Early Injury Report - Week 7


Quarterbacks

Buffalo's backup QB J.P. Losman missed the game on Sunday due to his broken leg, as expected.

Jacksonville's Byron Leftwich banged up his left shoulder and right ankle during the game on Sunday, but stayed in under center. He said after the game that "all I needed was about 30 seconds to get my pain tolerance to kick in and I would be all right." He is not expected to miss the next game.

Miami's Jay Fiedler played on Sunday despite his cracked ribs. After the game, coach Wannstedt indicated that he intends to keep starting Fiedler.

New England's Tom Brady took a vicious set of hits from two Seahawk defenders on Sunday, but insists that he was not injured as a result. He looked pretty shaky for a few minutes after being sandwiched between Chike Okeafor and Michael Boulware, though.

Oakland's Rich Gannon missed the game on Sunday, as expected (fractured C7 neck vertebrae, out on Friday's injury report). Four doctors, including Los Angeles spinal specialist Robert Watkins, have now told the 2002 NFL MVP that he should call an end to his 17-year NFL career, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Pittsburgh's Tommy Maddox missed the game on Sunday, as expected (elbow injury, out on Friday injury report).

Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger suffered a knee contusion during the game vs. Dallas, but stayed in the game (he iced the knee in between series). It's not a ligament issue where he twisted it but a bruise where he fell hitting his knee on the turf. The injury will be evaluated further as the week goes along, but doesn't look serious as of Monday.

Tennessee's Steve McNair aggravated his sore chest in the game on Sunday, but continued to play. He was very sore in his chest after the game.

Running Backs

Buffalo's Travis Henry missed the game on Sunday due to his injured foot, and Willis McGahee had a strong game in his absence. Henry was listed as questionable on Friday.

Carolina's DeShaun Foster (broken collarbone, out on Friday's injury report) and
Rod Smart (knee injury, out on Friday's injury report) missed the game on Sunday.

Dallas' Julius Jones remains sidelined by his broken shoulder blade, as expected. He was listed as out on Friday.

Detroit's FB Corey Schlesinger missed the game on Sunday, as expected (hamstring, doubtful on Friday's injury report). RB Kevin Jones returned to the lineup from his ankle sprain, but had very light duty on a day when the team got behind early and needed to throw the ball a ton.

Houston's starting FB Moran Norris (knee) missed the game on Sunday due to his injury (questionable on Friday's injury report).

Houston's Domanick Davis bruised his thigh during the game on Sunday. After the game he commented "It's nothing major, but it kept getting tight." Jonathan Wells played well in relief of Davis.

Jacksonville's LaBrandon Toefield missed the game on Sunday due to his sore knee (questionable on Friday).

Miami's Travis Minor missed the game on Sunday due to his injured ankle (he was listed as questionable on Friday).

Minnesota's Michael Bennett missed the game on Sunday due to his knee injury (surgically repaired meniscus in the process of healing).

New England's FB Patrick Pass injured his leg in the game on Sunday, and did not return to action. RB Rabih Abdullah was forced out of the game in the fourth quarter with an arm injury. The extent of the injuries is not currently known.

Oakland's Tyrone Wheatley's injured left shoulder kept him out of the game on Sunday, as expected. He has participated partially in practices of late, and is inching closer to a return.

Pittsburgh's Duce Staley tweaked an ankle Sunday night, but returned to action and isn't mentioned as injured in the post-game materials out of Pittsburgh. He has the bye-week to get 100% again.

San Francisco's Kevan Barlow banged up a shoulder, and fellow RB Terry Jackson dinged a toe - both are expected back to play vs. Chicago after the bye week.

Tennessee's Chris Brown suffered a brachial plexus injury, which involves nerves running down the right arm, and lost feeling in his arm until after the game on Sunday. He left the game and did not return to action. After the game, he indicated that the stinger isn't a major injury, in his opinion.

Washington's Clinton Portis had a sore neck after the team's win on Sunday. However, with a bye week ahead, he's expected to be fine in time for the team's next game.

