Quarterbacks

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Kordell Stewart (Chi) may get back on the field soon but not as the team’s starting QB.  That job is Chris Chandler’s unless (until?) injury.  Stewart could see action in goal line and short-yardage situations.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Danny Kanell (Den) practiced on Wednesday and should start this weekend.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Brett Favre (GB) practiced on Thursday with a splint on his injured thumb.  He will likely wear it Sunday as well.  In related news, Favre has been hurt eight times in his career where there was doubt if he would play.  In those eight games, he has tossed 15 TDs against only 6 INTs.  Interesting.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Tony Banks (Hou) will start for the team this weekend if David Carr does not play.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB David Carr (Hou) (all but officially) will not play this weekend, but he expects to return for the November 9th game.

Running Backs

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** LB Dan Morgan (Car) says he regrets playing last Sunday as he was still disoriented and fatigued from post-concussion syndrome.  He now claims that he did not suffer another concussion in the game.  Rather, he was simply disoriented and took himself out.  Morgan adds that his “head feels back to normal.  I can definitely feel a difference.”  He has not practiced this week but hopes to start this weekend.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** LB Warrick Holdman (Chi) was able to practice again on Thursday.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** LB Charlie Clemons (Hou) did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday and will likely be a game-time decision at best.  Antwan Peek should get the start.

QB Michael Vick (Atl) is still out with his broken leg.  However, he has now set December 7th as he return date. 

Note that all Buffalo QBs have a bye this week.

QB Kordell Stewart (Chi) practiced on Wednesday and could be the team's #2 QB this weekend.

QB Brett Favre (GB) has a hairline fracture on his throwing thumb.  He took a few snaps in Wednesday's practice and will be limited the remainder of the week as well.  He will start this weekend, but his effectiveness (especially on the long ball) is a big unknown at this point.

QB Chad Pennington (NYJ) has been announced as the team's starting QB this weekend.

QB Rich Gannon (Oak) will most likely not play this weekend with his injured shoulder.  Marques Tuiasosopo has been named the team's starter for Sunday.

RB William Green (Cle) decided to spend his free time this week getting arrested for DUI and marijuana possession.  Green has pleaded innocent to the charges, and there is no word on what consequences (if any) will be forthcoming from the Browns and / or the NFL.  Note that Green was suspended twice in college for marijuana use.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB William Green (Cle) will likely enter Phase One of the NFL’s substance abuse program.  If so, Green will be evaluated and subject to random testing.  If he tests positive, he could enter Phase Two and be suspended for 4 games.  Of course there has been no official word from the league.

RB Adrian Murrell (Dal) has been re-signed by the team.  There are rumors that Murrell could see action this weekend and cut a bit into Troy Hambrick's touches.  Another possibility is that Murrell was signed as a fallback option if Richie Anderson's injury is more serious than was first thought.

RB Michael Bennett (Min) is slated to play this weekend.  According to head coach Mike Tice, Bennett will get 2-3 carries.  Given Tice's history of comments to the media, Footballguys translates that to mean Bennett will get 0-20 rushes this weekend.

RB James Fenderson (NO) will likely be out until the middle of November with his inured foot.

CB Samari Rolle (Ten) is back at practice and should play after the team's bye week.

CB Andre Woolfolk (Ten) may miss the remainder of the season after severely spraining his left ankle last Sunday.

CB Rashad Bauman (Was) did not practice Wednesday and will not go Thursday either.  He hopes to practice Friday and play this weekend.

CB Fred Smoot (Was) will likely miss this weekend with his injured chest.
