Tidbits - Week 5

Arizona Cardinals

  • The Cardinals have lost twelve straight games to the Cowboys in Dallas going back to 1990. In that time, the Cardinals have:

    • scored only 111 total points (9.25 points per game)

    • given up 364 total points (30.33 points per game)

    • never scored more than 20 points in a game

    • scored 10 points or less in nine of the twelve games


  • WR Anquan Boldin has been thrown to 48 times in four games. He has caught 30 of those passes (62.5%).


  • In the two weeks QB Jeff Blake struggled this season he threw for only 143 passing yards and no touchdowns.


  • In the two weeks that QB Jeff Blake was on his game, he threw for 631 passing yards and 4 touchdowns.


  • In the last five meetings between the Cardinals and Cowboys, the Cardinals have:

    • had their running backs run for 379 yards on 120 carries (3.16 YPC) and have scored 3 touchdowns

Atlanta Falcons

  • The Falcons beat the Vikings 30-24 last season in Minnesota. In that game the Falcons:

    • running backs ran the ball 19 times for 51 yards and scored a rushing touchdown (Bob Christian)

    • passed the ball 28 times and completed only 11 (39.3%) for 173 passing yards and a touchdown

    • QB Michael Vick torched the Vikings with an impressive 173 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns


  • QB Doug Johnson is struggling. In his last three starts (all losses), he has:

    • completed 43 of his 78 passes (55.1%) for only 444 yards, 2 passing touchdowns against 6 interceptions


  • WR Peerless Price is almost invisible in this offense. He has caught only 15 passes for only 133 yards and no touchdowns.


  • RB Warrick Dunn has been ineffective in the running game. He has only averaged 3.3 YPC so far and hasn't scored a rushing touchdown.


  • RB T.J. Duckett has been running well and is averaging a solid 5.6 YPC in the four games. He has added 2 rushing touchdowns.




Baltimore Ravens

  • Bye Week




Buffalo Bills

  • The Bills have faced the Bengals three times over the last ten years. The Bills won all three by a combined score of 91 to 46.


  • WR Eric Moulds has faced the Bengals twice in his career. He has 15 receptions for 271 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns.


  • QB Drew Bledsoe has struggled in the last two games. He has only thrown 1 touchdown pass and has a poor 5.8 YPA.


  • The Buffalo Bills cannot run the football. The Bills are averaging only 2.3 YPC on the season.




Carolina Panthers

  • The Panthers are 7-1 in the last eight games going back to last season.


  • RB Stephen Davis has run for over 100 yards in each of his first three games with the Panthers. He is on pace for 2165 rushing yards.


  • RB DeShaun Foster is beginning to make an impact. He ran for 46 yards last week on 10 carries.


  • QB Jake Delhomme has led the team to victory in each of the first three weeks, but his passing numbers are average at best. In the last two weeks, he has:

    • thrown for 264 yards on 26 of 50 passing (52.0%) and thrown only 1 touchdown pass.


  • WR Muhsin Muhammad has been targeted 23 times in the three games but has only caught 7 passes (30.4%)


  • Muhammad caught 13 passes for 207 yards against the Saints in two games last year.


  • The Panthers' running backs carried the ball 49 times against the Saints last year for 189 rushing yards and a touchdown.




Chicago Bears

  • RBBC? I don't think so. RB Anthony Thomas has 29 carries for 178 rushing yards and a touchdown. The other backs have 8 carries for 13 yards.


  • Thomas had a 67-yard run against the Packers. The longest of his career to that point was only 46 yards.


  • Have you seen WR Marty Booker on the side of a milk carton yet? He is officially M.I.A. He only has 92 receiving yards so far on the season.


  • QB Kordell Stewart has been awful. He is on pace to throw 27 interceptions and is only averaging 4.37 YPA. Paging Mr. Grossman… Paging Mr. Grossman.




Cincinnati Bengals

  • WR Chad Johnson had 6 receptions for 123 receiving yards against the Bills last year.


  • The Bengals haven't defeated the Bills since 1988, a span of five consecutive losses.


  • QB Jon Kitna is having a productive start to his season. He has completed 63.2% of his throws, has a respectable 7.06 YPA and has thrown 6 touchdowns.




Cleveland Browns

  • The Browns have lost the last three games in Pittsburgh by a combined score of 66 to 20.


