Offensive Upgrades

Upgrades

QB Jeff Garcia (Cle) - Despite a horrible offensive line, Garcia is putting up a great game every few weeks. His ability to run in scores helps his value a lot. The fact that he was able to rank as the 4th best QB against a tough Philadelphia unit says a lot about his forward potential.

QB Brett Favre (GB) - He completed a very efficient 23 for 29 and scored 2 TDs without an interception.

QB Byron Leftwich (Jac) - Here lately, almost every ball Leftwich throws is a super tight spiral that lands right on target. Jimmy Smith is still playing well, and Kyle Brady is healthy again. Even more important is the amazingly easy schedule remaining for Leftwich. He should shine down the stretch.

QB Jay Fiedler (Mia)- Ah, a win for the Dolphins will help Fiedler's job security. Having a viable threat in Sammy Morris doesn't hurt either. Obviously, Fiedler isn't someone to hang your fantasy hopes on, but he will likely continue to start as long as he stays upright.

QB Kerry Collins (Oak) - He finally showed up for fantasy owners last week. Of course, that was likely way too late for most teams as he's likely been dropped in the majority of leagues across the country. Still, if you need some QB help, at least the ability is still there....against poor defenses.

QB Marc Bulger (StL) - He's a bit battered right now and still throwing up quality fantasy numbers. With a week off to heal up, Bulger should keep piling up the numbers. He threw for 295 yards and a TD and also added a rushing TD yesterday.

*** Waiver wire *** - QB Billy Volek (Ten) - McNair is ailing and is likely to sit at least a few weeks. Volek will start in his place.

RB Emmitt Smith (Ari) - The old man is definitely impressing this season. He had another 100-yard game last week and still has that 4.7 speed.

RB Dorsey Levens (GB) - Levens replaced the injured Westbrook last week and put up almost seven yards per carry. Obviously, a healthy Westbrook is the primary RB in Philadelphia, but an overworked Westbrook will have trouble staying healthy. Levens should grab some looks and will be a prized commodity should Westbrook miss significant time later this season.

RB Priest Holmes (KC) - Just in case anyone wondered which RB was the King of Scoring TDs. Priest scored all 4 of his TDs in the first half.

RB Derrick Blaylock (KC) - Just in case anyone wondered if the Kansas City offense was the King of RB TDs. There is no doubt that Blaylock is the team's #2 RB as Larry Johnson remains an afterthought in this offense. Blaylock has been impressive all season when given the chance. His 4 TDs in relief (all in the second half) really is amazing.

RB Sammy Morris (Mia) - Two straight quality outings as a member of the 2004 Miami Dolphins is a no-doubt upgrade. Morris is definitely a viable starting fantasy RB right now.

RB Mewelde Moore (Min) - Moe Williams and Michael Bennett were healthy, yet they combined for only four carries last week. It looks like Moore will be the guy as long as he continues to produce. It would be a solid strategy to ride Moore as long as the Viking do.

RB Tiki Barber (NYG) - This guy is simply producing numbers by the boatloads. He's getting the vast majority of carries and hauling in receptions as well. He had 10 targets yetserday on his way to 7 catches for 102 yards and a TD. He also 70 yards on the ground.

RB Michael Pittman (TB) - He has solidified the Tampa Bay ground game. With Mike Alstott out for four weeks, Pittman will be the man for the Buccaneers.

*** Waiver wire *** - WR Bryant Johnson (Ari) - He had a whopping 13 targets this week. He likely will lose his spot in the lineup soon when Anquan Boldin returns, but could be helpful the next few weeks if you are desperate at WR.

WR Eric Moulds (Buf) - He continues to shine despite Buffalo's woes. He had 96 yards yesterday. He leads the team with 28 targets over the last three games.

WR Keary Colbert (Car) - He has emerged as the go to receiver on the Panthers by consistently outplaying veteran Muhsin Muhammad. He caught 7 of his 11 targets this week.

WR Dennis Northcutt (Cle) - He had 10 targets yesterday and is the featured guy with Andre Davis hobbled with injuries.

*** Waiver wire *** - WR Quincy Morgan (Dal) - He will immediately take over for the injured Terry Glenn.

WR Roy Williams (Det) - Roy is still not 100%, but still a big improvement over the rest of the WRs on the Lion's roster. He scored again this week.