Wide Receivers

Arizona's Anquan Boldin continues to be sidelined by his injury (knee surgery) - the team was on bye.

Carolina's Steve Smith continues to be sidelined by his injury (broken leg) - he was inactive for the game vs. Philly.

Cincinnati's WR Peter Warrick continues to be sidelined due to his injured shin (out on Friday's injury report).

Cleveland's WR Andre Davis sprained his left big toe in the game on Sunday. Coach Davis did not update his status after the game, saying that the injury would need further evaluation.

Detroit's Roy Williams dressed for the game, but did not play. The Lions wanted to be sure he did not aggravate his ankle injury, and thus held him out of the game. He was listed as questionable on Friday.

Green Bay's Robert Ferguson missed the game on Sunday due to ankle/knee injuries. He was listed as questionable on Friday. Javon Walker injured his ribs and his right shoulder early in the contest, and was in-and-out of the lineup for the rest of the game. After the game, Walker said that the shoulder injury was bothering him the most. He will be evaluated further this week.

Houston's Corey Bradford injured his groin in the game on Sunday - and did not return to action. The severity of the injury is not yet determined, and he will be evaluated further later in the week.

Minnesota's WR Randy Moss strained his right hamstring in the game on Sunday, and after briefly returning to play ended up on the sidelines in his civilian clothes during the second half. Coach Mike Tice listed Moss as "questionable" for the next game against the Titans. Moss will be reevaluated later today. Coach Tice commented after the game, "He's a fast healer. We'll see how it goes." He said on Monday that the strain was a "little worse than mild", and that the team would reevaluate Moss' status Friday or Saturday. Sounds like the dreaded "game-time" decision may be around the corner. We'll know more later this week but it's not looking good for week 7 as of Monday.

New England's Deion Branch continues to be sidelined by his injury (knee) - he was inactive on Sunday, as was fellow WR Troy Brown (shoulder). P.K. Sam also missed the game (groin, doubtful on Friday).

New Orleans' Talman Gardner was inactive on Sunday (ankle, questionable on Friday).

New York Jets' Santana Moss missed practice all week, and was inactive for the game on Sunday while being listed as questionable on the injury report on Friday.

Oakland's Ronald Curry and Doug Gabriel both pulled their hamstrings during the game Sunday - both players said afterward that the injuries do not appear to be serious. They will be evaluated further as the week goes by.

San Diego's Reche Caldwell left the game on Sunday with a knee injury, and did not return to action. Fellow WR Eric Parker tweaked an ankle. The severity of the injuries isn't currently known although Caldwell's looked to be serious. He was on crutches after the game but remains optimistic: "When I was falling somebody hit me from the side," Caldwell said. "My knee was up under me funny. Hopefully, I just sprained it."

San Francisco's Brandon Lloyd injured his calf during the game on Sunday. He's expected back to play the Bears after the bye week.

Seattle's WR Bobby Engram injured his left ankle in the first half of the game on Sunday, but returned to action. He will be evaluated further later in the week.

Tennessee's Tyrone Calico missed the game on Sunday, as expected (knee surgery, out). Drew Bennett confirmed to the Tennessean this past week that he has been playing with 2 broken ribs - keep that in mind, even though the team isn't bothering to list him on the injury report. Bennett said his cracked ribs from the preseason and early season are fine now and were not a factor in his performance yesterday - but he did drop several catchable balls...

Tight Ends

Atlanta's backup TE Eric Beverly was inactive for the game on Sunday, as expected.

Jacksonville's TE George Wrighster missed the game due to his bad back (doubtful on Friday).

Kansas City's TE Kris Wilson continues to miss games due to his leg/ankle injury (out on Friday's injury report).

Tennessee's TE Shad Meier had an emergency appendectomy on Sunday morning, and he'll miss the next 2-3 weeks while the incision in his abdomen heals. Fellow TE Erron Kinney (calf, out) missed the game, as expected. In Meier's absence, the team had only rookie TE Ben Troupe - all the 2-TE sets had to be scrapped.

