Players in the News (Saturday Edition)

Bye Week Notice: Remember that Cleveland, New Orleans, St. Louis, and Tampa Bay players are all on byes this week.

SATURDAY UPDATES

Quarterbacks

*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** QB Steve McNair (Ten) isn't looking good for
Sunday. Nashville Tennessean beat man Jim Wyatt framed it this morning:
"Steve McNair did not take part in yesterday's practice and is not
expected to play tomorrow against the Bengals." He'll be a game time
decision.

Running Backs *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Brad Hoover (Car) will carry the load but coach John Fox will work other backs into the mix. "We definitely have to take the load off of him," Fox said of Hoover. "He can't carry it every play, just like (injured running backs) DeShaun [Foster] and Stephen [Davis] couldn't carry it every play if they were healthy. You've got to spread it around because those guys take a pounding in there. We've got Joey Harris and now we signed Brandon Bennett. Those are guys who are going to lighten the load on Brad, but he will still have that role (as featured back)." *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Ahman Green (GB) is seeing fewer snaps that he did last season. This year, Green has played 65.3% of the offensive snaps which is down from the 71.2% he saw last season. *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Sammy Morris (Mia) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend. *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Tyrone Wheatley (Oak) is looking better. Head coach Norv Turner said Friday that he expects Wheatley to be fine tomorrow. "Getting Wheatley back, if he can play enough to contribute and do what he did in the Tampa game and give us that physical, pounding inside run, that's a bonus for us," the coach said. *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Chris Brown (Ten) said he expects to play tomorrow. "I'll be all right," he told Tennessean sportswriter Jim Wyatt. "It feels good actually."
Wide Receivers *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** WR Terrance Copper (Dal) has been signed by the team from their practice squad. *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** WR Patrick Crayton (Dal) has been signed by the team from their practice squad. *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** WR Terry Glenn (Dal) has been lost for the remainder of the season after being placed on the injured reserve list with his injured foot. "Obviously Terry Glenn's injury -- we're going to miss him," Vinny Testaverde said. "But at the same time, we have to move on. The next guy is going to step up and whoever that is going to be, we'll go with. That's how we operate here. Dan Campbell went down a few weeks ago, our tight end. The next guy stepped in and we've still been able to do a good job of moving the football." *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** WR Roy Williams (Det) could sit this weekend in an attempt to get his injured ankle healed up. There are conflicting reports as some people are saying he will not play and others are saying he'll get about 20 snaps. In either scenario, it looks like Williams will be limited at best. If you have another option, you should probably take it. If you are stuck with Williams, hope he can grab a quick TD like he did last week. "I'm going with an open mind," Williams said. "Even if I don't play, we've got guys that can step up." *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** WR Randy Moss (Min) will play but many are not overly excited. Pro Football Weekly tacked a similar warning on their Friday night assessment, advising readers, "Although he won't be back to full strength for another couple of weeks, the receiver is expected to play much more than just the two snaps he saw last weekend."
Tight Ends *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** TE Todd Heap (Bal) was downgraded from questionable to doubtful. Asked if Heap was going to be a Dreaded Game-Time decision, head coach Brian Billick said, "Sure. I like that."
Place Kickers & Special Teamers *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** KR Wes Welker (Mia) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend.
Offensive Linemen *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** T Vernon Carey (Mia) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend.
Defensive Linemen *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** DE Jason Taylor (Mia) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend.
Linebackers *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** LB Morlon Greenwood (Mia) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend. *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** LB Junior Seau (Mia) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend.
Defensive Backs *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** S Antuan Edwards (Mia) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend. *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** CB Sam Madison (Mia) practiced on Friday and hopes to play this weekend. *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** CB Jimmy Wyrick (Mia) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend.
