Hi Folks,
As we do every Monday, here's the full report covering the injuries from yesterdays
games.
Hope you're doing better than these guys.
Joe
Quarterbacks
Arizona's John Navarre injured his ring finger (throwing hand) but played through
the injury on Sunday. He suffered through a 4 interception performance vs. Detroit
(18/40 for 168 yards, 1 TD and 4 interceptions). Coach Dennis Green said after
the game that Navarre would start for this Sunday's game but changed his tune
today and has announced that Josh McCown will now start.
Atlanta's Michael Vick missed one play after taking a hard shot (and banging
his head) from Buccaneer Derrick Brooks. He returned to play and suffered through
a miserable 27-0 drubbing from the Buccaneers. If the head injury to Vick turns
out to be more significant than it seems on Monday, Matt Schaub would be the
guy to fill in for Vick.
Chicago's QB Craig Krenzel was inactive due to his right ankle injury (out
on Friday's injury report) - Chad Hutchinson may have resurrected his NFL career
with an impressive and surprising 18/30 for 213 yards, 3 TDs and 0 interceptions
performance on Sunday.
Cleveland's Jeff Garcia was sidelined for the game on Sunday due to his shoulder
injury/being in the new coaches' dog-house. He suited up but did not play. Kelly
Holcomb didn't play due to his injured ribs - rookie QB Luke McCown started
and finished the game with (20/34 for 277 yards, 2 TDs and 2 interceptions).
Houston's David Carr took a hard hit on Sunday that caused him to have a sore
neck after the game - he missed only 1 play during the game, though, and the
injury isn't considered serious at this time.
Miami's A.J. Feeley played through his various bumps and bruises on Sunday,
with mixed results (25/51 for 303 yards, 3 TDs and a whopping 5 interceptions).
New York Jets' Chad Pennington played and played well on Sunday - his shoulder
looks fully healed.
San Francisco's Tim Rattay suffered an injury to his foot arch early in the
game on Sunday, but stayed in the game. He's questionable to play in the next
game. Ken Dorsey would likely step in if Rattay can't play (the 49er offense
has looked even worse when Dorsey is under center, though - not a recommended
FA move).
St. Louis' Marc Bulger injured his right (throwing) shoulder early in the game
on Sunday, and couldn't continue to play. Backup Chris Chandler stepped in and
played well in relief of Bulger - further examinations after the game and on
Monday showed that, while not a serious injury, the bruising is painful enough
that Chandler is likely to start in relief of Bulger this week.
Tennessee's Steve McNair sat out the game on Sunday to rest his injured sternum
(and various other bumps and bruises incurred during the course of the season).
Billy Volek is the replacement when McNair can't play.
Running Backs
Arizona's Emmitt Smith missed the game on Sunday due to his injured toe (doubtful),
as expected. Larry Croom was unimpressive in relief of Smith (18/49/0 rushing,
with 5/23/0 from Josh Scobey as an assist).
Baltimore's Jamal Lewis' ankle injury kept him on the sidelines on Sunday (out
on Friday's report).
Buffalo's Travis Henry missed the game on Sunday due to his leg/ankle injury
(out on Friday's injury report), as expected. Willis McGahee left the game briefly
to have his ankle attended to by the training staff, but returned to action
and looked just fine.
Cleveland's Lee Suggs (toe injury, questionable) was inactive for the game
on Sunday.
Cincinnati's Chris Perry (abdomen, questionable) was inactive on Sunday as
usual.
Green Bay's Ahman Green wore a "flak jacket" during the game on Sunday
and did not appear to aggravate the injured ribs that kept him out of the game
two games ago.
Houston's Tony Hollings (hamstring, out) missed the game on Sunday, as expected.
KC RB Priest Holmes missed the game on Sunday, due to his injured knee (out
on Friday). Derrick Blaylock suffered a neck strain on a hard hit, and was limited
to part-time duty for the rest of the game - Larry Johnson did well in his opportunity,
with 20/118/1 rushing and 3/56/1 receiving in relief of Holmes and Blaylock.
Coach Vermeil indicated that Blaylock could have played more if necessary, but
the team wanted to be careful with him after the hard hit.
Miami's Sammy Morris was unable to play in the game on Sunday due to his injured
ribs (doubtful on Friday's injury report).
Minnesota's Mewelde Moore was inactive for the game on Sunday, but was not
listed as injured - he has been rehabbing a high ankle sprain in previous weeks.
Onterrio Smith suffered a groin injury late in the 3rd quarter. He also suffered
from a numb left foot that he said was due to the cold weather. He actually
said the foot bothered him more than the groin. Neither injury is expected to
keep him out of the lineup this week. Michael Bennett was active but did not
carry the ball at all for the second straight week.
New England's Corey Dillon injured his thigh in the game on Sunday, and missed
part of the 2nd quarter due to the injury (he also sat out much of the 2nd half
in a blow-out victory). Kevin Faulk and rookie Cedric Cobbs carried the ball
in Dillon's absence.
Oakland's Tyrone Wheatley missed the game on Sunday due to his hamstring/foot
injuries, as expected (out on Friday's injury report). The team is employing
a RBBC approach in his absence (Amos Zereoue, Justin Fargas and J.R. Redmond
combined for 7/31/0 rushing as a tandem on Sunday).
Philadelphia's RB Reno Mahe (knee, out) was inactive on Sunday, as expected.
RB Brian Westbrook, playing through a rib injury, indicated after the game that
he's feeling "close to 100%"
Pittsburgh's Verron Haynes (knee, doubtful) was inactive for the game on Sunday.
San Diego's Jesse Chatman was knocked out of the game on Sunday due to a big
hit from John Lynch. He had been dealing with a sore toe prior to the game -
no new injury to Chatman was reported after the game, though.
San Francisco's Kevan Barlow sustained a concussion during the game on Sunday.
(Barlow had 19/48/0 rushing before his day was over). He is questionable to
play in next week's game.
St. Louis' Marshall Faulk was suited up but did not play in the game on Sunday
due to his bruised knee. Steven Jackson performed well on Sunday, with 26/119/0
rushing and 3/30/0 receiving. Jackson bruised a knee near the end of the game,
but appears fine and is expected to start despite the contusion.
Tennessee's Chris Brown was active and played on Sunday, with 19/104/0, but
could not finish the game due to aggravating his injured toe. Antowain Smith
stepped in and finished the contest for the Titans.
Wide Receivers

