Quarterbacks
Buffalo's backup QB J.P. Losman was inactive for the game on Sunday, as he
continues his recovery from a leg injury (questionable on Friday).
Chicago's new starting QB, Craig Krenzel, was unavailable to speak to the media
after the game - he was receiving treatment from team trainers on his left side
- the nature of and the extent of the injuries is not currently known. He was
X-rayed, and further evaluations are ongoing.
Jacksonville's Byron Leftwich will miss at least the next two weeks, the team
confirmed Monday. Leftwich was re-evaluated Monday, and doctors decided there
was no need for surgery - he will remain in a brace and on crutches this week.
Coach Del Rio said he expects Leftwich to return Nov. 28 for the game at Minnesota.
Miami's Jay Fiedler was forced out of the game on Sunday with a neck stinger,
and could not return to action. A.J. Feeley took over and finished in the team's
1 pt loss to Arizona. The team expects Fiedler to be able to return in 2-3 weeks
(the team is on bye next week).
New York Jets' Chad Pennington was forced out of the game on Sunday with an
injured right shoulder. He said it felt like a charley horse, except in your
shoulder - backup Quincy Carter took over and hit Santana Moss for Moss' first
TD of the season. On Monday, the team revealed that Pennington will be out this
week and maybe longer as recovers from a strained right rotator cuff, revealed
by an MRI on Monday. Quincy Carter will start.
Pittsburgh's Tommy Maddox was active for the game on Sunday, but did not play
as Ben Roethlisberger is the teams' unquestioned starter at this point in the
season.
San Francisco's Tim Rattay played in the game on Sunday, and the 49ers passing
game was much better with Rattay in the lineup. He has an examination on his
injured forearm scheduled for today, but wishes to skip it - "Tim Rattay
has a medical exam scheduled for today but wants to cancel because he doesn't
see the point. Even if doctors decide his ailing right forearm needs surgery
-- a distinct possibility -- Rattay would hold off until after the season because
the operation requires two weeks of recovery time. After a 42-27 loss to the
Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, the 49ers quarterback said his arm feels fine enough
to allow him to play. 'Hopefully, I'm past that,' Rattay said, adding that he
hopes to have more velocity on his throws next week." (Mercurynews.com
article by Daniel Brown and Dennis Georgatos, 11/8/04).
Tampa Bay's Chris Simms was inactive for the game on Sunday (left shoulder
injury) - he has been supplanted by Brian Griese in the starting lineup, and
Griese is playing exceptionally well right now.
Running Backs
Arizona's Josh Scobey missed the game on Sunday, despite being listed as probable
on Friday. It's not clear if his knee flared up, or if roster requirements kept
Scobey idle.
Carolina's Stephen Davis missed the game on Sunday due to his injured knee
(out on Friday's injury report), and the team struggled mightily in his absence
(Brad Hoover saw the most action (8/17/0 rushing the ball)). Coach Fox made
the decision 90 minutes prior to game time when the teams' coaching/training
staff noticed swelling in the joint. "He wasn't 100 percent and I don't
like putting guys out there that aren't at their best. We felt that was the
situation with him." Fox said after the game.
Chicago's Thomas Jones was inactive for the game on Sunday due to his sprained
foot. He was listed as doubtful on Friday's injury report.
Dallas' Julius Jones remains sidelined by his broken shoulder blade, as expected.
He was listed as out on Friday.

