I'll admit it up front - I have a soft spot for Green since he was my starting QB in back to back fantasy Super Bowl victories in my main money league. But, the reason I was taking him as a sleeper quarterback each year, and riding him to championships, was because of the situation he was in. That situation has not changed a bit, so there is every reason to believe Green makes a trifecta out of back to back top-10 QB finishes.

Let's start with HC Dick Vermeil, who stated that he does not change his game plan based on the score. If the pass is working, he'll keep passing. He proved that by allowing Green a 368/3 game against Cleveland in week 10 despite a blow out victory. That is the Vermeil we remember with the Greatest Show On Turf. Expect Vermeil to unleash Green at any time he feels it will work, despite one of the best running games in the NFL.

Moreover, the team has not significantly improved defensively. KC's defensive woes were exposed by the end of 2003 . Without drastic improvement, Green may be in shoot-outs all year long. Good thing his offensive line has kept him injury free for the last three years.

Folks can point to Green's lack of potent receivers, but they are the same as his 2002 and 2003 crew. Anyway, Gonzo and Priest could account for 175 completions, 2000 yards, and 10 TDs before you add in the rest of the team. The team is obviously comfortable with the crew since they did not draft or sign anyone of significance.

I don't expect a duplication of 2003 numbers. But, a third straight top-10 finish and a fourth year without missing a start is highly probable. My only regret is that Green is not the eye-popping value he was. I will have to pay his worth if I want him guiding my team to a third straight Super Bowl victory. But, at least I won't pay top-5 QB prices for a potential top-5 QB.

Trent Green has been a consistent fantasy producer since arriving in Kansas City in 2001. Last season he even broke 4,000 passing yards finishing the season with 330 completions for 4039 passing yards and 24 touchdowns. But he never seems to be able to break into the elusive tier of top fantasy quarterbacks. I think that there a number of factors that keep him out of the top 5.

Green is a pocket passer who is not a rushing threat. Last season he rushed for only 83 total yards. Compare that to the elite quarterbacks. Daunte Culpepper rushed for 422 yards. Michael Vick only played in 5 games and rushed for 255 yards.

The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver corps leaves much to be desired. Peyton Manning has Marvin Harrison. Daunte Culpepper has Randy Moss. Matt Hasselbeck has the dynamic duo of Koren Robinson and Darrell Jackson. Marc Bulger has Torry Holt. All of these top quarterbacks have receivers who are ranked in the top 15 of receivers. Trent Green has Eddie Kennison and Johnnie Morton. Neither one are projected in the top 30 of wide receivers. Both have been serviceable, but neither is an elite receiver. Now granted Trent Green has Tony Gonzalez, but the lack of a legitimate wide receiver threat I believe keeps Trent Green out of the elite quarterbacks.

The focal point of the Kansas City Chiefs offense is Priest Holmes, and rightly it should be. Holmes has outperformed all expectations on him and doesn't look like he will slow down even this year. When the focal point of an offense is the rushing attack, the passing attack however good will be secondary.

So while Trent Green deserves a place in the top 10 quarterbacks, because of the reasons I have outlined I don't see him becoming one of the elite fantasy quarterbacks.