  • QB Tim Couch has gone up against the Steelers six times. In those football games, he has:

    • thrown for 1150 yards, completed 60.2% of his throws, a 6.73 YPA and tossed 7 touchdowns (against 7 interceptions)


  • In the last four football games against the Steelers, Couch has put up these numbers:

    • thrown for 635 yards (only 158.8 YPG), completed 55.4% of his throws, averaged 5.7 YPA and tossed 3 touchdowns (against 6 interceptions)


  • RB William Green only carried the ball 11 times for 26 rushing yards in the two games against the Steelers last year.


  • Green's longest run from scrimmage this season is only 15 yards.


  • WR Kevin Johnson hasn't scored a touchdown against the Steelers in the last six meetings.




Dallas Cowboys

  • The Cowboys are 12-0 at home against the Cardinals since 1990. In that stretch, they averaged 30.3 points per game against the Cardinals.


  • In three games as a Cowboy, WR Joey Galloway has only caught 8 receptions for 95 yards against the Cardinals.


  • RB Troy Hambrick is on pace for 1280 rushing yards on the season.


  • QB Quincy Carter threw 4 interceptions against the Cardinals last season in the week seven loss.

Denver Broncos

  • RB Clinton Portis and RB Mike Anderson combined for 293 rushing yards and 127 receiving yards plus 6 touchdowns last season in the two games against the Chiefs.

    • Portis had 200 rushing yards on only 36 carries and added 89 yards receiving in the two games. He scored 5 touchdowns.


    • Portis had a remarkable game against the Chiefs in week fifteen. He put up 205 total yards and scored 4 touchdowns.


    • Anderson added 93 rushing yards on 21 carries and scored a touchdown.


    • Anderson has carried the ball 76 times against the Chiefs in his career. He rushed for 403 yards with those carries.


  • WR Rod Smith has had at least 100 receiving yards in nine of his last eleven meetings against the Chiefs. In those games, he caught:

    • 68 receptions

    • 1177 receiving yards

    • Only 2 touchdown receptions


  • The Broncos have won three of the last four meetings against the Chiefs. Before that streak, the Chiefs won four in a row.


  • Over the last three football games, QB Jake Plummer has completed 70.6% of his passes (8.4 YPA) and thrown 7 touchdowns against 0 interceptions.


  • In his last two football games, WR Ashley Lelie has caught 7 passes for 184 yards (26.3 yard average) and scored 2 touchdowns.




Detroit Lions

  • QB Joey Harrington is only averaging 10 yards per completion and 5.13 yards per attempt.


  • Rookie WR Charles Rogers has been thrown to 46 times on the season. He has caught 18 of them (39.1%) and scored 3 touchdowns


  • The Lions finally had some success running the ball last week. The running backs gained 134 yards on 21 carries.

Green Bay Packers

  • RB Ahman Green is on pace for 1768 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns.


  • QB Brett Favre is on pace for his lowest YPA (6.09) in his illustrious career.


  • The Good News: Favre is on pace to throw 28 touchdown passes.


  • The Bad News: Favre is also on pace to throw 28 interceptions.


  • Throughout his career, Favre has averaged 11.53 yards per completion. This season he is averaging only 9.57 yards per completion.


  • Favre has faced the Seahawks one time over the last six seasons. He threw 4 interceptions and completed 40% of his throws during that meeting back in 1999.


  • Last season through the first four games, WR Donald Driver was on pace for 84 receptions, 1280 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns.


  • This season through the first four games, WR Donald Driver is on pace for 32 receptions, 356 receiving yards and 0 touchdowns.


Houston Texans

  • Bye Week




Indianapolis Colts

  • QB Peyton Manning has completed 60% or more of his passes in sixteen of the last eighteen games.


  • The Colts are only giving up 11.75 PPG. Last season they gave up 19.6 PPG and in 2000 they gave up 20.4 PPG.


  • WR Marvin Harrison has had five 3-touchdown games in his career.


  • Harrison has had nine 150-receiving yard games in the NFL. He has had thirty six 100-yard receiving games.


  • Rookie TE Dallas Clark has caught a pass in four straight games to start his career. He is on pace for 40 receptions on the season.




Jacksonville Jaguars

  • The Jaguars have never faced the San Diego Chargers.


  • RB Fred Taylor has only had one game with over 20 carries so far in 2003 and only two of his last nine games overall.