on Friday's injury report).
KC RB Derrick Blaylock was inactive for the game on Sunday due to his injured
quadriceps. Priest Holmes injured his right knee during the game on Sunday (contusion),
and was unable to finish the game. After the game he indicated that he'd wear
a brace on the limb early in the week and that he and the Chiefs would wait
and see how much "tightening" he experiences due to the injury. This
is an ongoing situation that the team will evaluate further as the week goes
along. After the game coach Vermeil said "He was not healthy. He was not
able to play. If Priest Holmes says it isn't ready, you know it isn't ready."
New England's Corey Dillon played in the game on Sunday and was highly effective
despite his sore thigh (questionable on Friday's injury report).
Oakland's Justin Fargas was inactive (toe, questionable on Friday) for the
game on Sunday. He has missed many weeks of action due to this injury.
Philadelphia's Brian Westbrook played in the game despite his rib injury, but
didn't have much success during the game (6/17/0 rushing, 3/4/0 receiving) -
he appears to be limited at this point (although Pittsburgh's D was very stout
during that game -- nobody on the Eagles had much luck this week). After the
game, Westbrook claimed he was pain-free in the ribs.
Pittsburgh's Duce Staley missed the game on Sunday due to his injured hamstring,
strained late in practice on Friday, despite being listed as probable on Friday.
He suffered increasing stiffness and pain on Saturday, and the team held him
out as a precautionary measure. Jerome Bettis and Verron Haynes combined for
200 yards rushing vs. the soft Eagles' defensive front in Staley's absence.
Pittsburgh's FB Dan Kreider suffered a hip flexor injury in the game on Sunday
and did not return to action. The severity of the injury is not currently known.

to correct the condition in the near future.

game and didn't return to action. Fellow WR Andre King missed the game due to
his injured ankle - a "high" ankle sprain that he's been struggling
with for weeks (doubtful on Friday's injury report).
Dallas' Quincy Morgan missed the game on Sunday due to his sore hamstring (questionable
on Friday's injury report).
Detroit's Tai Streets missed the game on Sunday due to a hamstring injury (questionable
on Friday's injury report). Roy Williams played despite his ankle injury, but
didn't look 100% (3/33/0).
Miami's Marty Booker injured his right ankle in the game on Sunday - the injury
is being called a high ankle sprain, and Booker was on crutches after the game
- the initial diagnosis is that Booker will miss 2-8 weeks, but high ankle sprains
are tricky to rehab, depending on the severity of the sprain. Stay tuned on
this one if you are a Booker owner. A MRI is scheduled for Monday.
New England's Deion Branch continues to be sidelined by his injury (knee, doubtful)
- he was inactive on Sunday.
Oakland's Alvis Whitted (hip, questionable on Friday) was inactive for the

on Sunday, and is considered questionable for next week's game.

on Friday).

listed as out on Friday) due to his injured ankle. Fellow WR Alex Bannister

also out for this game. All the injuries forced Darrell Jackson into the game,
despite a sore ankle. Jackson was a game decision and played extremely well.

Further evaluations of the knee are ongoing.
New Orleans' #2 TE Ernie Conwell left the game on Sunday due to a bruised sternum
and could not return to action.
Place Kickers
Miami's Olindo Mare (right calf) and Matt Bryant (right quadriceps) were both
inactive for the game on Sunday. Bill Gramatica kicked in their stead, hitting
3 FG's but blowing a PAT - the Dolphins lost by 1 point, BTW.
Oakland's Sebastian Janikowski strained a groin muscle early in the game on
Sunday - Coach Turner suggested that was the reason for Janikowski's short kickoffs
on Sunday.

Offensive Linemen
Baltimore's LT Jonathan Ogden missed the game on Sunday, as expected (doubtful
on Friday's injury report).

of a doctor (Dr. William Andrews of Birmingham), who said that Anderson needs
to rest his injured right knee for 3 weeks.
Buffalo's RT Mike Williams sprained his neck during the game on Sunday, and
was taken off the field in an ambulance. However, X-rays were negative and all
his limbs have feeling and motion - it does not appear like a career-threatening
injury as of Monday.

hamstring (questionable on Friday). He has missed several games due to this
injury.

any further problems with the joint.
Kansas City's DT Junior Siavii (ankle) was unable to play on Sunday due to
his injury (he was questionable on Friday's injury report).
New York Giants' DE Michael Strahan will have season ending surgery to repair
a torn pectoral muscle Wednesday. DE Keith Washington is lost for the year as
well with a torn ACL knee injury. This is a devastating blow to the Giants'
defensive front, obviously. Osi Umenyiora is likely to be the IDP player to
most benefit from this development - coaches had said they wanted to get him
more involved in the games as he is developing nicely.