Place Kickers

Miami's Olindo Mare was unable to play in the game on Sunday, and was replaced by well-traveled PK Matt Bryant.

Washington's PK John Hall missed the game on Sunday due to his injured groin. He was listed as out on Friday's injury report.

Punters

Seattle's P Tom Rouen missed the game on Sunday due to his injured right hamstring. He was questionable on Friday's injury report.

Offensive Linemen

Buffalo's C Trey Teague missed the game on Sunday due to his injured knee, as expected. He was listed as out on Friday. LT Jonas Jennings also missed the game due to an ankle injury, although some reports also mentioned a concussion (he was listed with an ankle injury on Friday's injury report).

Chicago's Gs Ruben Brown (knee, doubtful) and Rex Tucker (elbow, probable) were inactive for the game on Sunday due to their injuries.

Cleveland's RG Kelvin Garmon suffered a minor concussion and left the game, then returned to injure his left quadriceps. He'll be evaluated further later in the week. G Paul Zukauskas was inactive to rest an ailing knee, though he was not listed on the Friday injury report. LT Ross Verba has a strained groin, but played through the injury and expects to be 100% for the next game.

Green Bay's G Marco Rivera suffered a gash to his right biceps on Sunday, but only missed 2 plays. He won't need stitches, and the injury is considered minor right now.

Houston's right tackle Todd Wade (ankle, doubtful on Friday) and C Todd Washington (shoulder, probable) were inactive for the game on Sunday.

Miami's OT John St. Clair missed the game on Sunday due to his ankle and knee injuries, as expected. He was listed as out on Friday.

Minnesota's C Cory Withrow missed the game on Sunday due to his knee injury, as expected (he was listed as out on the Friday injury report).

New Orleans' Derrick Rodgers (ribs) was inactive for the game on Sunday (questionable on Friday's injury report).

New York Jets' RG Brandon Moore (hamstring, out on Friday's injury report) and G Pete Kendall (toe, out) both missed the game on Sunday, as expected. C Kevin Mawae continues to play despite a broken bone in his right hand.

Oakland's G Ron Stone (knee, doubtful on Friday's injury report) was inactive on Sunday due to his sore knee.

San Diego's C Nick Hardwick (knee, questionable on Friday) was inactive for the game on Sunday due to his injury.

San Francisco's C Jeremy Newberry missed the game on Sunday, as expected (knee, out on Friday). G Justin Smiley (knee) and T Scott Gragg (hip) were injured in the game, but both are expected to be back in the lineup after the bye week.

Tennessee's RG Benji Olson (groin, questionable) was inactive for the game on Sunday due to his injury.

Washington's T Kenyatta Jones (ankle, questionable) was inactive for the game on Sunday. LT Chris Samuels played through the pain of a sore ankle on Sunday.

Defensive Linemen

Atlanta's DT Chad Lavalais injured his left hand in the game on Monday, and did not return to action. DE's Karon Riley (stomach, out) and Travis Hall (shoulder, questionable) were inactive for the game due to their injuries. DT Rod Coleman missed the game due to knee and shoulder injuries from a car accident on Saturday

Carolina's DT Kris Jenkins missed the game on Sunday, as expected (shoulder injury, out on Friday's injury report). Fellow DE Mike Rucker left the game on Sunday with an irregular heartbeat, and did not return to action. He was evaluated further on Monday, and tests did not find a problem with his heart. DT Omari Jordan (ankle, questionable on Friday) was inactive for the game on Sunday.

Chicago's DT Alfonso Boone (knee, doubtful) was inactive for the game on Sunday. DE Adewale Ogunleye suffered a sprained right ankle in the game and was unable to continue. He'll be evaluated further as the week goes by.

Cincinnati's DT Matthias Askew was inactive for the game on Sunday, after being listed as probable (knee) on Friday's injury report.

Dallas' DE Greg Ellis twisted his right ankle at the end of the game on Sunday.

Denver's DE Trevor Pryce continues to be sidelined by his injury (back surgery) - he was inactive for the game vs. Oakland. He is targeting the October 31st game vs. Atlanta for his return.