ALL OF THE NEWS Quarterbacks QB J.P. Losman (Buf) practiced on Wednesday but will almost certainly not play this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB J.P. Losman (Buf) will not play this weekend. QB Craig Krenzel (Chi) has been named the team's starting QB. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Vinny Testaverde (Dal) will continue as the team's starting QB as long as the Cowboys are still entertaining playoff hopes. If the team is eliminated from contention, there is a possibility that Drew Henson could get the nod. QB Brett Favre (GB) rested his injured throwing hand but is expected to start as usual this weekend. It was also revealed this week that Favre's wife has breast cancer. The good news is that she is expected to have a full recovery. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Brett Favre (GB) rested his sore and swollen hand again on Thursday and did not practice. He will work some on Friday and fully expects to start this weekend. "They put some tape on it today and he was going to try. He threw a little bit and was thinking about taking some snaps. But I think it's still too tender," offensive coordinator Tom Rossley said. Rossley said the Packers are concerned that taking snaps would aggravate the injury, which could prevent Favre from playing. Favre hasn't missed a start in more than 11 years. "Well, the whole top here is swollen and black and blue. The tendons or the bones or whatever are damaged on top of the hand," Rossley said. "When he bends it back and takes the snap, that's what he's worried about." Rossley said it's imperative, however, that Favre practice soon because he needs to get ready for the heavy blitzing the Washington Redskins are expected to employ Sunday. "Obviously we'd like him taking the reps and getting the feel of some of the blitzes that they do. Because the biggest thing is getting in there and reacting to the blitz and the pressure," Rossley said. "So, he did it all from the sideline and watched it and worked hard from that standpoint, but there's nothing like doing it. So, hopefully we'll do a little bit (Friday)." *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Brett Favre (GB) practiced fully on Friday. His hand gave him no problems, and he will start this weekend. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Jay Fiedler (Mia) practiced on Thursday and will start this weekend. QB Tommy Maddox (Pit) has begun throwing but is still out with his injured elbow. QB Tim Rattay (SF) didn't participate in throwing drills Wednesday while he rested his sore forearm. "I'll be able to warm it up (in Chicago)," Rattay said. "Hopefully I can get it under control and not have it lingering all season." On his morning radio show, general manager Terry Donahue intimated that Rattay might not be able to play Sunday, but both head coach Dennis Erickson and Rattay claimed he'll be ready to go. "I'm just spending too much time in the training room," Rattay said. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Tim Rattay (SF) did not practice again on Thursday and now looks like a game-time decision for this weekend's game. If Rattay can not play, Ken Dorsey will get the start. "It bothered him today," Erickson said. "We just have to wait and see how it is. It's a day-by-day evaluation. If he can play, he'll play. If not, then we go with [Dorsey]." *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Tim Rattay (SF) did not practice on Friday. He hopes to be able to throw some on Saturday, but it is not looking promising. If the 49ers played today, Rattay would not be able to play. However, his availability will be based solely upon his health as HC Dennis Erickson says Rattay can play without practicing. "In my experience with Tim over the two years, he's gone in, played, and played very well without getting turns," Erickson said. "He knows what we're doing, he studies it, and he's got great feel for the game. A lot of guys can't do that, but I really believe he can." QB Matt Hasselbeck (Sea) rested his injured heel on Wednesday but should start as usual this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Matt Hasselbeck (Sea) practiced on Thursday and will start this weekend. QB Brian Griese (TB) will continue as the team's starting QB even when Chris Simms is completely healthy. "There will be no debate if (Griese) keeps playing the way he is playing," said HC Jon Gruden. "We love (Simms). We think he is going to be an outstanding pro. But if you continue to throw for 70, 72, 74 percent and make great decisions and make clutch throws in key situations.good for Tampa Bay Buccaneers football.that's what I say. Good for Brian Griese. If he keeps going like he's going, we might have to get a lifetime contract going here." QB Steve McNair (Ten) did not practice on Wednesday. According to the Associated Press, McNair missed practice Wednesday not because of his bruised chest, but because of a death in the family. "We will see how he is [Thursday] when he comes in," head coach Jeff Fisher said. "He was a little better [Tuesday] when he came in for treatment, but still quite sore." McNair admitted on Sunday that he likely needs to take some time off to allow himself to heal so he's not as sure of a bet to play this weekend. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** QB Steve McNair (Ten) did not practice on Thursday. Instead, he exercised and stretched with the trainers. According to HC Jeff Fisher, McNair might pick up a football on Friday and "soft-toss a little bit, but it is unlikely he will do anything organized with the team." *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** QB Steve McNair (Ten) did not practice on Friday and still remains a game-time decision for this weekend. Asked specifically about McNair's status, coach Jeff Fisher replied, "He is a little better today, but obviously he didn't practice. We will try to get him loose before the game and see how he is. That is going to be the case with Chris Brown too. Chris is a little better, but was still in no position to run today. ..." The coach added: "We had hoped to have [McNair] soft-toss and had hoped to get [Brown] out (on the field). It just didn't work out, they are still quite sore." *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** QB Steve McNair (Ten) isn't looking good for Sunday. Nashville Tennessean beat man Jim Wyatt framed it this morning: "Steve McNair did not take part in yesterday's practice and is not expected to play tomorrow against the Bengals." He'll be a game time decision.