WR Donald Driver (GB) - He has an impressive 28 targets in the last 3 games. Javon Walker gets more press, but Driver is having a great season too.

WR Javon Walker (GB) - He added another 129 yards and a score on 8 catches. He gets deep better than anyone in the game.

WR Brandon Stokley (Ind) - He continues to put up numbers. He posted 112 yards on 7 catches again last week. It is obvious that any of the Indianapolis WRs (Harrison, Wayne, Stokley) could have a big week on any Sunday because Peyton will target the open receiver. The days of 40% of the passes aimed at Marvin Harrison are over.

WR Jimmy Smith (Jac) - Jimmy is the recipient of the improved play of Byron Leftwich this season. He finished with 113 yards and scored a TD on Sunday.

WR Chris Chambers (Mia) - He had no where to go but up. He converted a long run after the catch and ended up with 128 yards and a TD on 3 catches. The Dolphins are still in turmoil, but Chambers should post better numbers going forward.

WR Joe Horn (NO) - He remains options 1,2 and 3 in the passing game. He added another 123 yards on 9 catches this past week. He has 30 targets over the last 3 games.

WR Justin McCareins (NYJ) - He was featured a lot in the final drives by the Jets. He seems to finally be part of the game plan.

WR Jerry Porter (Oak) - He is finally being featured more in the offense. He responded with 113 yards and a score. He has been targeted 25 times over the last 3 weeks.

*** Waiver wire *** - WR Todd Pinkston (Phi) - Finally a WR other than Owens had a good game in Philadelphia. As teams look to contain Owens, Pinkston could have a few more games like he had this weekend.

*** Waiver wire *** - WR Keenan McCardell (SD) - He instantly became the #1 WR receiver on the Chargers despite knowing only a fraction of the plays. He finished his San Diego debut with 65 yards.

WR Darrell Jackson (Sea) - He has a whopping 33 targets over the last 3 games. And he is likely to get a lot more soon as Koren Robinson will soon be forced to sit for 4 weeks.

*** Waiver wire *** - TE Aaron Shea (Cle) - The WRs are all banged up which should generate more looks to the tight end.

TE Jason Witten (Dal) - Jason Witten has had 24 targets over the last week. He had his best game yet on Sunday catching 8 for 112 yards and a TD. With Glenn out, look for Witten to remain redhot.

*** Waiver wire *** - TE Stephen Alexander (Det) - With injuries limiting WR options for the Lions, Stephen Alexander is inheriting a bigger role in the passing game. He caught 5 passes for 52 yards yesterday.

*** Waiver wire *** - TE Kyle Brady (Jac) - Kyle Brady is finally healthy and has replaced an injured George Wrighster in the lineup. He scored a TD this week and looks like he should a bigger part of the Jacksonville passing game going forward.

TE Randy McMichael (Mia) - When your QB is running for his life because of horrible line play, your TE becomes very valuable as a check down. McMichael continues to play well despite the team's overall lack of success. He had 78 yards and scored a TD this week.

*** Waiver wire *** - TE Ben Troupe (Ten) - Injuries thrust Ben into the lineup, but great play will likely keep him there. He caught 6 passes for 57 yards yesterday.

*** Waiver wire *** - PK Josh Scobee (Jac) - This rookie is performing like a veteran. He made a clutch 53 yard game field goal to win the game this week. He had 4 FGs for the day and should see a lot of action with the way the Jaguars are now moving the ball.

Def Baltimore - They had 4 interception, 4 sacks, 1 fumble recovery and held the Bills to just 270 total yards and 6 points.

Def Buffalo - They stopped the Ravens offense cold allowing just 160 total yards.

Downgrades

QB Kyle Boller (Bal) - There are four ways to score points in this wonderful game of football. For the Ravens, they are in this order: 1) On the ground, 2) While on defense, 3) By returning a kick, and finally 4) On the arm of Kyle Boller.

QB Jake Delhomme (Car) - The Chargers are a surprising team, but they have not been strong against the pass....until last week. Delhomme made San Diego look stellar as he totaled a mere 155 passing yards, 0 TDs, and an INT. With Steve Smith, DeShaun Foster, and Stephen Davis all out, the Panthers offense is worse that Miami's.

QB Jonathan Quinn (Chi) - He just lost his job to Craig Krenzel. Enough said.

