Jaguars DT John Henderson appears Pro Bowl-bound. He already has more tackles
after thirteen games than in either of his first two seasons. Henderson had
5-1 tackles and a sack in Sunday's 22-3 win over the Bears
Henderson's presence has made the linebackers jobs easier. Mike Peterson is
having a very big year, reminiscent of his 2002 campaign with the Colts and
rookie Daryl Smith looks to be a star in the making. Smith has been a little
banged up lately, but he contributed 5-1 tackles and his first career NFL sack
Sunday
It's official
Bears LB Lance Briggs is good. He had 14-0 tackles Sunday
and broke the 100 tackle barrier for the season. Briggs is very athletic and
fast and actually leads the NFL in solo tackles
Dwight had three more sacks in Sunday's 23-14 win over Houston. He now has
six sacks in the last two games and thirteen on the season, tying a career high.
He now leads the NFL in that category. I pity the IDP owner who did not start
him the last two weeks
It hasn't hurt Freeney that rookie DE Robert Mathis is making defenses worry
about him too. Mathis had a sack Sunday and now has 10.5 on the year and has
at least a half sack in all but five games
Cornerbacks just aren't supposed to get two sacks in one game, but that's exactly
what Texan CB rookie Dunta Robinson did Sunday. The rookie corner is proving
to be a solid pick for the team and if you must start a CB in your league, I
can certainly think of worse alternatives. Robinson added 4-0 tackles and a
forced fumble
Slowly but surely, Bills DE Chris Kelsay is showing his value, especially as
a pass rusher. He has at least half a sack in four of the team's last six games,
including one Sunday in the Bills 37-7 win over Cleveland.
Most impressively for the Bills that game was that they gave up only 17 total
yards against the Browns. At a point late in the game, Cleveland was still in
negative yardage totals. This set a franchise record and was not that far off
from the NFL record of minus seven yards
Buffalo had eight sacks, with two of them coming from veteran DT Sam Adams.
They also forced five turnovers. LB Takeo Spike forced two fumbles and added
4-1 tackles and a sack
Deion Sanders was back in action for the Baltimore Ravens Sunday in their 37-14
win over the NY football Giants. Sanders is recovering from turf toe problems
and played about thirty snaps. He made only one tackle, but he did receive a
lateral after an Ed Reed interception and helped set up a field goal near the
end of the first half
Reed's interception was his eighth of the season, setting a Raven's single
season record. He now has twenty in his short NFL career
Giants safety Brent Alexander had by far his best performance of the season
generating 11-2 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble
Falcon DT Rod Coleman did not have any sacks Sunday in Atlanta's 35-10 romp
over the Raiders Sunday. He only had one tackle. But he never seems to fail
to contribute. Coleman had a Kerry Collins pass tipped right into his hands
with the Raiders near midfield and only down seven in the second quarter. Coleman
returned the interception 39 yards for the score to out Atlanta up by 14. It
was Coleman's first career interception and first touchdown
Seattle DB Michael Boulware started his first NFL game Sunday in the Seahawks
27-23 win over the Vikings. Not coincidentally, he also had his most productive
game. He had 8-0 tackles, a sack and an interception. His interception was especially
timely, coming against a Randy Moss pass in the end zone near the end of the
game, assuring a Seattle victory
Sounds like a broken record, but Vikings DT Kevin Williams had another sack
to go with 6-0 tackles. Williams has four sacks in the last three games and
ten on the season
Patriot LB Tedy Bruschi and safety Rodney Harrison combined for 21-6 tackles
and a forced fumble in Sunday's 35-28 win over the Bengals
Starting his second game in place of the injured Zach Thomas, rookie LB Derrick
Pope put up 7-5 tackles in their loss Sunday to Denver
Steeler LB Clark Haggans will likely miss the next two games due to a groin
injury suffered in Pittsburgh's 17-6 win over the Jets Sunday. LB's James Harrison
and Alonzo Jackson will split duty in Haggans' absence
Another Steeler LB, James Farrior, is currently listed as questionable with
a shoulder injury. His presence on the field will not be easily matched by his
replacement, if he indeed does not play. Clint Kriewaldt will play if Farrior
misses the game
Kriewaldt is the Steeler special teams captain and has two starts in his six
year NFL career. Farrior insists he'll be playing this Sunday though
The San Diego Chargers defense needs a big play with the score tied at 21 near
the end of the game against Tampa Bay. Any guesses whom that big play comes
from? LB Donnie Edwards, of course. Edwards intercepted a Brian Griese pass
and returned it 30 yards for the touchdown to put the Chargers up for good and
propel them to their 7th win in a row
It was Edwards' second interception of the game and 20th of his career. It
was also his sixth touchdown. For a guy that was considered to be too slow and
too small to succeed in the NFL, he sure has prospered. He added 9-7 tackles
in the game and leads many IDP leagues in LB scoring
Buccaneer DE Dwayne White will get his first start this weekend and will start
at DE, his natural position. He's second on the team with five and a half sacks
and, although White will still play some at DT, the team believes he might do
even better at the end spot
Carolina Panther DE Julius Peppers got his team-leading 10th sack of the season
in Sunday's 20-7 win over the Rams. He also had 4-1 tackles
Panther LB Dan Morgan played Sunday after missing three games due to a series
of concussions and started right where he left off. He had 5-3 tackles, two
interceptions and a forced fumble
Cardinals DE Bertrand Berry had another sack Sunday in a 31-28 loss to the
49ers. That's eight sacks in the last six games for Berry, and twelve on the
year
The sacks also keep coming for Packers DE Kabeer Kbaja-Biamila. With a sack
in Sunday's 16-13 win over Detroit, he now has seven in his last six games and
eleven on the season
After a mid-season slump, Packer LB Nick Barnett has had two consecutive strong
games. After a ten-tackle performance against the Eagles, Barnett came back
with 6-8 tackles and a sack
Until next week