Green Bay's DE R-Kal Truluck was inactive due to his sprained shoulder. He was not listed on Friday's injury report. DT Grady Jackson (knee) and James Lee (knee) were inactive due to their injuries, as expected (listed as out on Friday).

Jacksonville's DE Lionel Barnes has been put on IR due to a shoulder injury - he's done for the season. DT Willie Blades missed the game on Sunday due to his bad back (questionable on Friday).

Kansas City's DT Ryan Sims (hamstring) missed the game on Sunday due to his injury (questionable on Friday's injury report).

Pittsburgh's NT Casey Hampton is feared to have a serious problem after injuring his knee on Sunday. Coach Cowher indicated the injury will probably end Hampton's season. The initial diagnosis is a torn ACL.

San Diego's DE Dave Ball left the game on Sunday with a toe injury and did not return to action.

San Francisco's DEs Andrew Williams (lower leg fracture) and Andre Carter (back) were inactive on Sunday due to their injuries. DE Otis Leverette also missed the game (ankle, questionable on Friday).

Seattle's DE Grant Wistrom was knocked out of the game vs. New England by a hyper-extended knee late in the contest. The injury is not considered serious at this time, but he will be evaluated further later in the week.

Tennessee's DE Juqua Thomas (ankle, questionable on Friday) was inactive for the game on Sunday. DT Albert Haynesworth sprained an ankle (no word on the severity of the sprain).

Washington's DE Phillip Daniels (groin) missed the game on Sunday, as expected. He was inactive after being listed as out on Friday. NT Joe Salave'a's sore calf kept him out of the starting lineup, but he was not inactive (listed as probable on Friday's injury report).

Linebackers

Atlanta's LB Chris Draft was inactive on Sunday due to his toe injury (questionable on Friday's injury report). LB Keith Brooking continues to play through the pain of a hamstring strain, and play well.

Carolina's Mark Fields was inactive on Sunday due to his bad back (listed as questionable on Friday). He has missed multiple games due to this problem.

Cincinnati's Landon Johnson (he started at MLB this week) left the game after a blow to the head and did not return to action. Caleb Miller finished the game at MLB.

Cleveland's LB Barry Gardner missed the game on Sunday after missing all the team practices and being listed as doubtful on Friday.

Denver's Patrick Chukwurah (quadriceps, questionable) was inactive for the game on Sunday due to his injury.

Detroit's Boss Bailey (knee, out on Friday) missed the game on Sunday, as expected.

Green Bay's Paris Lenon injured his knee in the game on Sunday, and did not return to action. After the game, he said that the injury was "minor" and that he expects to practice this week.

Kansas City's Monty Beisel injured his knee (contusion) during the game on Sunday, but continued to play. He is also nursing a hip flexor injury, so Beisel is pretty banged up right now.

New York Jets' Sam Cowart (knee, out) missed the game on Sunday as expected.

Miami's LB Tony Bua (sore hamstring in past weeks) was inactive on Sunday, but was not listed on the injury report on Friday.

Minnesota's E.J. Henderson missed the game on Sunday due to his injured knee (out on Friday's injury report). Chris Claiborne aggravated his injured left calf in the game on Sunday, and was in a protective boot after the game. He did not return to action. His replacement in the lineup, Raonall Smith, suffered a concussion but came back to the game. The Viking's LB corps is pretty banged up right now.

Philadelphia's Mark Simoneau left the game briefly with a leg injury, and was limited in snaps in the second half of the game, but he did not leave the game.

Pittsburgh's Kendrell Bell (groin, out on Friday) was inactive for the game on Sunday, as expected. He has yet to play in the regular season.

San Diego's LB Randall Godfrey injured his ribs in the game on Sunday. The severity of the injury isn't currently known.

San Francisco's Derek Smith (leg/ankle, doubtful) is expected to miss 2-4 more weeks due to ligament damage in his ankle, and did not play on Sunday as expected. Fellow LB Saleem Rasheed (knee, doubtful on Friday) also missed the game. LB Brandon Moore hurt his ankle in the game, but is expected back in the lineup after the bye-week.

