Bye Week Notice: Remember that Atlanta, Green Bay, Jacksonville, and Tennessee players
are all on bye this week.
SATURDAY UPDATES
Quarterbacks
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** QB Jason Garrett (TB) has been released by the team.
Running Backs
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Jamal Lewis (Bal) sounds ready to go. "I
had to serve my suspension, but it was for the better, too, so I could
get some rest," Lewis said. "I'm pretty fresh, and my legs are good…
That's the big thing, it's done with and I can put it behind me now,"
Lewis said. "I can move on with my job and do what I do best, which is
come out here and play football and be with my team."
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Stephen Davis (Car) remains a game-time
decision, but it looks like he will play this weekend. He probably
won't be anything close to a workhorse however so it's risky to be
expecting a huge day.
Davis practiced for a third straight day Friday, but is still listed
as questionable on the team's injury report according to Charlotte
Observer staffer Stan Olson, Stephen Davis. For what it's worth, Davis
didn't report any difficulty after practicing daily and most observers
expect him to be in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the
Raiders, barring any setbacks. But as Pro Football Weekly suggested:
"Even if Davis is able to play, the Panthers won't push him, meaning
he likely will split time with Brad Hoover."
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Mewelde Moore (Min) will most likely sit
this weekend. "He made good improvements today," head coach Mike Tice
said after Saturday's workout. "But. ... I'm leaning toward (sitting)
a young kid that hasn't practiced all week." Michael Bennett and
Onterrio Smith will split time in the backfield Monday. Tice hasn't
announced which back will start.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Brian Westbrook will play Sunday but the
big question in Philadelphia is how much action he'll see? "God works
in mysterious ways, man," Westbrook told reporters after Friday's
practice. "I've been working on it and playing on it, getting a lot of
treatment. ... I'm going to give it a try."
And according to Philadelphia Daily News staffer Les Bowen, that last
phrase might be crucial.
Bowen went on to remind readers that Westbrook hasn't been hit since
he suffered the injury. Nobody was saying yesterday exactly how many
touches Westbrook might get today -- whether he will be largely a
decoy, perhaps a third-down receiver, or whether he will be the
Westbrook who gained 182 total yards Oct. 3 in Chicago.
Westbrook said he does not think he will be used as a decoy against
the Steelers, but as a threat, just as he was before his injury. "I
think I can contribute," he said. "It's up to the coach how much I can
play." "Well, we'll see," Andy Reid said, when asked how much work
Westbrook might get. "I don't have a number, no. I'm just going to
play him. I'll rotate him like I did before he was hurt."
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** RB Duce Staley (Pit) tweaked a hamstring in
Friday's practice and has been downgraded to questionable. He will be
a game-time decision.
Wide Receivers
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** WR Drew Haddad (Buf) has been released by the team.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** WR Freddie Smith (Buf) has been signed by the
team from their practice squad.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** WR Antonio Bryant (Cle) looks to have an
increased role with his new team. "He played about 22 plays[last
week], which represented about one third," head coach Butch Davis
said. "I would absolutely think he'll play more. I think he's better
prepared to handle a larger role this week after having two weeks of
practice and being in meetings and getting a better understanding of
the offense."
He said it almost was unfair to throw Bryant into the Eagles game just
days after he was acquired in a trade for Quincy Morgan. "You can just
see his confidence level, and his performance has looked better in
practice because he knows what he's doing," Davis said. "He's running
fast, and he's very athletic, and he can catch the ball, so I would
suspect that we'd be able to utilize him better."
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** WR Randy Moss (Min) has been downgraded to
doubtful. He will not play this weekend. According to the Associated
Press, if Moss travels with the team to Indianapolis, he'll sit
upstairs in the coaches' booth, head coach Mike Tice said Saturday.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** WR Darrell Jackson (Sea) remains a game time
decision. "Jackson is making good strides," coach Mike Holmgren said,
"so that will be a game time decision." At this point, most observers
expect Jerry Rice to line up as the starter opposite Koren Robinson,
with Jackson -- if able -- coming off the bench in a situational role.
Place Kickers & Special Teamers
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** PK Bill Gramatica (Mia) has been signed by the
team and will kick for them this weekend if Matt Bryant can not go.
Defensive Linemen
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** DT Sam Rayburn (Phi) has signed a five-year
extension with the team.
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** DT Jon Bradley (TB) has been signed by the
team from their practice squad.
Defensive Backs
*** SATURDAY UPDATE *** CB Lito Sheppard (Phi) has signed a five-year
extension with the team.