Running Backs RB Josh Scobey (Ari) is still out with his injured knee. RB Emmitt Smith (Ari) is a mere 129 yards shy of reaching the amazing career total of 18,000 rushing yards. FB Ovie Mughelli (Bal) did not practice on Wednesday and could sit this weekend with his injured hamstring. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** FB Ovie Mughelli (Bal) did not practice on Thursday and could sit this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** FB Ovie Mughelli (Bal) did not practice on Friday and will sit this weekend. RB Willis McGahee (Buf) says he will start for the team this weekend. However, HC Mike Mularkey says both McGahee and Travis Henry have been named starters. That sounds like.well.a bunch of malarkey. It looks like McGahee will get the nod as he has looked better than Henry lately. If McGahee takes off this weekend, he could lock up the job the rest of the way. RB Travis Henry (Buf) is still "officially" a starter according to coach Mike Mularkey but it seems pretty clear his value is sliding. "Would you be happy?" Henry said. "However they want to word it, word it. ... It is what it is. Coach feels like this is the best thing for our football team, so I have to live with it." RB Brandon Bennett (Car) has been signed by the team. RB Stephen Davis (Car) is out with his injured knee. RB DeShaun Foster (Car) has been lost for the season after being placed on the injured reserve list with his injured collarbone. FB Brad Hoover (Car) will get the start at RB this weekend for the Panthers. *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Brad Hoover (Car) will carry the load but coach John Fox will work other backs into the mix. Those are guys who are going to lighten the load on Brad, but he will still have that role (as featured back)." FB Jason McKie (Chi) is out with his injured knee. RB Chris Perry (Cin) did not practice on Wednesday and could sit this weekend with his injured abdomen. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Chris Perry (Cin) did not practice on Thursday and could sit this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Chris Perry (Cin) did not practice all week and should sit this weekend. RB Julius Jones (Dal) is still out with his injured shoulder. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB ReShard Lee (Dal) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend. RB Tatum Bell (Den) did not practice on Wednesday and should sit this weekend. Bell pulled a hamstring on kick coverage early in Monday night's loss at Cincinnati. Bell is officially listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Falcons. "With a hamstring, you never know," head coach Mike Shanahan said. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Tatum Bell (Den) did not practice on Thursday and will likely sit this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Tatum Bell (Den) did not practice on Friday and should sit this weekend. "It does not look good," head coach Mike Shanahan said. "Unless there's a miracle in the next 48 hours, it looks like he'll be inactive." RB Quentin Griffin (Den) has been lost for the season with a torn ACL. RB Garrison Hearst (Den) should be the team's backup RB this weekend behind Reuben Droughns. RB Cecil Sapp (Den) has been signed by the team from their practice squad. FB Cory Schlesinger (Det) practiced on Wednesday and could play this weekend despite his injured hamstring. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** FB Cory Schlesinger (Det) was limited in Thursday's practice and could play this weekend. RB Ahman Green (GB) rested his Achilles on Wednesday but is expected to start as usual this weekend. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Ahman Green (GB) did not practice on Thursday as he rested his Achilles. He will work some on Friday and expects to start this weekend. This is the same schedule he practiced last week and we all know that turned out pretty well. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Ahman Green (GB) practiced on Friday and will start this weekend. *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Ahman Green (GB) is seeing fewer snaps that he did last season. This year, Green has played 65.3% of the offensive snaps which is down from the 71.2% he saw last season. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Domanick Davis (Hou) says he is "97 percent" healthy and is "ready to roll" this weekend. RB Fred Taylor (Jac) did not practice on Wednesday, but the team hopes he'll be able to play this weekend despite his injured quadriceps. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Fred Taylor (Jac) practiced on Thursday and should play this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Fred Taylor (Jac) practiced on Friday and has been upgraded to probable on the team's injury report. He is expected to play. FB Omar Easy (KC) did not practice on Wednesday and could sit this weekend with his injured hamstring. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** FB Omar Easy (KC) did not practice on Thursday and should sit this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** FB Omar Easy (KC) did not practice on Friday and will sit this weekend. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Priest Holmes (KC) practiced on Thursday and will start this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Priest Holmes (KC) practiced on Friday and will start this weekend. RB Sammy Morris (Mia) did not practice on Wednesday, but the team hopes he'll be able to play this weekend despite his injured wrist. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Sammy Morris (Mia) practiced on Thursday with a cast and should play this weekend. *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Sammy Morris (Mia) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Michael Bennett (Min) practiced on Thursday and should be available to play this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Michael Bennett (Min) practiced on Friday and will play this weekend. RB Onterrio Smith (Min) will miss his fourth and final game this weekend due to NFL suspension. RB Moe Williams (Min) did not practice on Wednesday but is expected to play this weekend despite his injured quadriceps. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Moe Williams (Min) practiced on Thursday and should be available to play this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Moe Williams (Min) practiced on Friday and will play this weekend. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Cedric Cobbs (NE) has practiced this week and could come off the team's PUP list. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Corey Dillon (NE) was added to the official injury report on Thursday as probable with an unspecified thigh injury. The official daily practice info released by the league office indicates the veteran halfback was held out of "full-team drills" during Thursday's session. You'll remember of course that Dillon had one of his best games of the year against Seattle when he was listed as questionable and missed practice most of the week. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Corey Dillon (NE) partially participated in Friday's practice and has been downgraded to questionable on the team's injury report. Player news is almost nonexistent out of New England, but it would not be a surprise to see Dillon starting this weekend. FB Patrick Pass (NE) did not practice on Wednesday and could sit this weekend with his injured thigh. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** FB Patrick Pass (NE) did not practice on Thursday and could sit this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** FB Patrick Pass (NE) partially participated in Friday's practice and could sit this weekend. RB Justin Fargas (Oak) did not practice on Wednesday and could sit this weekend. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Justin Fargas (Oak) practiced on Thursday but could still sit this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Justin Fargas (Oak) practiced on Friday and has been named a game-time decision. RB Tyrone Wheatley (Oak) did not practice on Wednesday and should sit this weekend with his injured shoulder. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Tyrone Wheatley (Oak) practiced on Thursday. Watch his status here as there's a chance he could be ready this week. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Tyrone Wheatley (Oak) practiced on Friday and now should be available to play this weekend. However, he will not have a large role in the offense. RB Dorsey Levens (Phi) will start for the team while Westbrook is out. Reno Mahe will also get some carries. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** FB Josh Parry (Phi) practiced on Thursday and should play this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** FB Josh Parry (Phi) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend. RB Brian Westbrook (Phi) did not practice on Wednesday and could miss up to two games with his broken rib. According to doctors, the injury is "a non-displaced fracture so it's lined up and so small, it's a crack really. It did not show up on X-ray. It only shows up on certain cuts of the CT scan." Coach Andy Reid sounded optimistic: "He'll be fine as time goes on and hopefully he can make it this week," Reid said. "If he can't, then he'll be back the following week." Eagles head trainer Rick Burkholder said the rib injury didn't show up on the first X-ray, but more tests revealed a small crack of the first rib. The normal recovery time for that kind of injury is four to six weeks, but Westbrook won't necessarily be out that long, Burkholder said. "He's got to be able to function," Burkholder said. "He has a high tolerance for pain. He plays running back in the National Football League. But he has to be able to function. He has to be able to get comfortable enough to get out and practice and then the coaches need to make a decision whether or not he can function." *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Brian Westbrook (Phi) did not practice again on Thursday. His status for this weekend is still very much in doubt. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Brian Westbrook (Phi) did not practice all week. If by some chance he is on the field this weekend, he will be very limited at best. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Verron Haynes (Pit) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Duce Staley (Pit) practiced on Friday and should start this weekend. RB Jesse Chatman (SD) did not practice on Wednesday but is expected to play this weekend despite his injured toe. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Jesse Chatman (SD) did not practice on Thursday, but the team hopes he will be able to go tomorrow. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Jesse Chatman (SD) did not practice all week and now could sit this weekend. RB LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) took his normal day off on Wednesday. He will play this weekend, but his groin is limiting him in every game lately. The team hopes he'll be able to make it to their week ten bye and get some quality rest. He'll likely miss practice Thursday and be back Friday. "If he misses practice, he's not full speed in terms of his efficiency, but he knows what he's doing," head coach Marty Schottenheimer said. "He knows how to take care of himself. It's not really been a major issue." *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) was limited in Thursday's practice, but he is expected to start this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) practiced on Friday and will start this weekend. RB Shaun Alexander (Sea) is expected to see more carries. HC Mike Holmgren is concerned that QB Matt Hasselbeck has been overwhelmed by too many formations and personnel groupings. The solution will be a simplified offense with more running plays. Holmgren says he will "force-feed it if we have to" for Alexander. RB Earnest Graham (TB) has been signed by the team from their practice squad. RB Chris Brown (Ten) did not practice on Wednesday, but the team hopes he'll be able to play this weekend despite his injured toe. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Chris Brown (Ten) did not practice again on Thursday and remains in the protective walking boot to keep pressure off his toe. His status for this weekend remains iffy. "Chris' swelling was better today," Fisher explained. "The soreness was a little better and the swelling was better. We're hoping to take him completely out of the boot and try to run him around a bit [Friday]." Whether Brown practices before Sunday remains to be seen, but that wouldn't stop Fisher from playing the second-year back. "You would like for him to practice, but if he is able to run around full speed and do the things, and he is paying attention to everything and you can get him warmed up through the pre-game warm ups then he should be OK," Fisher said. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Chris Brown (Ten) is no longer wearing the protective boot, but he did not practice Friday. There is still a chance that he will play this weekend. However, if he does play he will likely be limited. Coach Jeff Fisher threw in this info when asked about quarterback Steve McNair: "We will try to get [McNair] loose before the game and see how he is. That is going to be the case with Chris Brown too. Chris is a little better, but was still in no position to run today. ..." The coach added: "We had hoped to have [McNair] soft-toss and had hoped to get [Brown] out (on the field). It just didn't work out, they are still quite sore." *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Chris Brown (Ten) said he expects to play tomorrow. "I'll be all right," he told Tennessean sportswriter Jim Wyatt. "It feels good actually."
