SATURDAY UPDATES
Quarterbacks
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** QB Jeff George (FA) may be contacted by the
flailing Bears.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** QB Craig Krenzel (Chi) could miss up to a
month with his sprained ankle.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** QB Carson Palmer and his sore back are feeling
better. He's expected to start. He'll still be a game time decision
though as the team will see how he feels Sunday in pre game warm-ups.
"It's loosened up. The spasm is starting to go down," Palmer told
Cincinnati Enquirer staffer Mark Curnutte after practice. "Another day
and by tomorrow it will be fine. I don't know what it was."
Running Backs
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB William Green (Cle) is expected to start
this weekend.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Lee Suggs (Cle) hobbled off the practice
field Friday with turf toe after a third straight day of not
practicing. He's listed as questionable for Sunday's game in
Cincinnati, but it appears he'll be idle. At best, he'll play
sparingly. "Everyday it gets better," HC Butch Davis said. "Everyday
he's able to put more weight on it, jog, and do those kinds of things.
Clearly, it'll be a game-time decision." The soft-spoken Suggs was
even quieter than usual Friday. "It's not just that it's Cincinnati,
it's that I'm missing another game," Suggs said. "It's the joint,"' he
said. "I can't go up on my toes. I can't push off." From the
"missing another game" comment, it appears that Suggs does not expect
to play this weekend.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Najeh Davenport (GB) has declared himself
ready to play on Monday. If Ahman Green can not play, Davenport will
likely be the team's starting RB and is eager to accept that role
saying, "How many carries do I want? Maybe 25-30. How many would I
be good for? 25-30. How many will I get? That's not up to me."
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Ahman Green (GB) is still listed as
day-to-day and will be a game-time decision. If he does play, he will
wear a flak jacket to protect his ribs. HC Mike Sherman said that
there is no way to definitively test Green's ribs outside of game
action. "We certainly can't replicate the hit that he took," Sherman
said. "We don't want to do that. I don't think you can do that exactly
but you can tell pretty much by how he's functioning on a play-to-play
basis. I think there's always that opportunity that if he takes a
direct shot, it could be tough on him, but he's a pretty tough guy, he
can handle quite a few things. I think the only thing we really can
test is his ability to torque his body, twist and turn as a runner,
fall on it, go through the blast drill, get banged on it, roll around
on the ground, fall down and get up - those type of normal activities.
But we can't replicate the unique hit right on the target."
The head coach said that he knows how much Green wants to be in the
game, but that the back knows his limitations and what he will have to
do if he is to take the field. "He's not going to do anything that
would jeopardize the team in relationship to his availability. Knowing
how last week obviously we had no idea that was going to happen on the
first play of the game and how we were handcuffed with all the other
injuries, so he's very aware that if he suits up he's going to play."
If Green isn't able to go, Sherman stated that it was likely that
Davenport would get the starting nod.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Walter Williams (GB) will not play this weekend.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Onterrio Smith (Min) will likely see more
carries than Michael Bennett this week according to a Mike Tice radio
interview. Moe Williams will handle his usual third-down,
short-yardage and goal-line role.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Chris Brown (Ten) is still a game time
decision but he's looking more likely to play. "It feels a lot better
now," Brown said. "I am looking forward to getting back out there and
helping the team win."
Wide Receivers
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** WR Robert Ferguson (GB) has been added to the
team's injury report with an injured groin, but he is expected to play
this weekend.
Tight Ends
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** TE David Martin (GB) will not play this weekend.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** TE Todd Heap (Bal) is still a game time
decision for Sunday but it's looking less likely that he'll see
action. Said Heap, "Next week is more realistic, if it keeps getting
better the way it has been. This is the first time I've been out
running routes. It's exciting to get out of the training room and out
there with the team." He could very well see some playing time this
week but it's a risk to start him since it's a 4:15 pm kickoff.
Kickers
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** John Kasay (Car) will be a game time decision.
It's looking like Chandler will handle the kicking duties again but
the team will make a decision Sunday.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** PK John Hall (Was) is good to go after sitting
out five games with a groin injury. "It feels great," Hall said. "I
don't feel anything, so I'm 100 percent. They wouldn't let me come
back if I wasn't." Ola Kimrin, who was signed when Hall was injured,
was waived Friday.
Offensive Linemen
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** C Jeff Saturday (Ind) is expected to sit this
weekend with a strained calf that was injured in Thursday's practice.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** C Matt Birk (Min) will not play this weekend
and will miss at least four games after sports hernia surgery.
Linebackers
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** LB Torrance Marshall (GB) has been lost for
the season after being placed on the injured reserve list.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** LB Nick Rogers (GB) has been re-signed by the team.
Defensive Backs
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** S Jason Simmons (Hou) will not play this weekend.
Other
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** HC Andy Reid (Phi) is two TDs away from
fulfilling a preseason promise that most humans do not want to see.
Before the season, Reid made a promise to receiver Terrell Owens, who
wears practice tights over his well-sculpted body. Reid said that if
Owens scored 15 touchdowns, he'd wear the receiver's practice tights
over his not-so-well-sculpted body for everyone to see. Owens has
scored 13 touchdowns. One more and he sets the team record. Two more
