Essential News

QB Doug Johnson (Atl) will start for the team this weekend as Kurt Kittner has been terrible.

QB Michael Vick (Atl) did not practice on Thursday or Friday. He will not play this weekend.

QB Kyle Boller (Bal) is still out with his injured quadriceps. He will miss at least three more games.

QB Rex Grossman (Chi) gets closer to playing with each Chicago Bears loss. Head coach Dick Jauron has said that Grossman could play if (when) the team is eliminated from the playoffs.

QB Jake Plummer (Den) had a solid practice on Friday and will start as expected.

QB Brett Favre (GB) practiced on Thursday and Friday and will start as expected despite a banged up thumb.

QB David Carr (Hou) will be the #3 QB this weekend with his injured shoulder. Tony Banks will get the start.

QB Brian Griese (Mia) will start this weekend according to a report by Clark Spencer from the Miami Herald, but HC Dave Wannstedt has not made an official announcement. Jay Fiedler also took snaps with the first unit this week so be cautious here.

QB Rick Mirer (Oak) had surgery this week on his non-throwing pinkie finger. He practiced all week and is not even on the team's injury report. He will start this weekend.

QB Doug Flutie (SD) will continue as the team's starting QB despite a terrible performance last week.

QB Jeff Garcia (SF) practiced on Thursday and Friday, but will backup Tim Rattay this week. No word on whether Garcia will resume his starting job next week.

QB Patrick Ramsey (Was) has been playing all season with a broken bone in his foot. He did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday, but was able to do light work on Friday. He will need to show improvement in his injured foot before game-time to be the starter this week. If he cannot go, Tim Hasselbeck will make his first career start this weekend.

RB Marcel Shipp (Ari) has ruptured bursa sacs in both arms, but was able to practice with pain on Friday. He will start as usual. Emmitt Smith is very close to returning and could see limited action this week. Emmitt is a game-time decision after being upgraded from doubtful to questionable on the recent injury report.

RB Travis Henry (Buf) remains a game-time decision, but took part in practice on Friday and said his leg "felt good". He added that he is "very excited about this upcoming game." No announcement has been made on Henry's playing status, but HC Gregg Williams said he would "be shocked" if Henry does not play this weekend. Joe Burns and Sammy Morris would split carries if Travis Henry cannot play.

RB DeShaun Foster (Car) has missed practice all week. He is listed as a game-time decision, but it is looking unlikely that he will be able to play this week. Rod Smart will backup Stephen Davis if DeShaun Foster does not play this weekend.

RB Corey Dillon (Cin) will play this weekend, but he is expected to share carries with Rudi Johnson.

RB William Green (Cle) was hospitalized Thursday with a knife wound to his side. Upon further investigation, police found the knife embedded in a kitchen cabinet and 4 different bags of marijuana throughout the house. Green was also spotted drinking alcohol the night before at the Hard Rock Cafe. Both of these situations are likely to further violate the league's substance abuse policy. This could be the last we see of William Green this year. James Jackson will start in his place.

RB Aveion Cason (Dal) is slated to work as the team's 3rd down back this weekend.

RB Adrian Murrell (Dal) was released by the team on Friday in order to sign LB Jamal Brooks. He could be brought back when the team gets some of their injured linebackers back.

RB Artose Pinner (Det) practiced this week with the practice squad and should be on the active roster next week. The team hopes he'll be able to play in the December 7th game.

RB Ahman Green (GB) missed Wednesday's practice but will start as expected.

RB Stacey Mack (Hou) will not play this weekend. Tony Hollings and Jonathan Wells will back up starter Domanick Davis.

RB James Mungro (Ind) practiced on Thursday and Friday and should play this weekend.

RB Dominic Rhodes (Ind) suffered a shoulder injury in Thursday's practice and will likely miss this weekend. He was unable to practice on Friday.

RB Fred Taylor (Jac) took part in the individual drills on Thursday (without contact) and practiced for part of Friday's sesssion. He is expected to start this weekend.

FB Tony Richardson (KC) practiced on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

RB Michael Bennett (Min) says he is about 80-90 percent back in terms of knocking off the rust.

FB Fred McCrary (NE) did not practice on Wednesday and could sit this weekend.

RB Antowain Smith (NE) is expected to be used often this week against a Texan defense that has allowed a 100 yards rusher by the end of the first half in the their last three contests. With a depleted WR core, New England will attempt to win this game with a steady dose of running.

