have another 100+ yard outing by half time.

decision.  "I really don't know," says Favre.  "I don't guess it's
much different from last year at this time.  I just don't know.  I
don't know how I will know.  I guess in some ways, that's a good
thing.  In other ways, that's a bad thing.  You almost want an answer,
but then again, you almost don't.  I still feel like I can play at a
high level, but I don't have anything left to prove."  We expect Favre
to return next season.

QB Ben Roethlisberger (Pit) did not practice on Wednesday but is
expected to play this weekend despite his injured quadriceps. He's
listed as probable. Roethlisberger plans to practice Thursday and
seemed surprised when asked if he would be ready Sunday.

"Yeah, of course," Roethlisberger said. "Yes, I will play Sunday -- as
long as coach [Bill] Cowher lets me." Roethlisberger is listed as
probable.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Ben Roethlisberger (Pit) practiced on
Thursday and is expected to start this weekend. "I'm fine,"
Roethlisberger said Thursday. "It's not a problem."

*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Ben Roethlisberger (Pit) practiced on Friday
and will start this weekend.

*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Philip Rivers (SD) will not be traded in the
upcoming off season according to team GM A.J. Smith.  "Those rumors
are false," Smith said.  "Normally we don't discuss our football
business, but when it becomes obvious that something is as absurd as
that, I'll respond to it."

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Brandon Doman (SF) has been signed by the
team from their practice squad.

QB Tim Rattay (SF) did not practice on Wednesday and is expected to
miss two weeks with a torn fascia muscle in his right foot.  Ken
Dorsey is expected to start for the team.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Tim Rattay (SF) did not practice on
Thursday and will not play this weekend.  He is expected to sit week
15 as well.

QB Marc Bulger (StL) did not practice on Wednesday and is not expected
to play this weekend due to his injured AC joint in his throwing
shoulder.  Chris Chandler is expected to start for the team. He's
listed as doubtful.

treatment for his injured sternum but will be a game-time decision.
"He is better," Fisher said after Thursday's practice. "He didn't do
much. He got his treatment inside. It's really no different than it
was last week from the standpoint of if he can get on the practice
field that would be good. As was the case, it will probably be a
game-time decision Monday."

Asked if the additional 36 hours of treatment gained by the Monday
night kickoff could be helpful, Fishers said: "You know, everyday
counts with him. He is better this week than he was last week."

*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Steve McNair (Ten) did not practice on Friday
and will be a game-time decision. Billy Volek again took all the
practice reps with the first team.



Running Backs

RB Emmitt Smith (Ari) did not practice on Wednesday and is not
expected to play this weekend due to his injured toe. He's listed as
doubtful.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Emmitt Smith (Ari) did not practice on
Thursday but did some individual work on the sidelines.  He has been
upgraded to questionable for this weekend so he is improving although
he doesn't sound overly optimistic. "They just told me they were
moving me up to questionable, but it ain't that much different to me,"
Smith said on Thursday. "The bottom line is what the word is on
Sunday. Doubtful and questionable are for the people playing fantasy
football and who are making the bets."

"I was able to run a little bit on Monday, came out and tried to do a
little bit more yesterday, and I did a little bit more today than I
did yesterday," Smith said. "So there is improvement, but I still have
a ways to go."

Head coach Dennis Green said Smith took part in the team's walkthrough
and a portion of practice. "He's making some progress," Green said.
"So we'll see if there's any swelling that kicks in or what it looks
like tomorrow."

*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Emmitt Smith (Ari) practiced on Friday and
has been upgraded to probable for this weekend.  Barring a setback, he
is expected to play this weekend. For what it's worth, Arizona
Republic staffer Kent Somers asked after Thursday's upgrade if Smith
would start himself if he had a fantasy team? "I'd wait," he said,
laughing.

RB Jamal Lewis (Bal) did not practice on Wednesday and is currently
listed as questionable on the team's injury report due to his injured
ankle.  However, the team does not expect Lewis to be ready until week
15.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Jamal Lewis (Bal) is still very limited and
is not expected to play this weekend. Although the team listed him
still at questionable on Thursday's report and is holding out hope he
might be able to go. Said coach Brian Billick, "So far, so good. We'll
see."

*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Jamal Lewis (Bal) was able to work on a
limited basis again Friday according to ESPN's John Clayton. Even
though he's yet to get in a full workout this week, Clayton says Lewis
could play a limited role against the Giants this weekend. Chester
Taylor is still slated to line up as the starter Sunday and at this
point, Lewis' potential role is still not clear. Stay tuned on this
one.

