Monday Injury Report - Week 8

Quarterbacks

Buffalo's backup QB J.P. Losman missed the game on Sunday due to his broken leg, as expected.

Green Bay's Brett Favre's throwing hand is swollen on Monday, due to banging it on a defender's helmet. The extent of the injury is not yet known, (initially it is being called a jammed wrist) and further tests are being run to determine the exact nature and severity of the injury. "I was able to throw," Favre said after the game. "It hurt the most taking the snap."

Miami's Jay Fiedler played on Sunday despite his cracked ribs. He also disputed a Fox report that he has a torn groin muscle: "I have a thigh injury that's been bothering me a little but not a torn groin."

St. Louis' Marc Bulger injured his throwing-arm shoulder in the game on Sunday, when Jason Taylor tackled Bulger and his shoulder slammed into the ground. Bulger reported the following about the training staff's examination: "They said it wasn't separated. They know exactly what happened, right at the spot that it's hurt. It's just an AC joint. ... I think the week off will help."

Tampa Bay's Chris Simms (shoulder) was inactive on Sunday - he was listed as questionable on Friday.

Tennessee's Steve McNair aggravated his sore chest in the game on Sunday, and was unable to continue to play this week (he managed to fight through a similar aggravation last week). It sounds like he may be missing some time in the coming weeks - "This is not going to heal in one or two weeks if I continue to go out there and play,'' McNair said. "I don't want to sit, but if I have to that's fine. We'll have to discuss that when we get to the evaluation. If I can't go out there and perform I'm not going to play". X-Rays and a MRI are scheduled to evaluate McNair.

Running Backs

Arizona's Josh Scobey missed the game on Sunday due to his injured knee, as expected (out on Friday's injury report).

Baltimore's Ovie Mughelli (hamstring, questionable on Friday) was inactive for the game on Sunday.

Carolina's Stephen Davis missed the game on Sunday due to his bum knee (doubtful on the Friday injury report). Brad Hoover carried the load for the Panthers on Sunday in the absence of Davis, Foster, and Smart (see below).

Carolina's DeShaun Foster (broken collarbone, out on Friday's injury report) and Rod Smart (knee injury, out on Friday's injury report) missed the game on Sunday. Foster needs surgery, the team announced on Monday, and is officially headed for IR.

Chicago's FB Jason McKie was carted off the field with a knee injury (sprain is the initial diagnosis) on Sunday. He will be evaluated further as the week goes by.

Dallas' Julius Jones remains sidelined by his broken shoulder blade, as expected. He was listed as out on Friday.

Detroit's FB Corey Schlesinger missed the game on Sunday, as expected (hamstring, doubtful on Friday's injury report). RB Kevin Jones was sidelined late in the game due to cramps in his calves. The problem is not considered serious - it was blamed on a lack of conditioning due to Jones missing games/practices due to his now-healed sprained ankle. (Artose Pinner did a good job in relief of Jones).

Green Bay's Ahman Green played through his Achilles injury on Sunday to good effect - he had a 90 TD run and a total of 163 yards rushing and 2 TDs.

Jacksonville's Chris Fuamatu Ma'afala was inactive on Sunday, despite being listed as probable on Friday (shoulder injury).

KC's Priest Holmes sprained his ankle and left the game on Sunday, and did not return to action. The team was shellacking the Falcons at that point, and though Holmes lobbied to return to the game, his backup Derrick Blaylock was performing well so the team rested him for the rest of the game. The injury does not appear serious.

KC FB Omar Easy left the game on Sunday with a strained hamstring.

New England's FB Patrick Pass was inactive on Sunday due to his injured thigh (questionable on Friday). FB Dan Klecko injured his right leg during the game - the nature and severity of the injury is currently not known.

Oakland's Tyrone Wheatley's injured left shoulder kept him out of the game on Sunday, as expected. Justin Fargas was also inactive (toe, questionable on Friday's injury report).

Philadelphia's Brian Westbrook left the game on Sunday with a bruised chest. The injury will be evaluated further as the week goes along, but doesn't look too serious as of Monday afternoon.

San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinson has a groin injury that is continuing to worsen as the season goes along. He was forced from the game on Sunday and Jesse Chatman carried the ball a lot in relief of Tomlinson. This looks like a situation that could cost Tomlinson substantial game time each week, if not a few games outright. Tomlinson owners should pay attention to how much he practices during the week (there are still 2 weeks to go before the San Diego bye week). Tomlinson's comments after the game: "Just taking some shots (hits) a few times has really aggravated it. I can't say it's the worst that it's felt, but it definitely didn't feel any better after this game."

Seattle's Shaun Alexander suffered an eye injury in the second quarter of the game on Sunday, but returned to action in the second half.

St. Louis' FB Arlen Harris was inactive for the game on Sunday due to his injured hamstring (questionable on Friday).

