  • What an opening game for RB Quentin Griffin last week.  He rushed for 156 yards and scored 3 touchdowns
  • WR Rod Smith was targeted nine times and caught seven passes
  • WR Ashley Lelie had a good start to the season.  He caught 4 passes for 88 yards on five targets

  • RB Tony Hollings only had four touches on the day (for 37 yards)
  • QB David Carr had a good week / bad week kind of vibe in week one:
    - The good?  Carr completed 76% of his passes for 229 yards
    - The bad? Carr threw 2 interceptions and 0 touchdown passes and his team lost at home to the Chargers

Indianapolis Colts (@ Tennessee)

  •  The Colts defeated the Titans in Tennessee last season 29 to 27
  • The Colts won both games against the Titans in 2003 (lost both games in 2002)
  • The Colts were 7-1 on the road last season
  • In four games against the Titans, QB Peyton Manning has…
    - completed 67.3% of his passes for 1025 yards
    - thrown only four touchdown passes against four interceptions

  • The good news?  WR Jimmy Smith was targeted ten times in week one.  The bad news is he only caught four of those looks
  • WR Troy Edwards was targeted seven times (and caught five passes for 37 yards)
  • Rookie WR Reggie Williams was outshined by fellow rookie Ernest Wilfolk who caught a touchdown pass
  • RB Fred Taylor had a quiet game one with only 17 carries for 61 yards
  • QB Byron Leftwich was having a terrible first game but rebounded at the end to lead his team to victory.  He ended with 147 passing yards

Kansas City Chiefs (vs. Carolina)

  • The Chiefs were 8-0 at home last season (14-2 over the last two season)
  • RB Priest Holmes looked awesome in week one.  He ran for 151 yards and scored three times
  • WR Eddie Kennison led the way with 11 targets in week one (caught six for 101 yards)
  • TE Tony Gonzalez was targeted seven times but only caught two thanks to DB Champ Bailey.  Look for him to rebound this week
  • QB Trent Green had a very quiet game last week.  He only threw for 174 yards and didn’t throw for a touchdown
  • WR Johnnie Morton caught 3 passes for 30 yards in a quiet first game of the year

Miami Dolphins (at Cincinnati)

  • The Dolphins haven’t started with back-to-back losses since the 1988 season
  • The Dolphins were 6-2 on the road last season
  • The Dolphins haven’t had a losing record since 1988 (6-10)
  • The Dolphins in that span only went 6-9 in the post season
  • In week one, WR Chris Chambers was targeted 11 times.  He caught 6 for 35 yards
  • TE Randy McMichael caught 8 passes for 79 yards and a score in week one
  • RB Lamar Gordon had 12 carries, caught 5 passes and totaled 62 yards
  • QB Jay Fiedler started the game but was terrible last week.  He completed only 38.5% of his throws and was picked off twice
  • QB A.J. Feeley also struggled at times but ended with 168 passing yards, completed 67.7% of his throws and tossed a touchdown

Minnesota Vikings (@ Philadelphia)

  • The Vikings went 3-5 on the road last season (lost their final five games)
  • The Vikings won their first six games of 2003 (lost seven of the final ten)
  • The Vikings last faced the Eagles in Philadelphia during the 2001 season (lost 48 to 17)
  • WR Randy Moss was only targeted six times in the first game
  • WR Kelly Campbell was only targeted once last week but it resulted in a 43-yard touchdown
  • RB Onterrio Smith had 139 total yards and scored a touchdown in week one
  • What a great start for Daunte Culpepper.  He threw for only 242 yards but tossed five touchdown passes
  • In his only game against the Eagles (2001 season), Moss caught 7 passes for 95 yards and scored a touchdown
  • In his only game against the Eagles (2001 season), Culpepper threw for 285 yards and a pair of scores

New England Patriots (@ Arizona)