  • Taylor has played in twenty straight football games.


  • Rookie QB Byron Leftwich learned it is more difficult to start a game in the NFL than to finish it in mop-up duty. He had three interceptions last week.


  • WR Troy Edwards didn't have 84 yards receiving in his last 37 outings. He got that on one play this past weekend against the Texans.


  • Edwards had a career best 111 yards receiving this past weekend.




Kansas City Chiefs

  • In his last three games against the Broncos, RB Priest Holmes has:

    • Carried the ball 71 times for 395 yards. He also added 68 receiving yards on 10 receptions and scored 4 touchdowns.


  • In his last three games against the Broncos, QB Trent Green has:

    • Completed 55 of 96 passes (57.3%) for 774 passing yards and tossed 3 touchdowns. He only threw 1 interception in those games.


  • In his last six games against the Broncos, TE Tony Gonzalez has:

    • Caught 34 passes for 471 receiving yards and scored only 1 touchdown.

    • He has two 100-yard receiving games during this time.




Miami Dolphins

  • RB Ricky Williams is on pace for an NFL record 496 carries.


  • Williams once had his durability questioned. He has now started 35 consecutive games


  • WR Chris Chambers is on pace for 1387 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns. Last season he was on pace for 672 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns.




Minnesota Vikings

  • WR Randy Moss caught 9 passes for 134 receiving yards against the Falcons last season.


  • Moss has had 13 multiple touchdown games in the NFL.


  • Moss has had thirty-two 100-yard receiving games in the NFL.


  • QB Gus Frerotte is averaging 1 touchdown pass every 8 passing attempts so far this season.


  • The big offensive line is helping the team to average an impressive 4.6 YPC. Michael Bennett who?


New England Patriots

  • The Tennessee Titans beat up the Patriots 24-7 last year.


  • QB Tom Brady is averaging 1 interception every 19.3 attempts. He averaged 1 interception every 39 attempts over the prior two seasons.


  • WR Troy Brown is only averaged 8.1 yards per reception. He is on pace for only 516 receiving yards on the season.


  • RB Antowain Smith has 111 rushing yards on 27 carries in the last two games after only gaining 32 yards on 18 carries in the first two games.


  • RB Kevin Faulk only managed 12 yards rushing on 10 carries last week.




New Orleans Saints

  • The Saints have won in Carolina each of the last three seasons.


  • RB Deuce McAllister had 48 carries for 188 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns against the Panthers last season.


  • QB Aaron Brooks has faced the Panthers four times over the last two seasons. He has:

    • thrown for 914 yards, completed 72 of 148 passes (48.6%), a 6.2 YPA and has thrown for 6 touchdowns (against 4 interceptions).


  • WR Joe Horn has 37 receptions for 558 yards and 3 touchdowns against the Panthers in six games.


  • After a fast start, Horn has only 7 receptions for 50 yards in the last two games.




New York Giants

  • RB Tiki Barber is on pace for 357 carries and 1669 rushing yards but has yet to score a touchdown.


  • QB Kerry Collins is on pace to throw 32 touchdown passes and only 11 interceptions.


  • WR Amani Toomer has 1120 receiving yards in his last eleven games to go along with 9 touchdown receptions.


  • Toomer has only caught 42.4% of the passes thrown in his direction this season.


  • TE Jeremy Shockey has only caught 54.5% of the passes thrown in his direction.


New York Jets

  • Bye Week (I'm pretty sure this is the fifth bye week of the season for the Jets <grin>)




Oakland Raiders

  • WR Jerry Rice hasn't caught a touchdown pass in his last eight regular season games. That is the longest such streak since his rookie season.


  • WR Tim Brown has only 4 touchdown receptions in his last twenty regular season games.


  • Brown is only catching 48.3% of the passes thrown his way.


  • TE Doug Jolley has 12 receptions in the last two games.




Philadelphia Eagles

  • In his last five games against the Washington Redskins, QB Donovan McNabb has:

    • 268 rushing yards and 2 touchdown runs

    • 942 passing yards, 7 touchdowns and 6 interceptions

    • 93 completions on 163 attempts (57.1%) a 5.8 YPA


  • WR Todd Pinkston has only caught 11 of the 25 passes (44%) thrown his way.


  • RB Duce Staley had 218 total yards against the Redskins last season and 2 touchdowns.