RB Lamont Jordan (NYG) practiced on Friday with a broken bone in his left hand. He is expected to play with the pain and backup Curtis Martin.

RB Justin Fargas (Oak) has been lost for the season after being placed on IR with his injured knee.

RB Charlie Garner (Oak) practiced on Friday and will play. He is expected to get about 10-15 touches backing up Tyrone Wheatley this week.

RB J.R. Redmond signed with the Raiders, but is inactive this week.

RB Jerome Bettis (Pit) did not practice on Wednesday but still should play this weekend.

RB Jerome Bettis (Pit) practiced on Friday and will start as expected.

FB Lorenzo Neal (SD) practiced on Thursday and Friday and should play this weekend.

RB Kevan Barlow (SF) is expected to play this weekend despite suffering a concussion last Sunday.

RB Garrison Hearst (SF) has been removed from the injury report and will play this weekend.

RB Maurice Morris (Sea) practiced on Thursday and should play this weekend.

RB Eddie George (Ten) has been added to the injury report as questionable with a sore calf. However, he partially participated in Friday's practice and is expected to start as usual this weekend.

RB Ladell Betts (Was) partially participated in Thursday's practice but will not play this week. Trung Canidate will start again despite his bad play most of the year. John Simon will back him up with injuries to Ladell Betts, Rock Cartwright and Chad Morton

WR Jason McAddley (Ari) is still out with his injured hamstring.

WR Brian Finneran (Atl) is wearing a splint on his injured thumb. He was limited in practice and is a game-time decision.

WR Quentin McCord (Atl) was waived by the team on Monday.

WR Marcus Robinson (Bal) practiced this week and should play this weekend.

WR Frank Sanders (Bal) practiced on Friday and will start opposite of Travis Taylor this weekend.

WR Dedric Ward (Bal) was released by the team on Tuesday.

WR Eric Moulds (Buf) practiced on Friday but will be a game-time decision. HC Gregg Williams said he would "be shocked" if Moulds doesn't play this weekend.

Kevin Dyson (Car) has been activated from the PUP list and could play this weekend.

WR David Terrell (Chi) started over Dez White last Sunday and will continue to do so.

WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Cin) practiced all week and should play this weekend.

WR Joey Galloway (Dal) did not play last Sunday due to a strained quadriceps, but he practiced on Wednesday and is expected to play this weekend.

WR Ed McCaffrey (Den) practiced on Friday, but his status for this week's game is still unknown. He will likely be a game-time decision.

WR Scotty Anderson (Det) has been lost for the season with his injured ankle.

WR David Kircus (Det) has been activated as the team is woefully low on healthy WRs. He will be Bill Schroeder's backup this weekend.

WR Charles Rogers (Det) is now not so optimistic about returning this season. It seems that team doctors have not even given Rogers a timetable to return to action. However, he has begun doing exercises to strengthen his arm and shoulder.

WR Antonio Freeman (GB) was sent home from Thursday's practice with the flu. He should be able to play this weekend.

WR JaJuan Dawson (Ind) was signed by the team on Tuesday.

WR Marvin Harrison (Ind) is expected to play this weekend, but it is unlikely that he'll have a big role. "He's not going to start and play every play, that's for sure." Dungy conceded he would be "shocked" if Harrison started, but added "I've been shocked before."

WR Brandon Stokley (Ind) was not cleared by team doctors and will sit this weekend.

WR Troy Walters (Ind) is out this weekend.

WR Kevin Johnson (Jac) practiced this week and will likely be in the starting lineup opposite Jimmy Smith. This would move Troy Edwards to the slot position.

WR Marc Boerigter (KC) practiced on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

WR Eddie Kennison (KC) did not practice on Thursday but is expected to play this weekend.

Newly sign WR Oronde Gadsden (Mia) will be active for this week and will be used in certain third down situations.

WR D'Wayne Bates (Min) will miss this weekend. Nate Burleson will get the start.

WR Troy Brown (NE) was unable to practice this week and is considered doubtful to play.

WR David Givens (NE) was unable to practice all week and looks doubtful to play this week.

WR Deion Branch (NE) was added to the updated injury report as questionable. He did not practice on Friday. He is a game-time decision.