QB Byron Leftwich (Jac) will miss 1-6 weeks with a sprained knee
ligament. Team doctors say the normal recuperation period is 4-6
weeks. However, Leftwich has a long history of playing through pain
and returning quickly from his injuries. The team has a bye this
week, and HC Jack Del Rio has not ruled Leftwich out of their week ten
game. "He's not going to be practicing this week. The doctor said
we'll check him again on Monday," said Del Rio. "We expect to get a
real good handle on it then." All that aside, the safe bet for FF
owners would be to grab Jaguars backup David Garrard if you are in
need of a QB.

should start this weekend.

get some rest," Lewis said. "I'm pretty fresh, and my legs are good…

Lewis said. "I can move on with my job and do what I do best, which is
come out here and play football and be with my team."

should play this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Musa Smith (Bal) practiced on Friday and
should play this weekend.
RB Stephen Davis (Car) practiced on Wednesday and could play this
weekend despite his injured knee. His status will depend upon how his
knee responds to the work in practice.
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Stephen Davis (Car) practiced for the
second consecutive day on Thursday but did not participate in contact
drills. His status will be decided later this week. "I want to be back
so bad," said Davis. "It gets frustrating. You watch the guys on TV
and they're going to war. You want to be out there with them. With
some of the things we have been going through this season, you want to
go out there and contribute in the best way possible. Not being able
to hurts a lot."
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Stephen Davis (Car) practiced on Friday, but
he still remains iffy for this weekend and will likely be a game-time
decision.
RB Thomas Jones (Chi) did not practice on Wednesday, but the team
hopes he'll be able to play this weekend despite his injured toe.
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Thomas Jones (Chi) did not practice again
on Thursday. Jones will likely be at best a game-time decision for
this weekend and could miss as many as three games. It is looking
like Anthony Thomas will get the start.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Thomas Jones (Chi) did not practice all week
and has been downgraded to doubtful. Being downgraded on Friday
almost assures that Jones will not play this weekend.
FB Jason McKie (Chi) practiced on Wednesday and could play this
weekend despite his injured knee.
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** FB Jason McKie (Chi) practiced on Thursday and
should play this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** FB Jason McKie (Chi) practiced all week and

*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Sammy Morris (Mia) practiced on Thursday
and should start this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Sammy Morris (Mia) practiced on Friday and
should start this weekend.
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Mewelde Moore (Min) did not practice on
Thursday. Moore might sit this weekend due to his injured ankle. "If
[Moore]'s not full speed, he'll be inactive," coach Mike Tice said.
Tice declined to reveal if Onterrio Smith or Michael Bennett would
start in Moore's absence but it's looking right now Moore will miss
time and Smith and Bennett will split the workload.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Mewelde Moore (Min) did not practice on
Friday and has been downgraded to questionable on the injury report.
The Vikings are playing on Monday night so he will have an extra day
to heal up, but right now it looks like Moore will sit this weekend.
Moore wore a protective boot while watching practice Friday.
"We'll take a look at him [Saturday]," head coach Mike Tice said. "If
he can't (practice) tomorrow, then we'll make a move there and maybe
downgrade him again."
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Onterrio Smith (Min) has completed his
four-game suspension and rejoined the team this week.
RB Corey Dillon (NE) did not practice on Wednesday, and HC Bill
Belichick is being his usual tight-lipped self regarding Dillon's
playing status.
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Corey Dillon (NE) partially participated in
Thursday's practice. He remains questionable on the injury report
with his thigh bruise. Backups Kevin Faulk and Cedric Cobb would fill
in for Dillon if he can't go. Faulk started last week but was totally
ineffective.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Corey Dillon (NE) partially participated in
Friday's practice. His status for this weekend is still unknown.
FB Patrick Pass (NE) did not practice on Wednesday and could sit this
weekend with his injured thigh.
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** FB Patrick Pass (NE) partially participated in
Thursday's practice and could sit this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** FB Patrick Pass (NE) partially participated in
Friday's practice and could sit this weekend.
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Deuce McAllister (NO) will start Sunday and
says he's better but still not all the way back. "Not playing this
past Sunday helped me, but I'm still not 100 percent," McAllister
said. "But I'm a little better than I was two weeks ago."
RB Justin Fargas (Oak) did not practice on Wednesday and should sit
this weekend.
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Justin Fargas (Oak) did not practice on

