Quarterbacks
Note that
all Atlanta QBs have a bye this week.
QB Michael Vick (Atl) is finally jogging and says he feels better. However, he will not return until he is 100%,
and that date has not been set.
QB Kyle Boller (Bal) suffered a sprain in his
non-throwing shoulder last Sunday. He
practiced on Wednesday and should be able to play this weekend.
QB Randy Fasani (Buf) has been signed to the team’s practice squad.
QB Chris Chandler (Chi) will again start for the injured Kordell Stewart.
QB Carson Palmer (Cin) is now the team’s #2 QB as he has passed Shane Matthews
for the role.
QB Tim Couch (Cle) lightly sprained his ankle and should be able to play
this weekend. He
will likely start only if Kelly Holcomb is not physically able.
QB Kelly Holcomb (Cle) is not 100%, but he practiced on Wednesday and
could be on the field this weekend. No
announcement has been made on which QB will start (could be a game-time
announcement), but it looks like Holcomb will if he is healthy enough.
QB Steve Beuerlein (Den) has been lost for this season after being placed
on the injured reserve list with his broken finger. The team re-signed Jarious Jackson to take
Beuerlein’s roster spot (and be the team’s #2 QB until Jake Plummer returns). Denver also worked out Jeff George, Todd
Husak, Brandon Doman, and Mike Quinn but did not offer any of them a contract.
QB Danny Kanell (Den) will be the team’s starting QB this weekend and both Jake Plummer
and Steve Beuerlein are out with injuries.
QB Jake Plummer (Den) is still out with his broken foot.
QB Joey Harrington (Det) was horrible last Sunday against Dallas, and there were rumblings that he could
be benched this weekend in favor of Mike McMahon (who wasn’t much better). However, Harrington will continue as the team’s
starter.
Note that
all Green Bay QBs have a bye this week.
QB Brett Favre (GB) has a hairline fracture his thumb (suffered in last
Sunday’s game) but the injury was downplayed by coach
Mike Sherman who said he should be able to play after the team’s bye week.
QB Mark Brunell (Jac) is still out with his elbow injury.
QB Jay Fiedler (Mia) has a sprained MCL in his left knee. His playing status will be determined on
Sunday (the Dolphins play on Monday night), however he
has told family members that he will play.
If Fiedler can’t go, look for Brian Griese to get his first start of the
season.
QB Jamie Martin (NYJ) was released by the team.
QB Chad Pennington (NYJ) will not start this weekend, but he will be the
team’s #2 QB and should see action. The team
says he will start on November 2nd.
Note that
all Oakland QBs have a bye this week.
QB Rich Gannon (Oak) has an extremely sore throwing shoulder. The team says he likely would not be able to
play if they had a game this weekend, and his status for November 2nd
is in question. If Gannon can’t go,
Marques Tuiasosopo will get the start, but it looks like if he’s healthy, that
Gannon will remain the team’s starting QB.
QB Donovan McNabb (Phi) was horrible last Sunday but will likely continue
as the team’s starting QB as long as he doesn’t suffer a setback with his bruised
thumb. He practiced on Wednesday without
a protective wrap and hopes to play without it this weekend.
QB Steve McNair (Ten) will have his day in court as his case on DUI and weapons
charges has been sent to a grand jury.
Note that
all Washington QBs have a bye this week.
QB Rob Johnson (Was) was released by the team to make room for Tim
Hasselbeck to sign on. Note that
Hasselbeck instantly becomes the team’s #2 QB.
QB Patrick Ramsey (Was) will most likely use the bye week to get over his
nagging injuries. He was able to
practice on Wednesday.