and he places his coach in a tight situation. "Put it in the book,"
Owens said. "I think it'll be a treat for everyone else, but we'll
have to see how Andy holds up his end of the bet."
ALL OF THE NEWS
Quarterbacks
QB Jake Delhomme (Car) rested his injured thumb on Wednesday, but he
is expected to start as usual this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Jake Delhomme (Car) did not practice on
Thursday but did practice on Friday. He is expected to start this
weekend.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** QB Jeff George (FA) may be contacted by the
flailing Bears.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Chad Hutchinson (Chi) may soon start for the
team. There has been no word on the move, but Craig Krenzel has a
sprained ankle and Jonathan Quinn was horrible on Thanksgiving day.
Said coach Lovie Smith, "We have an idea right now what direction
we're going to go. By Monday we'd like to have him place. And kind of
go from there."
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** QB Craig Krenzel (Chi) could miss up to a
month with his sprained ankle.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Carson Palmer (Cin) has back spasms on
Thursday and did not practice on Friday. He will be a Game Time
Decision. If he can't go, Jon Kitna would start.
QB Jeff Garcia (Cle) did not practice on Wednesday. He is listed as
questionable with a sprained rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder,
but he could miss as many as 3-4 weeks. Kelly Holcomb will start for
the team Sunday according to coach Butch Davis.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Jeff Garcia (Cle) did not practice all week
and will not play this weekend.
QB Kelly Holcomb (Cle) will start for the team Sunday according to
coach Butch Davis. He'll likely have a pretty short leash though. His
lack of mobility had coaches reportedly considering rookie Luke McCown
as the starter for this week.
QB Drew Henson (Dal) has not been officially named the starter, but it
looks like he will start. "It looks like it," Parcells said when asked
Wednesday if Henson would start. "He took most of the snaps [Tuesday].
But I've got to see practice today. But I'm anticipating that (Henson)
will play." Parcells seems to be having a tough time naming Henson as
the starting QB but that's what we expect to happen Thursday.
QB Vinny Testaverde (Dal) practiced on Wednesday, but his status for
Thursday's game is not fully known due to his injured shoulder.
However, it looks like he is a long shot to start and may not even be
available to play at all. Drew Henson is expected to start.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Joey Harrington will remain the starting QB
for now. Coach Steve Mariucci spoke about pulling Harrington Thursday
and inserting Mike McMahon: "It wasn't a typical hook," Mariucci said
Friday. "Joey was playing OK, but we felt the game had gotten away
from us. The timing was good for Mike. He's been able to play better
in practice the last couple of weeks, and we wanted to get him into a
game to get a better look at him."
QB Byron Leftwich (Jac) practiced fully on Wednesday and reported no
problems. HC Jack Del Rio was pleased. "He was able to work in full
pads and moved around pretty well," Del Rio said. "He threw the ball
accurately and made good decisions. He basically picked up where he
left off a little bit, so we're glad to see that." Leftwich added,
"I wasn't perfect out there today, but I wasn't off. I actually did
better than I thought after being out for a couple of weeks." Barring
a setback, he is expected start this weekend while wearing a brace on
his injured knee.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Byron Leftwich (Jac) practiced fully on
Thursday and Friday and is expected to start this weekend.
QB A.J. Feeley (Mia) did not practice on Wednesday, but he fully
expects to play this weekend despite his injured hip.
QB Jay Fiedler (Mia) has been lost for the remainder of the season
after being placed on the injured reserve list with his injured neck.
QB Jason Garrett (Mia) has been signed by the team.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Gus Frerotte (Min) missed practice on Friday
due to illness, but he is expected to be available to play this
weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Tom Brady (NE) practiced all week and will
start as usual this weekend.
QB Chad Pennington (NYJ) will not play this weekend due to his injured
shoulder. However, he was able to throw 50 passes in a controlled
workout and felt no pain. "I didn't throw hard," Pennington said. "I
just tried to go through the motion and see what my range of motion
was like and my mobility and I felt decent." He expects to return in
2-4 weeks.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Chad Pennington (NYJ) practiced Thursday in a
full-squad session. If he does not experience any setbacks, there is
a chance he could return as early as December 5th.
QB Matt Hasselbeck (Sea) did not practice on Wednesday but hopes to be
able to participate by Thursday or Friday. His status for this
weekend is not fully known due to the charley horse in his thigh.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Matt Hasselbeck (Sea) practiced on Thursday
and Friday and is expected to start this weekend. "I don't want to
minimize what's happened to him, but he had a good day today," head
coach Mike Holmgren said Friday, adding that Hasselbeck would continue
treatments leading up to Sunday's game.
Although not 100 percent, Hasselbeck was eager to return to the field.
"It feels good," he said. "Good enough."
Running Backs
RB Damien Anderson (Ari) has been re-signed by the team.
RB Troy Hambrick (Ari) has been lost for the remainder of the season
after being placed on the injured reserve list with his injured foot.
RB Josh Scobey (Ari) is now the team's backup RB behind Emmitt Smith.
RB Emmitt Smith (Ari) did not practice on Wednesday, and his status
for this weekend is not fully known due to his injured ankle.
However, it would be surprising to see Smith sit out Sunday's game.
If he practices on Friday, he will play on Sunday.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Emmitt Smith (Ari) did not practice on
Thursday, but he did take part in Friday's session. Barring a
setback, he will start this weekend.
RB Justin Griffith (Atl) did not practice on Wednesday, and his status
for this weekend is not fully known due to his injured knee.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Justin Griffith (Atl) did not practice all
week and is not expected to play this weekend.
RB Jamal Lewis (Bal) is currently in a walking boot and will not play
this weekend due to his injured ankle. According to HC Brian Billick,