Tampa Bay's Mike Alstott injured his right knee on Sunday. Initial diagnosis ranged from a torn ACL to an MCL injury (extent unspecified). The team evaluated the injury further on Monday, and confirmed that the less serious diagnosis is correct - Alstott has a sprained MCL and willl miss at least 4 weeks of game-play.

Tampa Bay's Michael Pittman struggled with back spasms during the game on Sunday. FB Greg Comella (chest, questionable on Friday) was inactive for the game.

Wide Receivers

Arizona's Anquan Boldin continues to be sidelined by his injury (knee surgery) - he is expected back in the lineup soon, though.

Carolina's Steve Smith continues to be sidelined by his injury (broken leg) - he was inactive for the game on Sunday.

Cleveland's WR Andre Davis missed the game on Sunday due to his injured big toe (he was listed as questionable on Friday). His replacement in the lineup, Andre King, was injured in the game (lower left leg/ankle), and could not return to action. The injury appeared to be a non-contact injury. Frisman Jackson finished the game at the position.

Dallas' Quincy Morgan limped off the field with a pulled hamstring after catching 4/76/0 from Vinny Testaverde. He is called "day-to-day" as a result of the injury, and should replace Terry Glenn in the starting lineup (see below).

Dallas' Terry Glenn sprained his right foot in the first quarter of the game, and was unable to continue to play. He was not listed on the team's Friday injury report. The team said today that the sprain was "pretty severe", but will not require surgery. They expect Glenn to miss 2-3 weeks.

Detroit's Az-Zahir Hakim was inactive for the game on Sunday due to his ankle injury (he was listed as questionable on Friday's injury report).

Indianapolis' WRs Troy Walters (broken arm, out on Friday's report) and Brad Pyatt (ankle, questionable) were both inactive for the game on Sunday. Walters has yet to play this season.

Jacksonville's Jermaine Lewis (concussion, questionable on Friday's injury report) was unable to play this past Sunday, and was inactive for the game.

Minnesota's Randy Moss played only 2 snaps on Sunday, and did not make a catch. He looked very lame due to the pulled hamstring in his short appearance - Coach Tice indicated after the game that the injury hadn't improved during the week prior ("It was never un-aggravated"). Here's what the Minnesota press is saying as of Monday (startribune.com, 10/25/04). "Vikings receiver Randy Moss should see substantial playing time next Sunday against the New York Giants. That was the upshot of coach Mike Tice's decision to hold him out of all but two plays in the Vikings' 20-3 victory Sunday over Tennessee. Tice said Moss' strained right hamstring will not be 100 percent for another three weeks, but that it should improve enough to be a "legitimate participator" against the Giants." We'll keep you posted on his status as the week progresses.

New England's Deion Branch continues to be sidelined by his injury (knee, doubtful) - he was inactive on Sunday, as was fellow WR Troy Brown (shoulder, questionable).

New Orleans' WRs Talman Gardner (ankle) and Devery Henderson (hamstring) were both inactive on Sunday after being listed as questionable on Friday's final injury report.

New York Jets' WR Santana Moss finally played a game on Sunday, but he looked slowed by his continuing hamstring woes. Keep an eye on his status heading into the next game.

Seattle's WR Bobby Engram was unable to play in the game on Sunday (he was listed as questionable on Friday) due to his injured ankle. D.J. Hackett was inactive due to his injured hip (doubtful on Friday's report). Koren Robinson looks poised to begin a self-inflicted 4-game suspension very soon, due to league action (3rd violation of the NFL drug-abuse guidelines).

St. Louis' Dane Looker injured his ankle in the game on Sunday, and missed part of the game. When he did return to action, it was as holder for place-kicks - he didn't chase any more passes on Sunday. He has the upcoming bye-week to heal his sore ankle.

Tampa Bay's WRs Joey Galloway (groin, out) and Charles Lee (knee, out) were both inactive for the game on Sunday, as expected.

Tennessee's Tyrone Calico missed the game on Sunday, as expected (knee surgery, out). Baltimore's LT Jonathan Ogden suffered a severe hamstring pull in his left leg on Sunday. He is expected to miss next week's game vs. Philadelphia, at a minimum - he will be evaluated further as the week goes along, and a MRI is scheduled for later on Monday. The Ravens had a hard time running the ball effectively earlier this season when Ogden was sidelined with another injury, so this is a big concern for Chester Taylor/Jamal Lewis owners. RT Orlando Brown missed part of the game with a broken left index finger. T Ethan Brooks broke his thumb in the game (both Brown and Brooks expect to play this weekend in spite of their injuries). C Mike Flynn, whom the team was hoping to get back this week, missed the game on Sunday after being listed as doubtful on Friday (collarbone). Baltimore's OL is beat up right now.
