Early Injury Report - Week 6

Quarterbacks

Buffalo's backup QB J.P. Losman missed the game on Sunday due to his broken leg, as expected.

Green Bay's backup QB Doug Pederson was placed on IR on last Thursday due to a broken rib, torn muscle in his side, and a cracked vertebra in his back.

Houston's David Carr missed one play on Sunday after getting the wind knocked out on a hard hit. The injury is not considered serious at this time. He'd been nursing a foot injury early in the week and appeared to be ok.

Miami's Jay Fiedler cracked ribs on the right side of his body on Sunday, and is out indefinitely (depending on the severity of the fractures). A.J. Feeley was concussed and had to leave the game - he was fuzzy after the game and didn't speak to reporters. The severity of the concussion isn't currently known, but it may keep him out of the lineup this week. The team is expected to turn to Sage Rosenfels (who some observers felt was the best QB in town during training camp) on Sunday.

Oakland's Rich Gannon missed the game on Sunday, as expected (fractured neck vertebrae, out on Friday's injury report).

Pittsburgh's Tommy Maddox missed the game on Sunday, as expected (elbow injury, out on Friday injury report).

Tampa Bay's Chris Simms sprained his left (throwing) shoulder in the game on Sunday and was unable to continue game play. He will be evaluated further as the week goes along - backup Brian Griese was effective in his chance, and led the team to their first victory of 2004. On Monday, coach Gruden indicated that it is doubtful that Simms can play (or even practice) this week, although surgery on the shoulder is not expected. Brian Griese will start this week.

Running Backs

Arizona's RB/KR Josh Scobey missed the game on Sunday due to his knee injury, as expected. Arizona's Emmitt Smith tweaked his groin in the fourth quarter on Sunday, but the injury didn't appear serious.

Baltimore's RB Ovie Mughelli (hamstring, questionable) was inactive for the game on Sunday.

Buffalo's Travis Henry was forced from the game for a while on Sunday by an ankle injury. He returned to the game later. It was his seventh straight game (dating back to last year) without a TD. Backup Willis McGahee had some strong runs in relief of Henry (long of 21, 8/42/0 on the day).

Buffalo's Shaud Williams (knee) missed the game on Sunday, as expected. He was listed as doubtful on Friday.

Carolina's Stephen Davis continues to be sidelined by his injury (knee) - he warmed up before the game, but was determined to be unable to play. Coach John Fox just wasn't convinced Davis could cut well enough to play. The team expects him to be able to play next week.

Carolina's DeShaun Foster broke his collarbone in the game on Sunday, and is now sidelined for the majority (4-6 weeks, minimum) of the season. A MRI is scheduled today for further evaluation of the injury.

Carolina's RB Rod Smart was inactive due to his knee injury (doubtful on Friday).

Dallas' Julius Jones remains sidelined by his broken shoulder blade, as expected. He was listed as out on Friday.

Denver's Quentin Griffin was unable to play on Sunday due to his ankle injury. He had been listed as questionable on Friday, but had not practiced during the week. In his absence, Rueben Droughns carried the load, gaining 193 yards in the victory over Carolina. After the game coach Shanahan commented "I thought Q would have a good chance to a least dress out today. He worked out before the game and said he was ready to go. I said, 'How do you feel when you cut?' He said that he felt 95 percent. When you don't get any reps during the week and just a few reps on Friday, 95 percent is not good enough. We'll let Q heal up and get ready for the Raiders."

Houston's starting FB Moran Norris (knee) missed the game on Sunday due to his injury. He was listed as questionable on Friday.

New England's Corey Dillon sat out for most of the 4th quarter on Sunday after tweaking an ankle - the injury did not appear serious, and he was held out for "precautionary reasons". "I think he'll be all right," was coach Belichick's comment on the situation. Kevin Faulk finally got back on the field this week (he returned punts and caught a 14 yard screen pass).

New Orleans Deuce McAllister (high ankle sprain) returned to action on Sunday, despite comments from coach Haslett earlier in the week that had indicated pessimism on Haslett's part. McAllister did not seem to aggravate the injury, and rushed for more than 100 yards for the first time this year. He did seem to be a little limited in his cutting ability but was still very productive.

Oakland's Tyrone Wheatley's injured left shoulder kept him out of the game on Sunday, as expected.

San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinson limped off the field on Sunday in the 3rd quarter with a sore groin and did not return to action. Detroit's Roy Williams was carted off the field after rolling over his ankle on Sunday, but the injury is not a broken ankle, as initially feared. Coach Mariucci indicated that the ankle needed time for the swelling to run its course so that the severity of the sprain could be assessed. William's status will be updated as the week goes along. As of Monday afternoon, the team was calling his status day-to-day - he might play as early as this Sunday. Tests on Monday indicated the injury is not a high ankle sprain.

Houston's Andre Johnson tweaked his ankle in the game on Sunday - but the injury isn't considered serious, and he totaled 170 yards receiving with 2 TDs on the day.

WR Joey Galloway continues to be sidelined by his groin injury (out on Friday's injury report), while fellow WR Keenan McCardell's agent has indicated that McCardell (barring a new contract, highly unlikely at this point in the game) will not report to the team until week 10 or 11 in the best case.
