Week 11 Comprehensive Injury Wrap Up

By Mark Wimer

Quarterbacks

Arizona's Josh McCown was benched this week due to coach Green's feeling that Shaun King could produce more results in the passing game (McCown was also struggling with a sore neck as a result of slamming his head into the turf last week).

Carolina's Jake Delhomme played most of the game on Sunday despite a hairline fracture on his throwing-hand thumb. Said Delhomme "I felt good throwing the ball on Thursday. I just wanted to see what it felt like taking a snap. So I took some snaps (Saturday) morning. Don't get me wrong; it doesn't feel good - but it's good enough."

Cleveland's Jeff Garcia was knocked out of the game vs. the Steelers with a strained shoulder. He did not return to action - further evaluations are scheduled for today, including an MRI examination.

Dallas' Vinny Testaverde suffered a shoulder injury in the game on Sunday, and was replaced by Drew Henson after being knocked out of the game.

Jacksonville's Byron Leftwich missed the game on Sunday, as expected (knee, doubtful on Friday). He expects to be back this week, though: "There's nothing definite in life except death and taxes, but it's a pretty good bet I'll be back out there."

Miami's QB A.J. Feeley injured his thigh/gluteal muscles in the game on Sunday. He was briefly replaced by Jay Fiedler, who suffered another neck stinger and could not continue play. Feeley then limped through the rest of the game, at times visibly in agony due to the injury. Feeley's status for the next game will depend on evaluations as the week progresses. An MRI is scheduled to further evaluate Feeley's injuries.

New York Jets' Chad Pennington missed the game on Sunday, as expected (shoulder, out on Friday's injury report). Asked about his chances to play sometime during the next two weeks, Pennington replied: "It's not an A-B-C-D injury. It's an injury that takes awhile. It's a frustrating injury. Sometimes your body takes a huge jump forward and sometimes it takes a step back. You hope you keep making big steps forward and are not taking steps back."

Seattle's Matt Hasselbeck suffered a "charley horse" on the first play of the game in week 10, and was unable to play in Sunday's contest due to his sore thigh. He was the third (emergency) QB while Trent Dilfer stepped into the starting lineup.