  • The Patriots were 6-2 on the road last season (10-6 over the last two seasons)
  • Last game against the Cardinals was in 1999 (Patriots won with ease 27 to 3)
  • TE Daniel Graham led the way with ten targets in week one (caught seven of them and scored a touchdown)
  • WR Deion Branch was targeted nine times and caught seven of them for 86 yards and a score
  • QB Tom Brady lit up the Colts in week one.  He threw for 335 yards and tossed 3 touchdowns
  • RB Corey Dillon only had 15 touches on the day but did gain 86 yards
  • Both WR David Patten and WR David Givens were also effective with 86 and 80 receiving yards respectively

New Orleans Saints (vs. San Francisco)

  • The Saints were 5-3 at home last season (9-7 over the last two season)
  • The Saints defeated the 49ers 35 to 27 at home in 2002
  • The Saints are 3-2 against the 49ers going back to the 2000 season
  • WR Joe Horn is still the man for the Saints.  He had nine targets and caught six of them for 110 yards
  • Both tight ends are getting looks.  Boo Williams and Ernie Conwell combined for 11 targets and 6 receptions
  • WR Jerome Pathon was targeted five times but didn’t catch a pass
  • RB Deuce McAllister was a big disappointment in week one.  He only had 77 total yards and no scores
  • McAllister rushed for 139 yards and scored a touchdown in his last meeting against the 49ers
  • In five games against the 49ers, Horn has caught 31 passes for 524 yards and scored 5 touchdowns
  • In four games against the 49ers, Brooks has thrown for 923 yards and 7 touchdowns
  • In three of the games against the 49ers, Brooks threw for 804 yards, 7 touchdowns and 0 interceptions
  • In the other game against the 49ers (in 2001), Brooks threw for 119 yards, 0 touchdowns and 4 interceptions

New York Giants (vs. Washington)

  • The Giants were 1-7 at home last season (6-10 over the last two seasons)
  • Giants are 5-3 against the Redskins since the 2000 season
  • The Giants lost in New York last season against the Redskins (7 to 20)
  • The Giants lost all three divisional games at home in 2003

  • WR Santana Moss was a disappointment with only 4 receptions for 55 yards

  • Although he did have a quiet first game, WR Jerry Porter did lead the way with 10 targets (only caught 4 for 44 yards)

  • The Raiders were unable to run last week against the Steelers.  Both Tyrone Wheatley and Justin Fargas combined for 41 yards
  • In the 2002 matchup against the Bills…
    - QB Rich Gannon threw for 357 yards and 3 touchdowns
    - WR Jerry Rice caught 4 passes for 77 yards and a score
    - RB Tyrone Wheatley only had five rushing yards

Philadelphia Eagles (vs. Minnesota)

  • The Eagles were 5-3 at home last season (12-4 over the last two seasons)
  • The Eagles won five of their final six home games in 2003
  • The Eagles crushed the Vikings in their last meeting in 2001.  The score was 48-17

Pittsburgh Steelers (@ Baltimore)

  • The Steelers lost in Baltimore 13-10 last season
  • The Steelers are 3-1 against the Ravens over the last two seasons
  • The Steelers were 2-6 on the road last year (7-9 over the last two years)
  • The Steelers were 5-1 on the road against divisional foes over the last two years
  • RB Jerome Bettis had one of the strangest stat lines of recent memories last week.  He had 5 carries for 1 yard but scored 3 touchdowns.
  • Not only did WR Plaxico Burress only catch one pass last week, he was only targeted three times
  • WR Hines Ward caught all seven passes thrown his way last week.
  • QB Tommy Maddox was very quiet last week.  He only threw for 142 yards on the day with no touchdown passes
  • In eight games against the Ravens, Burress has caught 33 passes for 549 yards and scored 4 touchdowns
  • In ten games against the Ravens, Ward has caught 43 passes for 498 yards and scored 5 touchdowns
  • In four games against the Ravens, Maddox has only thrown for 733 yards but has thrown 7 touchdowns

San Diego Chargers (vs. NY Jets)

