShaun Foster (Car) have a bye this week.

RB Priest Holmes (KC) has bruised ribs, was held out of Wednesday's practice, and is officially questionable for Sunday's game.  He likely will play this weekend. He's on the official injury report with a calf injury. Coach Dick Vermeil described his situation as "Running Back's Body" but at this point, we expect him to go. Obviously, we'll watch this closely though through the week.

WR Koren Robinson (Sea) was benched for last weekend's game after being late to a team meeting.  Bobby Engram started in his place.  Assuming his watch is correct all week, Robinson will start this weekend.

WR Joe Jurevicius (TB) will miss the next 4-6 weeks with an MCL tear after a collision with teammate Mike Alstott.  Karl Williams will now be the team's #3 WR.  The team also re-signed Charles Lee.

WR Taylor Jacobs (Was) has not played this season due to his bruised pancreas and will likely miss this weekend as well.