FB Alan Ricard (Bal) practiced on Wednesday and is expected to play
this weekend despite his injured knee.

injured toe.  He partially participated in Thursday's practice and

RB Tatum Bell (Den) will continue to be given a small role in the
team's offense.  "What we'll get a chance to do is take a little
pressure off of Reuben (Droughns)," said HC Mike Shanahan.  "We still
want him to get that 20-25 carries or somewhere in that area, and if
you can have a guy that can go in and carry the ball anywhere from
5-10 times, you feel pretty good.  Note that Droughns had 14 carries
in week 13 while Bell logged 7 rushes.

RB Reuben Droughns (Den) practiced on Wednesday and is expected to
play this weekend despite his injured neck and thigh. He's listed as
probable.

RB Priest Holmes (KC) is out with his injured knee.  He may soon hit
the injured reserve list.  Head coach Dick Vermeil said Wednesday
we'll likely have more info Thursday. "It's all been evaluated,"
Vermeil said. "I think we'll know something [Thursday]."

"I don't want Priest Holmes to feel pressure, because the most
important thing is that he heals properly so he can come back and be
100 percent next year," Vermeil said. "If it means sitting out (the
season) and that's the best thing to do, that's exactly what we'll
do."

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Priest Holmes (KC) has in fact been placed
on the injured reserve list and will not play again this season.  HC
Dick Vermeil says he expects Holmes to be back at 100% "within a month
or two months at the most."

*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Priest Holmes (KC) says he is "definitely
100%" planning to play in 2005.  "In terms of next year, I'm excited
because of the fact that it gives me an opportunity to heal up and
start preparing for the 2005 season," said Holmes on Friday.

"This last year, they couldn't wait to get Garrison Hearst out of here
because they wanted me to play, and now they're trying to push me out
of here," said Barlow, referring to the speculation.

"I'm not a guy who wants to get traded. I'm not a guy who wants to get
cut or released. I want to stay here and hopefully start winning
again. It's been a tough year, and every team goes through this
cycle."

RB Marshall Faulk (StL) practiced on Wednesday and is expected to play
this weekend despite his injured knee. He's listed as probable.

and is expected to be available to play this weekend.  However, if
Steven Jackson is able to play, Faulk may remain on the sidelines.

number of snaps in practice in case Marshall Faulk and Steven Jackson

require knee surgery after the season ends to repair a torn meniscus.
Until then, he will continue to play with the injury. "I get paid,
I've got to play. That's how I am," said Johnson. "I'll find a way to
get on the field. ... I can be effective without catching a lot of
balls. If I stand out there, other teams have to account for me."

Head coach Bill Parcells, who also had Johnson earlier in his career,
is just trying to make sure the receiver is okay. "He'll probably have
to have a scope before the season is over. I just have to try to
manage him," Parcells said. "I don't want to wear him out. But on
Wednesdays and Thursdays lately, he doesn't look too good. I'm just
kind of looking at him. What do you want to do here? He says, 'No, I'm
fine. Don't worry.' He always sort of reassures me that way."

WR Marvin Harrison (Ind) has signed a new deal with team. As initially
reported by ESPN.com insider John Clayton, the Colts achieved their
second contract milestone of the season by reaching agreement on a
seven-year, $67 million extension with Harrison.

WR Jimmy Smith (Jac) did not practice on Wednesday but is expected to
play this weekend despite his injured hand.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Jimmy Smith (Jac) practiced on Thursday and
is expected to play this weekend. "Just a bruised hand but enough for
us to list him," head coach Jack Del Rio said. "We expect him to play
Sunday. It's something that may well heal with some rest."

"When you expend that kind of energy, both physical and mental, you're
going to come out with bumps and bruises," Del Rio said. "After a game

approach as head coach Mike Tice said he wants to use Moss on fewer
than 50 plays on Sunday. He has not suffered any setbacks, but the
team is looking to get more out of him on possibly fewer plays.

"It'll be hard to do with him, but I talked to him about it for two
days, and hopefully we can come up with some type of plan to keep his
plays under 50, just so he's got more juice when we call upon him,"
Tice said. Tice said Wednesday that Moss was "90-something percent"
healthy.

*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Randy Moss (Min) rested again on Friday but
is still expected to play this weekend.

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Donte' Stallworth (NO) is playing with a
hand injury. His left little finger is swollen to twice its normal
size, the result of ligament damage in the joint. His right thumb is
also ballooned out of proportion. But Stallworth is being quiet about
it. "I don't talk about it," Stallworth said. "People think you're