*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Tyrone Wheatley (Oak) practiced on Friday and
will start this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Reno Mahe (Phi) practiced on Friday and
should play this weekend.
RB Brian Westbrook (Phi) did not practice fully on Wednesday. He has
not been ruled out for this weekend, and his status will be decided
later this week. "I wasn't sure how much he could do today. He was out
there going through the walk-through and felt comfortable," Reid said.
"I'm not saying he doesn't have any tenderness in that spot, but he's
able to do some work. We weren't sure he was going to be able to do
that."
Westbrook has a non-displaced, minute fracture of his first rib, a
chest contusion and a muscle strain. The injuries were a result of a
punishing hit from Browns defensive end Kenard Lang in the fourth
quarter of the team's OT win on Oct. 24. "It's just a matter of the
comfort level," the coach said. "I wouldn't be surprised if he was
able to play on Sunday. If he didn't play, I wouldn't be surprised
either. "This is one of those day-to-day situations."
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** RB Brian Westbrook (Phi) practiced fully on
Thursday, but it was a non-contact day. He says the decision will be
up to coach Andy Reid. "I'm going to let coach Reid make that
decision," he said. "I'm going to go out and practice every day and
see how it feels."
The Eagles have said all along that Westbrook was progressing quickly.
He tested the injury out on Wednesday, felt fine and then went back
out and participated fully in Thursday's practice.
"I'm back practicing. Practice went well today. I'm trying to get back
in the rhythm of things a little bit and see how things go from
there," said Westbrook. "It feels pretty good when I'm practicing.
It's getting better. It's definitely healing.
"It's hard to tell (how the injury would react in a game). You never
really know with any injury until you get out there and go through the
plays, blocking and running the ball. Whenever I get the opportunity
to get out there, I'm going to try to make things happen. Hopefully,
I'll be ready." When asked if there was anything Westbrook wasn't able
to do on Thursday, he said, "No. I did everything."
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Brian Westbrook (Phi) practiced on Friday,
and it now looks like he will start and play this weekend. The number
of touches he receives will likely be dictated by how his body feels
during the game. "I've been feeling pretty good lately. Things are
going well, so hopefully I'll be out there," Westbrook said on Friday
after practice. "It's all healing. I don't know what is going to
hurt."
Coach Andy Reid said that Westbrook feels fine and wants to play. Reid
added that you have to go with the information that he is given. "He
feels good. He's running around and there's no wincing," Reid said.
According to the coach, the minimal fracture of Westbrook's rib wasn't
the major concern. It was the chest contusion that was the problem.
RB Duce Staley (Pit) did not practice on Wednesday but will still play
this weekend despite his injured knee.

will play this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB Duce Staley (Pit) practiced on Friday and

ten bye to heal up.

should start this weekend.
RB LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) rested his groin on Wednesday but will
play this weekend.

again on Thursday but will start this weekend. He says he's working
about 80% of full speed.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** RB LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) practiced on Friday
and will start this weekend. "It feels better and better every week,"
Tomlinson said. "It went good today."
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** FB Fred Beasley (SF) rested his ankle on
Thursday but is expected to start this weekend.
RB Maurice Hicks (SF) has been signed by the team from their practice squad.
RB Jamal Robertson (SF) has been released by the team.

Thursday and could sit this weekend.

Friday and has been downgraded to doubtful for this weekend's game.
RB Mike Alstott (TB) is still out with his MCL sprain.
Wide Receivers
WR Reggie Newhouse (Ari) has been released by the team and the signed
to the practice squad.
WR Patrick Johnson (Bal) has been signed by the team.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Kevin Johnson may be moving to the #3 WR
behind Clarence Moore and Travis Taylor. (See below)
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Clarence Moore (Bal) may move ahead of Kevin
Johnson as the #2 WR. According to the Sports Xchange, Johnson remains
listed as a starter, but the veteran receiver is expected to fall to
the No. 3 spot behind Travis Taylor and Clarence Moore this weekend.
"We expected to Kevin to come in and be very effective in a three,
four wide package. Injuries changed that dramatically," coach Brian
Billick said. "Although he has done fine with that on a running
profile team," the coach added. "He is most efficient when he's in
that three or four wide receiver set. So unfortunately, he's been a
byproduct of our injuries in that he's been pushed into a role that
he's certainly capable of doing but doesn't play to his strengths."
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Clarence Moore (Bal) should start this
weekend in place of the ineffective Kevin Johnson.
WR Drew Haddad (Buf) did not practice on Wednesday and could sit this
weekend with his injured hamstring.
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Drew Haddad (Buf) did not practice on
Thursday and could sit this weekend.