Wide Receivers WR Anquan Boldin (Ari) went through a full workout in pads Wednesday and has no doubt he'll be able to play at Buffalo against the Bills this weekend. "For the past couple of weeks, my goal has been to get back on the field without any setbacks -- any swelling or any pain," he said. "I think I've reached that goal right now." *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Anquan Boldin (Ari) practiced again on Thursday and should play this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Anquan Boldin (Ari) practiced all week and will play this weekend. Although it's expected that he'll be eased back into the lineup. He said on NFL Radio he expects to be in during three wide receiver sets and to see about 20-25 plays from him. WR Devard Darling (Bal) practiced on Wednesday and could play this weekend despite his injured heel. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Devard Darling (Bal) practiced on Thursday and could play this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Devard Darling (Bal) will not play this weekend or any other weekend as he has been placed on the injured reserve list. WR Drew Haddad (Buf) practiced on Wednesday and could play this weekend despite his injured hamstring. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Drew Haddad (Buf) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Micah Ross (Car) has been signed by the team. WR Steve Smith (Car) has been lost for the season after being placed on the injured reserve list with his broken ankle. WR Chad Johnson (Cin) did not practice on Wednesday but is expected to play this weekend despite his injured knee. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Chad Johnson (Cin) practiced on Thursday and will start this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Chad Johnson (Cin) practiced on Friday and will start this weekend. WR Peter Warrick (Cin) did not practice on Wednesday, but the team hopes he'll be able to play this weekend despite his injured shin. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Peter Warrick (Cin) did not practice on Thursday but could still play this weekend. "Peter had a slight fracture to the small bone of his leg," head coach Marvin Lewis said on Wednesday, finally revealing the extent of Warrick's injury suffered in a Sept. 26 loss to Baltimore. "It had caused him a lot of discomfort," added Lewis, who had previously said Warrick was suffering from a shin injury. "He's dealt with a lot of swelling in there. That was the biggest issue he was dealing with. The good thing is that it's allowed the recovery from his (right) knee surgery to be great." *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Peter Warrick (Cin) did not practice all week but could still see some snaps this weekend. WR Kelley Washington (Cin) did not practice on Wednesday, but the team hopes he'll be able to play this weekend despite his injured ankle. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Kelley Washington (Cin) did not practice on Thursday but could still play this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Kelley Washington (Cin) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend. *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** WR Terrance Copper (Dal) has been signed by the team from their practice squad. *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** WR Patrick Crayton (Dal) has been signed by the team from their practice squad. WR Terry Glenn (Dal) is out with his injured foot. The next guy stepped in and we've still been able to do a good job of moving the football." WR Quincy Morgan (Dal) did not practice on Wednesday, but the team hopes he'll be able to play this weekend despite his injured hamstring. However, being so new to the team, it will be tough for Morgan to get on the field without a good deal of practice time. "I'm not counting him out of the game right now, so it's probably gonna be way down until the end of the week before I know exactly what we're gonna do," coach Bill Parcells said. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Quincy Morgan (Dal) did not practice on Thursday. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Quincy Morgan (Dal) did not practice all week and remains a game-time decision but coach Bill Parcells doesn't sound optimistic. "I am going to make all those decisions [Saturday]," Parcells said when asked if Morgan would play. "But I don't think he probably will." *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Darius Watts (Den) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend. WR Az-Zahir Hakim (Det) did not practice on Wednesday and could sit this weekend with his injured ankle. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Az-Zahir Hakim (Det) partially participated in Thursday's practice and could play this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Az-Zahir Hakim (Det) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend. WR Roy Williams (Det) did not complete practice on Wednesday, but the team hopes he'll be able to play this weekend despite his injured ankle. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Roy Williams (Det) did not practice again on Thursday but could play this weekend. He missed practice last week as well and caught a TD on Sunday so don't count the guy out. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Roy Williams (Det) did not practice again on Friday, but his ankle feels about the same as it did this time last week. He is a game-time decision. But considering he played last week, he should also play this weekend. *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** WR Roy Williams (Det) could sit this weekend in an attempt to get his injured ankle healed up. "Even if I don't play, we've got guys that can step up." *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Donald Driver (GB) did not practice on Friday, but he is expected to play as usual this weekend. WR Corey Bradford (Hou) did not practice on Wednesday and could sit this weekend with his injured groin. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Corey Bradford (Hou) practiced on Thursday and could play this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Corey Bradford (Hou) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Marvin Harrison (Ind) practiced on Thursday and will start this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Marvin Harrison (Ind) practiced on Friday and will start this weekend. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Brandon Stokley (Ind) practiced on Friday and should play this weekend. WR Troy Walters (Ind) is out with his fractured arm. WR Randy Moss (Min) did not practice on Wednesday, but the team believes he'll be able to play this weekend despite his injured hamstring. "Hopefully, he'll progress more this week, and we'll be able to use him in an active role," HC Mike Tice said. "I don't anticipate he'll be at speed enough to play his normal role, which is every play of the game and every situation." "I think he's going to be ready," quarterback Daunte Culpepper said. "I think he will be just by talking with him and being around him. ... He wants to be on the field. It hurt him really bad not to be out there." *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Randy Moss (Min) practiced almost the entire session on Thursday and will most likely play this weekend. However, he may be limited to only goal line and third down situations. "Randy looked very good in the things that he approached and the things that he did today," coach Mike Tice said. "His approach is much more focused and (he'll) definitely suit up this week and not just to keep the string going." *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Randy Moss (Min) practiced on Friday and has been upgraded to probable on the injury report. He will almost certainly play. It was his first complete practice in almost two weeks. "That's big," head coach Mike Tice said Friday. "We're pretty excited." Moss, who strained his right hamstring in a win at New Orleans on Oct. 17, made a token start last week against Tennessee but played just two snaps as a decoy. He is expected to play a larger role against the Giants on Sunday, but according to the AP, "won't be at full strength for at least two more weeks." *** SATURDAY UPDATE *** WR Randy Moss (Min) will play but many are not overly excited. He has not missed a game since his rookie season, but his status for this weekend is very iffy right now. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Amani Toomer (NYG) has improved, but he was limited in Friday's practice. He is a game-time decision but will likely be at less that full speed if he plays. As is often the case, the coach is not as optimistic as the player: "He's not able to flat-out turn around and sprint, but it's pretty good progress," head coach Tom Coughlin said. "He does have good strength. So it's day-to-day." Toomer is more optimistic. "I plan on playing. I plan on doing my thing," Toomer said. "I'll do what I can do. It felt really good. I didn't have any pain or anything whatsoever. Hopefully, when I warm up on Sunday I won't feel anything. I never thought I wasn't going to play." Other The Green Bay Packers at Washington Redskins game this weekend has far greater implications than any contest on the schedule. Over the past 72 years, Washington has forecasted the Presidential election with amazing accuracy. Over that span, if the Redskins won their last contest prior to the election, the incumbent party has also won. If the Redskins lost or tied that game, the incumbent party has lost. That is 18 consecutive Presidential contests. So Bush fans should cheer for the Redskins, and Kerry fans should cheer for the Packers.the race will be over on Sunday. NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper will in fact remain with ESPN. It was reported weeks ago that the two sides would part ways, but now Kiper is expected to sign a new contract with the network that made him famous. *** THURSDAY UPDATE *** The NFL hopes to select a site by May of 2005 for a potential franchise in the Los Angeles area. The four venues under consideration are the Coliseum, the Rose Bowl, and sites in Anaheim and Carson. *** FRIDAY UPDATE *** Offensive line coach Bob Wylie has been fired by HC Denny Green. The new line coach is Everett Lindsay.