on the injury report for two weeks now) was inactive for the game on Sunday.

to his injury.

Sunday - he'll be evaluated further as the week goes along.

missed only 2 plays - the injury is not considered serious at this time.
Jacksonville's Jermaine Lewis (concussion) remains sidelined by his injury.
Miami's already-injured WR David Boston (IR, knee) faces a possible four-game
suspension without pay due to testing positive for anabolic steroids, the Sun
Sentinel reports on Monday. Boston will have to decide whether to continue the
appeals process or to get the suspension over with while already on IR.
Minnesota's Randy Moss played in the game on Sunday despite not being 100%
recovered from his partially torn hamstring. He looked limited by his injury
(and the cold weather's effect on it) - Moss ended the day with 4/31/0.
New Orleans' Michael Lewis (ankle, questionable) was inactive for the game
on Sunday due to his injury.
New York Jets' WR Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring, questionable) was inactive
for the game on Sunday.
New York Giants' WR Willie Ponder (back, questionable) missed the game on Sunday
due to his injury.
Oakland's WR Ronald Curry suffered what appeared to be a torn left Achilles
tendon on Sunday - if that is the case, he is done for the season. A MRI is
expected to confirm the diagnosis. Fellow WR Johnnie Morant (foot, out) missed
the game on Sunday. The other receivers behind Curry are also dinged up, so
who may step in for Curry is an open question at this point.