WR J.J. Stokes (NE) was signed by the team on Tuesday. He practiced on Wednesday and seems eager for a fresh start with the Patriots.

WR Dedric Ward (NE) may start for the Patriots if Givens and Branch cannot go.

WR Joe Horn (NO) had a solid practice on Friday and will start as expected with his tender knee.

WR Donte Stallworth (NO) did not practice on Wednesday and could sit this weekend.

WR Dante Stallworth (NO) missed practice on Friday and will be a game-time decision. We believe he will not play.

WR Tim Carter (NYG) is out this weekend.

WR Ron Dixon (NYG) underwent surgery last week on his right knee and will miss the remainder of the season.

WR Ike Hilliard (NYG) practiced on Friday and is expected to play this Monday night.

WR Jonathan Carter (NYJ) has moved past Kevin Swayne and is now the team's #3 WR.

WR Kevin Lockett (NYJ) was signed last week and should be active this weekend.

WR Santana Moss (NYJ) did not practice on Tursday or Friday to rest his sore ribs. He is expected to start as usual.

WR Todd Pinkston (Phi) had a solid day of practice on Friday and will play this week.

WR Freddie Mitchell (Phi) is expected to have an increased role in the offense starting this week.

WR Plaxico Burress (Pit) practiced on Friday and will start as expected.

WR Antwaan Randle-El (Pit) did not practice on Wednesday but still should play this weekend.

WR Brandon Lloyd (SF) is slated to get increased work as the season comes to a close. The team wants to see if they can rely on him to play a big role in the 2004 season.

WR Terrell Owens (SF) did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday but will start as expected this weekend.

WR Tai Streets (SF) was unable to practice on Friday. The team is still stating that they expect him to play on Sunday.

WR Cedrick Wilson (SF) practiced on Thursday and Friday and is expected to play this week.

WR Torry Holt (StL) took it easy this week in practice, but will start as expected.

WR Keyshawn Johnson (TB) has been deactivated by the team for the rest of the season. He will not be a Buccaneer in 2004. He has joined FOX Sports and will be an in-studio analyst on FOX NFL Sunday. In related news, Johnson has a short-list of team he would like to play for next season: Dallas, Miami, New England, and the Jets.

WR Joe Jurevicius (TB) will move into Keyshawn Johnson's starting position. Charles Lee is now the #3 WR.

WR Joe Jurevicius (TB) was limited in Friday's practice. He has an extra day to get healthy and is expected to start this week after the team dropped Keyshawn Johnson.

The Buccaneers worked out recently released WR Quentin McCord on Friday.

WR Keenan McCardell (TB) missed practice on Friday to rest his sore hamstring. He is expected to start as usual.

WR Drew Bennett (Ten) ran lightly on Wednesday and is targeting his return for the December 1st game.

WR Derrick Mason (Ten) practiced on Friday and should start this weekend.

WR Marquise Walker (Ten) was released by the team on Tuesday.

TE John Jones (Bal) did not practice on Friday and is not expected tomplay this week.

TE Dustin Lyman (Chi) is still out with his injured abs.

TE Reggie Kelly (Cin) did not practice on Friday and will sit this weekend.

TE Matt Schobel (Cin) practiced on Thursday and will start as expected this weekend.

TE Bubba Franks (GB) did not practice on Wednesday but still should play this weekend.

TE Marcus Pollard (Ind) will likely miss another 2-4 weeks with his sprained knee.

TE Ernie Conwell (NO) is out for the remainder of the season with his injured ankle. Eddie "Boo" Williams is now the team's starting TE.

TE Jeremy Shockey (NYG) partially participated in Saturday's practice and is a dreaded game-time decision (and since it's a Monday night game it would probably be best to go with a different option this week at TE). However, he is almost assured of playing in next week's game.

TEs Teyo Johnson, Doug Jolley, and O.J. Santiago (Oak) are currently competing for the starting position according to head coach Bill Callahan.

TE LJ Smith (Phi) practiced on Thursday and Friday and is expected to start as usual.

TE Jay Riemersma (Pit) missed practices all week and is not expected to play this week. Jerame Tuman will start in his place.

PK Bill Gramatica (Ari) has been lost for the season after being placed on the injured reserve list with his injured back. This leaves Neil Rackers as the team's PK.

PK Jason Elam (Den) practiced all week despite a sore groin and will start as expected.