optimistic that he'll be able to go next week."
RB Musa Smith (Bal) has been lost for the season after being placed on
the injured reserve list with his injured leg.
RB Chester Taylor (Bal) will start for the team this weekend. Harold

Philadelphia. His return flight was cancelled due to weather and Green
was unable to get on another flight until Wednesday afternoon.

this weekend.
RB Lee Suggs (Cle) did not practice fully on Wednesday, and his status
for this weekend is not fully known due to his injured toe.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Lee Suggs (Cle) did not practice fully any
day this week and will be a game-time decision this weekend. If he

*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Lee Suggs (Cle) hobbled off the practice

practicing. He's listed as questionable for Sunday's game in
Cincinnati, but it appears he'll be idle. At best, he'll play
sparingly. "Everyday it gets better," HC Butch Davis said. "Everyday

even quieter than usual Friday. "It's not just that it's Cincinnati,
it's that I'm missing another game," Suggs said. "It's the joint,"' he
said. "I can't go up on my toes. I can't push off." From the
"missing another game" comment, it appears that Suggs does not expect
to play this weekend.

expected to play Thursday due to his concussion.
RB Najeh Davenport (GB) did not practice on Wednesday, but he is
expected to play this weekend despite his injured hamstring.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Najeh Davenport (GB) practiced on Thursday
and Friday. He is improving but is still listed as day-to-day.
Barring a setback, he is expected to play.
RB Tony Fisher (GB) has a neck stinger. However, he is not on the
injury report and practiced fully on Wednesday. He will play this
weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Tony Fisher (GB) told his mom that he did not
suffer a neck stinger. Since you never lie to your mom (and since he
never appeared on the injury report), we believe him. He is currently
the healthiest RB on the roster.
RB Ahman Green (GB) did not practice on Wednesday, and his status for
this weekend is not fully known due to his injured ribs. Even if he
does start, he's a risky play as one hard tackle could end his day
early if he aggravated his ribs.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Ahman Green (GB) did not practice Thursday or
Friday, but he hopes to be able to get some work in on Saturday. His
status will be determined by the amount of pain he can tolerate in his
injured ribs.
I don't think you can do that exactly

fall on it, go through the blast drill, get banged on it, roll around
on the ground, fall down and get up - those type of normal activities.