  • The Chargers were 2-6 at home last year (7-9 over the last two years)
  • The Chargers lost to the Jets by 31 points in 2002
  • TE Antonio Gates caught all eight of the passes thrown his way last week (for 123 receiving yards)
  • The second leading receiver was Reche Caldwell who caught 4 passes for 65 yards and a score
  • QB Drew Brees played very well.  He threw for 209 yards, completed 70.8% of his throws and tossed two touchdowns
  • RB LaDainian Tomlinson carried the ball 26 times last week for 121 yards and did score a touchdown
  • In the 2002 meeting with the Jets, Tomlinson only touched the ball 14 times.  Expect that to change this week
  • In that 2002 meeting, Brees completed 63% of his passes and tossed one touchdown

San Francisco 49ers (@ New Orleans)

  • The 49ers were 1-7 on the road last season (beat the Eagles in week sixteen in a surprising victory)
  • The 49ers lost to the Saints 35 to 27 in New Orleans during the 2002 campaign
  • WR Brandon Lloyd led the way with 11 targets last week but it was WR Cedric Wilson who shined with 94 yards and a score
  • TE Eric Johnson had a great start to the season with 8 receptions and a touchdown
  • QB Tim Rattay started terribly but came back in during the second half to end up with 175 yards and 2 touchdown passes
  • QB Ken Dorsey came off of the bench and completed 9 of 15 passes for 111 yards
  • RB Kevan Barlow started slowly but rebounded to finish with 76 rushing yards on 19 carries

Seattle Seahawks (@ Tampa Bay)

  • The Seahawks were 2-6 on the road last season (6-10 over the last two seasons)
  • The Seahawks lost 16 to 3 to the Buccaneers during the 1999 season
  • Last week, WR Darrell Jackson had ten passes thrown his way and he caught seven for 98 yards
  • WR Koren Robinson had three drops last week, bringing back bad memories of a season ago
  • RB Shaun Alexander was awesome last week.  He finished with 166 total yards and 3 scores
  • QB Matt Hasselbeck threw for 246 yards and one score last week
  • The tight end position was all but ignored with only three total targets and a single reception

St. Louis Rams (@ Atlanta)

  • The Rams were 4-4 on the road last season (5-11 over the last two years)
  • The Rams crushed the Falcons 36 to 0 in St. Louis last season
  • Last week, it was WR Isaac Bruce that led the way with 13 targets (and he caught 9 for 112 yards and a score)
  • WR Torry Holt was targeted only nine times last week but did catch 7 of them for 96 yards

  • In last year’s game against the Falcons, Bulger threw for 352 yards and 2 touchdowns

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (vs. Seattle)

  • The Buccaneers were 3-5 at home last season (9-7 over the last two years)
  • Rookie WR Michael Clayton was targeted 11 times last week and caught 7 passes
  • QB Brad Johnson really struggled last week.  He only threw for 169 yards on 37 pass attempts
  • RB Charlie Garner was the Buccaneers leading rushing but only gained 25 yards and caught one pass
  • RB Alstott did next to nothing on the ground but did manage to catch 3 passes
  • WR Joey Galloway is out for at least several week and it appears that Clayton has become the # 1 guy
  • WR Charles Lee is expected to replace Galloway in the starting lineup

Tennessee Titans (vs. Colts)

  • The Titans were 7-1 at home last season (13-3 at home over the last two seasons)
  • The Titans only loss at home last season was to the Colts
  • The Colts won both meetings in 2003 and the Titans won both in 2002
  • RB Chris Brown reached 100 yards on only 16 carries.  His 6.3 average hasn’t been seen around Tennessee for some time
  • QB Steve McNair only threw for 73 yards against the Dolphins.  He simply didn’t have to throw for the Titans to win
  • Nobody on the Titans had more than four targets last week against the Dolphins.  That will change this week
  • In four games against the Colts, McNair has…
    - passed for 692 yards, thrown five touchdowns and had none picked off
    - rushed for 82 yards and scored a touchdown
  • In four games against the Colts, WR Derrick Mason has caught 27 passes for 280 yards and one score

Washington Redskins (@ NY Giants)

  • The Redskins were 2-6 on the road last year (4-12 over the last two years)
  • The Redskins won 20 to 7 in New York last year
  • The Redskins have only won one of the last four meetings against the Giants
  • WR Laveranues Coles was targeted eight times last week but only had 3 receptions
  • WR Rod Gardner was the leading receiver with 4 receptions for 61 yards