Running Backs
RB Emmitt
Smith (Ari) is still out with his broken shoulder.
Note that
all Atlanta RBs have a bye this week.
RB Jamal
Lewis (Bal) re-aggravated his injured shoulder last
Sunday and likely will not be at 100% for the remainder of the season. He will be limited in practice this week (as
he was on Wednesday) but is expected to be able to play this weekend. He’s
calling it a “hurt not an injury”.
RB Sammy
Morris (Buf) practiced on Monday and could return to action this weekend.
RB Adrian
Peterson (Chi) suffered an ankle sprain last Sunday.
RB Anthony
Thomas (Chi) missed last Sunday’s game with his injured foot and did not
practice on Wednesday, but the team hopes he will be able to take part in
Friday’s session.
RB Corey
Dillon (Cin) is once again tired of being a Bengal.
Dillon turned the spotlight on himself when he walked into the locker
room Wednesday afternoon while reporters were talking to his teammates about
the upcoming game. "I want
out," Dillon said aloud. "Trade me to Dallas." Dillon later said he was joking about Dallas -- the trading deadline was Oct. 14
-- but not about his desire for change. He has two years left on his
contract. "I'm telling you, ain't
nothing permanent, ain't nothing concrete," Dillon said. "You sign a
contract with your wife -- you can get rid of her, can't you? And that's a lifetime
contract. What I'm basically trying to say is, ain't nothing permanent, ain't
nothing sketched in stone. There's ways out of anything." During his seven-year career, Dillon has
repeatedly groused that he doesn't get the ball enough. Dillon is one of only
four players in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards in each of his first six
seasons. In other news, Dillon did not
practice on Wednesday and still isn’t 100%.
The team says they did not plan on him practicing Wednesday, but he will
probably play again this weekend.
RB William
Green (Cle) has an injured shoulder (and had his arm in a sling Monday), but he practiced
Wednesday (on a limited basis) and should be able to play this weekend. Note that James Jackson subbed for Green last
Sunday and is the team’s #2 RB.
RB Troy
Hambrick (Dal) suffered a broken finger last Sunday but is expected to play
this weekend.
Note that
all Green Bay RBs have a bye this week.
RB Ahman
Green (GB) practiced on Monday despite suffering an ankle injury last Sunday.
RB Edgerrin
James (Ind) has missed a few weeks with his
broken back, but he says he will start this weekend. To quote James: “I am playing.”
RB James Mungro (Ind) will miss this weekend’s game
after is knee surgery.
RB Dominic
Rhodes (Ind) will likely be the team’s #2 RB this weekend.
RB Ricky
Williams (Ind) will miss this weekend’s game with his injured
ankle.
FB Rob
Konrad (Mia) did not play last week due to his knee injury but should be able
to go this Monday.
RB Michael
Bennett (Min) practiced with the team on Wednesday but will likely now wait
until November 9th to return to the field. It seems the team is concerned about his
conditioning and doesn’t want to rush him back into game action.
RB Larry
Centers (NE) suffered a knee injury in week six and has been released by the
team. When he heals, Centers will likely
re-sign with the Patriots.
RB Dorsey
Levens (NYG) finally got some action last Sunday (16 carries for 64 yards) and
will likely be a part of the offense for the remainder of the season. He
replaced Tiki Barber to give Barber a breather. But Levens was effective and coach Jim Fassel allowed him to stay in the game while
Barber watched from the sidelines.
Note that
all Oakland RBs have a bye this week.
RB Jerome
Bettis (Pit) is now officially the team’s starting RB.
RB Amos
Zereoue (Pit) has lost his starting position but will be the team’s 3rd
down back.
RB Marshall
Faulk (StL) will likely practice a bit this week but shouldn’t play until the
November 2nd game as the team doesn’t want to rush him back before
he is at full strength.
RB Lamar
Gordon (StL) has a high ankle sprain and might miss this weekend’s game. He says his ankle “is really bothering (him)
right now.” For what it’s worth, there’s a good bit of talk that Gordon needs
to toughen up.
RB Arlen
Harris (StL) will be the team’s starting RB for this weekend’s game.
RB Chris
Brown (Ten) will probably miss this weekend’s game with his bad hamstring.
RB Eddie
George (Ten) had 18 carries last Sunday but was out gained by Robert Holcombe
(who had 16 carries). Holcombe plays in
3-WR sets. With the number of WRs on the
roster, the team will likely play more 3-WR sets. That means more time for Holcombe and less
for George.
Note that
all Washington RBs have a bye this week.
RB Ladell
Betts (Was) will miss 1-3 weeks with his broken forearm.
RB Trung
Canidate (Was) did not practice Wednesday but hopes to play in the November 2nd
game after missing last Sunday with his injured ankle.
RB Sultan
McCullough (Was) will get the start on November 2nd if neither
Ladell Betts nor Trung Canidate are healthy enough to
play.

Wednesday and will likely play this weekend.

miss him last Sunday.
Note that
all Green Bay WRs have a bye this week.
WR Javon
Walker (GB) suffered a shoulder injury in Tuesday’s practice but should be able
to play when the team comes off their bye.
WR D’Wayne
Bates (Min) is still bothered by his foot injury, but he practiced on Wednesday
and should be able to play this weekend.
WR Nate
Burleson (Min) should start again for the team this weekend.
WR Kelly
Campbell (Min) is bothered by an injured foot, but he was able to practice on
Wednesday and should play this weekend.
WR Donte Stallworth
(NO) did not practice on Wednesday and will likely miss this weekend’s game
with his injured quadriceps. However,
Stallworth says he expects to play.

he is not a lock to play this weekend.
Note that

little back tracking Wednesday evening after some comments were taken the wrong
way by the media. Asked Wednesday how to
limit Tomlinson, San Diego's running back, Seau told
reporters: "You give him watermelon and load him up with fried chicken and
tell him to keep eating." Seau, who is of Samoan descent, later said he