The head coach said that he knows how much Green wants to be in the
game, but that the back knows his limitations and what he will have to

injuries, so he's very aware that if he suits up he's going to play."
If Green isn't able to go, Sherman stated that it was likely that
Davenport would get the starting nod.
RB James Jackson (GB) has been signed by the team. With the amazing
rash of injuries at RB, Jackson could be forced into action Monday
night.
FB Nick Luchey (GB) did not practice on Wednesday, and his status for
this weekend is not fully known due to his injured shoulder.

play this weekend despite his injured knee.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Derrick Blaylock (KC) practiced all week and
is again expected to start for the team this weekend.
RB Priest Holmes (KC) did not practice on Wednesday and is not

hopeful that Holmes can return for the December 5th game.

and will not play this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Rob Konrad (Mia) practiced all week and is
expected to play this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Travis Minor (Mia) practiced all week and is
expected to start this weekend in place of the injured Sammy Morris.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Sammy Morris (Mia) did not practice all week
and is not expected to play this weekend.
RB Ricky Williams (Mia) will reportedly begin serving a 4-game
suspension to end the 2004 season. He then would be reinstated to the
league under his contract with the Dolphins.
RB Mewelde Moore (Min) practiced on Wednesday and is expected to play
this weekend despite his injured ankle.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Mewelde Moore (Min) practiced all week and is
expected to be available to play this weekend. That said, he is
behind Onterrio Smith, Michael Bennett, and Moe Williams on the depth
chart and will likely be inactive.

carries than Michael Bennett this week according to a Mike Tice radio
interview. Moe Williams will handle his usual third-down,
short-yardage and goal-line role.

expected to play this weekend despite his injured knee.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Curtis Martin (NYJ) practiced on Thursday and
Friday and will start this weekend.
RB Tyrone Wheatley (Oak) did not practice on Wednesday, but he hopes

Thursday but did practice on Friday. He is expected to play this
weekend.
RB Reno Mahe (Phi) did not practice on Wednesday and is not expected
to play this weekend due to his injured ankle.
RB Jerome Bettis (Pit) did not practice on Wednesday, but he is
expected to play this weekend despite his injured knee.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Jerome Bettis (Pit) practiced on Thursday and
Friday and is expected to play this weekend. However, Duce Staley is
expected to return as the team's starter while Bettis will get touches
as the backup RB. Bettis summed up the situation best saying, "this
is Duce's job."
RB Dante Brown (Pit) has been released by the team. This is good sign
that Duce Staley is ready to return to action.
RB Verron Haynes (Pit) practiced on Wednesday and is expected to play
this weekend despite his injured knee.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Verron Haynes (Pit) practiced all week and is
expected to play this weekend.
RB Duce Staley (Pit) practiced on Wednesday and has improved according
to HC Bill Cowher. Barring a setback, Staley is expected to play this
weekend, but he will share carries with Jerome Bettis.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Duce Staley (Pit) practiced all week and is
expected to play (and maybe even start) this weekend.
RB Jesse Chatman (SD) did not practice on Wednesday, but he is
expected to play this weekend despite his injured toe.

but is still expected to play this weekend.
FB Lorenzo Neal (SD) did not practice on Wednesday, but he is expected
to play this weekend despite his injured toe.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** FB Lorenzo Neal (SD) practiced on Thursday and
Friday and will play this weekend.
RB LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) took his regular Wednesday off to rest,
but he will start as usual this weekend. He carried the ball 37 times
Sunday and his groin appears to be much better.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) practiced on
Thursday and Friday and will play this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Maurice Hicks (SF) will see more time in the
game according to coach Dennis Erickson. He split time with Kevan
Barlow working with the first team in practice the last two days.
"We're going to play Maurice earlier than we did last week. He'll get
in and play," coach Dennis Erickson said. "It's not going to be a
platoon thing. It's going to be more of a feeling thing. ... We need
to see (Hicks) a little bit earlier because he does bring some spark
to us offensively, there's no question about it. He gives you a
different look."
RB Chris Brown (Ten) did not practice fully on Wednesday, and his
status for this weekend is not fully known due to his injured toe.
His is still far from 100%.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Chris Brown (Ten) did not practice on
Thursday but did practice on Friday (but was very limited). He will
be a game time decision to play this weekend. Even if he does play, he
will likely still be limited. Coach Jeff Fisher offered very little
information as usual, ''If Chris is healthy and can play and is
playing well we will go with Chris,'' Fisher said. ''I would expect in
the next couple of weeks if Chris isn't able to come back then both of
them will get their share of carries.''
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Chris Brown (Ten) is still a game time
decision but he's looking more likely to play. "It feels a lot better
now," Brown said. "I am looking forward to getting back out there and
helping the team win."
Wide Receivers