Thursday and could sit this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Peter Warrick (Cin) has been lost for the
season after being placed on the injured reserve list with his injured
shin.
WR Andre Davis (Cle) practiced on Wednesday and should play this
weekend despite his injured toe.
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Andre Davis (Cle) practiced on Thursday and
should play this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Andre Davis (Cle) practiced on Friday and
should play this weekend. "It feels fine," Davis said. "I'm ready to
go. I'm ready to get back on the field again.
"It was tough being out for a little bit, but I was grateful it was
only for a week. The bye week came right on time. I'm just ready to
get back on track and hopefully we can continue to keep this offense
moving."
WR Andre King (Cle) did not practice on Wednesday and should sit this
weekend with his injured ankle.
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Andre King (Cle) did not practice on
Thursday and should sit this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Andre King (Cle) did not practice on Friday
and should sit this weekend.
WR Quincy Morgan (Dal) practiced on Wednesday and should play this
weekend despite his injured hamstring. "I'm feeling good right now,"
Morgan said. "I'm gonna go out today and work and do what I can do and
see where I'm at by the end of the week."
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Quincy Morgan (Dal) practiced on Thursday
and barring a setback should play this weekend. "Oh, I think I'm going
to play," said Morgan, who missed all last week of practice and the
Lions game with a strained hamstring. "It feels a lot better and I've
been able to run on it full speed this week. I'm planning on being
there."
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Quincy Morgan (Dal) practiced again on Friday
and still expects to play this weekend. "It felt good out there,"
Morgan said. "I was able to do some things I wasn't able to do a week
ago. I don't know if I'm playing yet, but I'm definitely hopeful."
While Morgan might be ready to play, Erin Bolen and Sarah Piland from
Dallascowboys.com pointed out he's unlikely to start since Parcells
recently said Morgan plays the same position as Keyshawn Johnson.
That probably means Parcells will start Randal Williams for the second
week in a row. Williams, who has yet to catch a pass in the NFL, ran
for 13 yards on one carry after being inactive for the first six games
of the season.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Darius Watts (Den) practiced on Friday and
should play this weekend.
WR Tai Streets (Det) did not practice on Wednesday and could sit this
weekend with his injured hamstring.
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Tai Streets (Det) did not practice again on
Thursday and could sit this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Tai Streets (Det) did not practice on Friday
and should sit this weekend.
WR Roy Williams (Det) did not practice on Wednesday, but the team
hopes he'll be able to play this weekend despite his injured ankle.
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Roy Williams (Det) partially participated
in Thursday's practice and is still a game-time decision for this
weekend's game. He's improving and is better than he was last week.
The team looks for him to do a good bit of work in Friday's practice
to better gauge his availability.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Roy Williams (Det) practiced fully on Friday
and now (barring a setback) will play this weekend. According to ESPN
insider John Clayton, head coach Steve Mariucci claims Roy Williams
had his best Friday in three weeks.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Derick Armstrong (Hou) practiced on Friday
and should play this weekend.
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Corey Bradford (Hou) was limited in
Thursday's practice. He expects to work more on Friday but could be a
game-time decision for this weekend.

and should play this weekend.
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Marty Booker (Mia) practiced on Friday and
should start this weekend.
WR Ryan Hoag (Min) has been released by the team.
WR Randy Moss (Min) needs to take some time off and heal, but there
has been no word from the team regarding whether that will happen. At
best, Moss will be limited this weekend as he keeps his consecutive
games played streak alive.
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Randy Moss (Min) did not practice on
Thursday. According to the Associated Press, Moss had an MRI Thursday
on his ailing right hamstring, his first such exam since he was
injured last month. Moss has a slight tear in the hamstring, which
likely will keep him below full speed for three to four more weeks.
Head coach Mike Tice said he won't announce his decision until right
before kickoff of their Monday Night game.
While not official, Sid Hartman of the Minneapolis Star Tribune said
Friday, "Apparently the decision has been made that injured Vikings
wide receiver Randy Moss will not play against the Indianapolis Colts
on Monday night."
Tice also said, "The main thing is we don't want him to take a step
backwards. We've been a little blessed and lucky to this point where
he hasn't taken a step backwards. At a certain point, you're not going
to maintain that luck."
*** FRIDAY UPDATE *** WR Randy Moss (Min) did not practice again on
Friday. It still looks like the team is leaning toward sitting him
this weekend. Regardless, with the way he has looked the last two
weeks, Moss on the field is an extremely risky bet for any fantasy
owner.
WR Ben Nelson (Min) has been signed by the team from their practice squad.
*** THURSDAY UPDATE *** WR Marcus Robinson (Min) partially
participated in Thursday's practice but should still start this
weekend.
WR Deion Branch (NE) did not practice on Wednesday and should sit
again this weekend with his injured knee.