QB Matt Hasselbeck (Sea) - The four INTs were absolutely horrible. Going into the 2004 season, Hasselbeck was looked by many as a Top 5 QB. He has fallen woefully short.

QB Steve McNair (Ten) - Even warriors know when they need to take a rest. When McNair says "this is not going to heal in one or two weeks if I continue to go out there and play", then you know he's going to take some time off.

RB Troy Hambrick (Ari) - 7 carries for 16 yards while Emmitt busts for 100 yards. There is no controversy in Arizona.

RB Musa Smith (Bal) - Jamal Lewis' suspension gave Chester Taylor and Smith the opportunity to show their wares. Taylor averaged over 4 ypc while Smith averaged under 2 ypc. Good luck next season Musa.

RB Travis Henry (Buf) - The Bills offense is horrible, and Henry is being outproduced by McGahee. That is not a good combination.

RB DeShaun Foster (Car)- The team announced on Monday that Foster will need surgery and will be placed on the Injured Reserve list. He will miss the remainder of the season.

RB Dominic Rhodes (Ind) - Indianapolis ran the ball 18 times against the Jaguars. Edgerrin James was given all 18 carries. Rhodes is still worth having in case James goes down, but with a healthy James, Rhodes has almost no value.

RB Larry Johnson (KC) - My goodness. When your team scores 8 rushing TDs and you don't get on the field, the world is not your oyster.

RB Brock Forsey (Mia) - If you still have this guy, it's safe to unload him. Sammy Morris is the unquestioned starter, and Travis Minor is the back-up.

RB Aaron Stecker (NO) - Although Stecker did have a carry last week, he's not going to see more than minimum action with a healthy Deuce McAllister around.

RB Mike Alstott (TB) - He is out for at least four weeks with a sprained MCL.

WR Peerless Price (Atl) - He had just 2 catches for 21 yards. He may be the WR #1 on the Falcons, but he isn't worth a spot in your lineup each week.

WR Randy Hymes (Bal) - Travis Taylor is healthy and starting again. Hymes managed just 1 catch for 3 yards.

WR Muhsin Muhammad (Car) - Keary Colbert is getting more targets and doing more with the passes once they are thrown to him.

WR Terry Glenn (Dal) - He is out 2-4 weeks.

WR Robert Ferguson (GB) - Injuries have made him the odd man out in Green Bay. The targets continue to go through Javon Walker and Donald Driver.

WR Reggie Wayne (Ind) - Bad game plus pushing your star QB on the sidelines because he calls you out for not moving closer to hear what he has to say can't be good for your value.

WR Donte Stallworth (NO) - His big games seem a thing of the past, He had just 15 yards on 1 catch on Sunday.

WR Santana Moss (NYJ) - He is not the same player with his lingering hamstring problems. He finished with just 12 yards on 2 catches.

WR Jerry Rice (Sea) - He is done. Although the Seahawks need some help, I am not sure Rice has anything left in the tank.

WR Koren Robinson (Sea) - He is about to be suspended for 4 games for violating the leagues substance abuse policy.

WR Torry Holt (StL) - Although yesterday's game was likely an aberration, he should always managed more than 4 yards.

WR Drew Bennett (Ten) - He played through his injury, but the team used Mason and Troupe through the air. Bennett's value seems to have peaked a few weeks ago.

TE Boo Williams (NO) - He had just 1 catch for 8 yards.

TE Erron Kinney (Ten) - Kinney can't seem to get healthy. The fact that Ben Troupe just had a good game also lowers Kinney's value going forward.

PK Jay Feeley (Atl) - Your offense has to move the ball to get chances. jay Feeley is not getting those chances.

Def Atlanta - This unit may have entered as the best defense against the run before the game, but they are not that now. They gave up 271 rushing yards and a whopping 8 rushing TDs yesterday. Although most offenses don't have offensive lineman as talented as the Chiefs', expect all teams to analyze the plays that worked against the Falcons and use them going forward.

Def Cleveland - They gave up 367 yards through the air. Enough said.

Def Dallas - Brett Favre made this unit look like high schoolers. Green Bay managed 480 yards of offense against this team.

Def Jacksonville - Admittedly Peyton Manning shreds everyone, but the Jaguars managed just 1 sack, no interceptions and allowed 359 yards in the air.

Def New Orleans - No sacks while allowing 350 yards to Kerry Collins. Enough said.