Seattle's Chad Brown remains sidelined by his broken leg, as expected. He was listed as out on the Friday injury report. Fellow LB Anthony Simmons bruised ribs on his right side but returned to the game.

Tennessee's Rocky Calmus (back, questionable on Friday) was inactive for the game on Sunday.

Washington's LBs LaVar Arrington (knee surgery) and Mike Barrow (knee tendonitis/tendon damage) missed the game on Sunday, as expected. Arrington was inactive after being listed as out on Friday. Barrow was listed as out, and missed his sixth straight game.

Defensive Backs

Atlanta's CB DeAngelo Hall continues to be sidelined by his injury (fractured hip) - he was inactive for the game vs. San Diego.

Buffalo's CB Troy Vincent (knee) was unable to play on Sunday, as expected.

Carolina's CB William Hampton missed the game on Sunday due to his injured knee.

Chicago's CB Charles Tillman continues to miss games due to his injured knee (listed as out on Friday's injury report). S Bobby Gray tweaked a knee in the game on Sunday but continued to play.

Cincinnati's CB Rashad Bauman (Achilles) and S Rogers Beckett (concussion) missed the game on Sunday, as expected (both were listed as out on the Friday injury report).

Denver's CB Lenny Walls dislocated his right shoulder for the second time in 6 weeks on Sunday, and is scheduled for a MRI to determine his status for the rest of the season. Right now, it doesn't look good for Walls - he may be lost for the season. Fellow CB Willie Middlebrooks (hamstring, doubtful on Friday) was inactive for the game.

Detroit's CB Andre Goodman (hamstring) was inactive for the game on Sunday, as expected (listed as doubtful on Friday). CB Fernando Bryant left the game for a time due to a sprained left ankle, but returned to action after staying on the sidelines until late in the game.

Houston's S Glenn Earl (hip, probable on Friday) was inactive for the game on Sunday. DB Jason Simmons was knocked out of the game due to a concussion he suffered when hitting Chris Brown. The severity of the brain trauma is not currently known - he'll be evaluated further later in the week. Often, side effects from concussions crop up days after the initial injury.

Kansas City's CB Julian Battle (Achilles) missed the game on Sunday due to his injury (questionable on the Friday injury report).

New Orleans' S Tebucky Jones suffered a laceration of his right pinky finger that required stitches during the game. CB Ashley Ambrose tweaked a knee during the game, but returned for the next defensive series - neither injury is considered serious at this time.

New England's CB Tyrone Poole aggravated his leg injury during the game on Sunday, and did not return to action. The same injury had sidelined him for the Miami game the week before.

New York Jets' DB Derrick Strait (foot, out on Friday's injury report) and S Rashad Washington (foot, out) missed the game on Sunday, as expected.

Philadelphia's DB Dexter Wynn was unable to play on Sunday due to his sore hamstring, and was inactive (listed as doubtful on Friday's injury report).

Pittsburgh's S Mike Logan (hamstring, out) missed the game on Sunday, as expected. Pittsburgh's CB Chad Scoot is feared to have a serious problem after injuring his knee on Sunday. Coach Cowher indicated the injury will probably end Scott's season. CB Ricardo Colclough missed most of the second half of the game due to cramps.

San Francisco's CB Mike Rumph missed the game on Sunday, as expected (broken arm, out - he's been placed on IR now). Fellow CB Ahmed Plummer bruised his thigh in the game on Sunday - he "is expected" to play in the next game vs. Chicago (after a bye week).

Tennessee's S Lance Schulters was inactive on Sunday due to his injury, as expected (out on Friday's injury report).

Washington's S Matt Bowen (knee, out) missed the game on Sunday, as expected. S Andre Lott also missed the game (hamstring, questionable on Friday). CB Fred Smoot reports a stinger in his left shoulder, and a separation in the right heading into the bye week. He stayed in the game, despite the injuries.