  • QB McNabb has yet to throw a touchdown pass and his YPA is a brutal 4.56 on the season


  • McNabb is on pace to run for 832 yards on the season but hasn't registered a rushing touchdown yet.




Pittsburgh Steelers

  • The Steelers have won the last five games against the Browns.


  • QB Tommy Maddox has only thrown 2 touchdown passes in the last three games against 6 interceptions.


  • The Steelers are only averaging 3.1 yards per carry on the season.


  • In the last four games against the Browns, WR Hines Ward has 30 receptions for 270 yards and 1 touchdown.


  • In the last four games against the Browns, WR Plaxico Burress has 18 receptions for 245 yards and 1 touchdown.


  • In week nine against the Browns last year, RB Amos Zereoue carried the ball 29 times for 111 rushing yards plus added 62 receiving yards.


  • Ward has caught 9 passes in three of the four games this season. He is on pace for 124 receptions.


  • Ward has caught 31 of the 37 (83.8%) passes thrown his way this season.


  • Burress has only caught 22 of 43 passes (51.1%) of the passes thrown his way.


  • Burress has caught 4 or more passes in every game this year. He is on pace for 88 receptions and 1404 receiving yards.




San Diego Chargers

  • QB Drew Brees is struggling. He is on pace to throw 16 touchdown passes against 28 interceptions.


  • After a slow start, RB LaDainian Tomlinson is catching fire. He has 292 rushing yards in the last two football games plus 15 receptions.


  • Tomlinson has thirteen 100-yard rushing games in his NFL career.




San Francisco 49ers

  • Both RB Kevan Barlow and RB Garrison Hearst have 44 carries on the season. Hearst has 219 rushing yards and Barlow has 193 rushing yards.


  • QB Jeff Garcia is on pace for a career low in passing yardage, YPA, completion % and touchdown passes and a career high in interceptions.


  • WR Terrell Owens has had more sideline temper tantrums than touchdowns this season.


  • The combination of Barlow/Hearst is on pace for 352 carries and 1648 rushing yards. Oh the dreaded RBBC.




Seattle Seahawks

  • HC Mike Holmgren is 1-0 against his former team (the Packers). The Seahawks beat them 27 to 7 during the 1999 season on the road.


  • QB Matt Hasselbeck is only completing 51.9% of his throws. The good news is he has thrown 6 touchdown passes against only 1 interception.


  • RB Shaun Alexander is on pace for 16 touchdowns.


  • WR Darrell Jackson has only caught 8 of the 22 passes thrown his way (36.4%)




St. Louis Rams

  • Bye Week




Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • The Buccaneers' defense is still awesome. They are only giving up 7.33 points per game.


  • RB Michael Pittman is on pace for 827 rushing yards, 91 receptions and 5 touchdowns.


  • QB Brad Johnson continues to play well. He has 20 touchdown passes and only 3 interceptions in his last nine games.


  • WR Keyshawn Johnson has caught 17 of the 29 passes thrown his way (58.6%).


  • Johnson has faced the Colts eight times in his career. He has 34 receptions for 462 yards and 2 touchdowns.


Tennessee Titans

  • The Titans beat the Texans twice last year by a combined score of 30-13.


  • QB Steve McNair underachieved against the Texans last year. He only completed 18-43 passes (41.9%) for only 257 passing yards and 2 touchdowns.


  • McNair is on pace to throw a career best 32 touchdown passes against only 4 interceptions. He is completing a tremendous 69.4% of his passes.


  • RB Eddie George carried the ball 50 times for 188 rushing yards against the Texans last season.




Washington Redskins

  • The Redskins have lost five straight games to the Eagles.


  • QB Patrick Ramsey faced the Eagles once last season. He completed a solid 65.7% of his throws (23 of 35 passing) for 213 yards and 3 touchdown passes.


  • The Redskins rushed 43 times last season for 175 yards and 0 touchdowns against the Eagles last season.


  • WR Rod Gardner caught 7 passes for 121 receiving yards and a touchdown against the Eagles last year.


  • Gardner has caught 20 passes for 203 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns so far in 2003.


  • WR Laveranues Coles is on fire. He has caught 28 of the 41 passes thrown his way (68.3%) for 453 receiving yards.


  • After week one, RB Trung Canidate has led the team in rushing with 202 rushing yards. Ladell Betts has only 108 yards but did score 2 touchdowns.