this weekend.
WR Andre King (Cle) did not practice fully on Wednesday, and his

*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Andre King (Cle) practiced on Thursday and
Friday and is expected to play this weekend.
WR Keyshawn Johnson (Dal) practiced on Wednesday and is expected to
play Thursday despite his injured knee.
WR Az-Zahir Hakim (Det) did not practice on Wednesday, and his status
for Thursday's game is not fully known due to his injured hip. The
last word we have is that it's not looking too good for him.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** WR Robert Ferguson (GB) has been added to the
team's injury report with an injured groin, but he is expected to play
this weekend.
WR Troy Walters (Ind) practiced on Wednesday, but his status for
Thursday's game is not fully known due to his injured arm.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Marty Booker (Mia) practiced all week and is
expected to play this weekend.
WR Randy Moss (Min) is listed on the injury report as doubtful.
However, he practiced on Wednesday and (barring a setback) is expected
to be on the field for about 25 plays this weekend. "You put Randy
going down the field, it's just going to open up so many more things,"
said TE Jermaine Wiggins. "We're just going to tell him to give us
what he can give us. I think he realizes that ... he doesn't have to
worry about carrying the load on his shoulders."
Moss owners have been down this road two times already this season as
they weigh out whether he deserves a start at less than full health.
And both times Moss came up very small. The huge words in the first
paragraph are "barring a setback". We think he'll be much more
effective than he was the last two times he tried to play with the
injury (which isn't saying much) but we think he's a risky play until
we see more of him in practice.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Randy Moss (Min) practiced on Thursday and
Friday and will play this weekend. Earlier in the week, HC Mike Tice
said Moss would have a limit of 25 plays. On Friday, Tice backed off
that saying that there will be no artificial play count. That either
means Moss has improved a good deal or Tice is simply posturing.
Tice does sound optimistic though: "The only thing that's holding him
back is endurance in his legs -- and not necessarily (from) the
injury," Tice said. "He feels like he has training camp legs now; he
hasn't done anything in five weeks.
"He worked extremely hard Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Now, he's going to stretch and get himself feeling as good as he can
feel by Sunday."
WR Joe Horn (NO) practiced on Wednesday and is expected to play this
weekend despite his injured elbow.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Joe Horn (NO) has been able to practice
without difficulty the past three days with his sore elbow. He not
included on Friday's updated Injury Report and he will be in the
starting lineup against the Falcons on Sunday.
WR Jerricho Cotchery (NYJ) did not practice on Wednesday, and his
status for this weekend is not fully known due to his injured
hamstring.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Jerricho Cotchery (NYJ) did not practice all

Thursday and is not expected to play this weekend.
WR Plaxico Burress (Pit) will not play this weekend due to his injured
hamstring, but he hopes to be able to go in week 13.
WR Chris Doering (Pit) has been signed by the team.
WR Antwaan Randle-El (Pit) will start for the team this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Hines Ward (Pit) will be leaned on a little
more with Plaxico Burress out. "I have to raise my game," Ward said
Wednesday. "Hopefully, [offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt] will put
me in some great opportunities to make some plays."
When asked about the possibility of more double teams, he replied,
"I've been seeing it," Ward said. "Some games they're picking and
choosing which guy to take out of that particular play: `It's second
down, so we're going to play Cover 2 to Hines' side. It's first down,
we're going to play Cover 2 to Plax's side.'
WR Tim Dwight (SD) did not practice on Wednesday, but he is expected
to play this weekend despite his injured toe.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Tim Dwight (SD) did not practice all week but
is still expected to play this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Bobby Engram (Sea) practiced on Thursday and
is expected to play this weekend.
WR Darrell Jackson (Sea) did not practice on Wednesday, but he is
expected to play this weekend despite his injured ankle.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Darrell Jackson (Sea) did not practice on
Thursday but is expected to play this weekend.
WR Jerry Rice (Sea) is expected to start for the team in place of the
suspended Koren Robinson.
WR Koren Robinson (Sea) has lost his appeal with the league and will
miss the next four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse
policy.
WR Torry Holt (StL) did not practice on Wednesday, and his status for

team president John Collins stated that "Butch is the coach for the
rest of the season. Going forward, we're interested in building a
more substantive football operations, and we're open (as Butch and

team win."
