Monday Injury Report - Week P3

Quarterbacks

There were no new injuries of note among the QBs to report on teams advancing after this past weekend's games.

Running Backs

No new injuries of note to report.

Wide Receivers

Philadelphia's Terrell Owens (broken ankle, out on Friday's injury report) missed the conference championship game, as expected. The team hopes he can return to active status in time for the Super Bowl - coach Reid put it this way: "Every day he's making progress. We'll see how he does this next week; if he can put a little bit more pressure on that thing running-wise. You saw him down there walking around ... jumping around, actually. We'll see how he does." Some reports citing "a highly placed Eagle's source" are in circulation suggesting that Owens will see 30-40 plays as the team's #3 WR during the Super Bowl.

Tight Ends

Philadelphia's TE Chad Lewis, who snagged 2 TDs during Sunday's NFC conference championship game, will miss the Super Bowl due to a severe foot injury (Lis Franc sprain) that requires surgery. The procedure is scheduled for Wednesday. L.J. Smith (who has struggled with a sore back at times this season) will take over Lewis' starting spot, and the Eagles are looking for another TE to add to the roster for the Super Bowl.

Offensive Linemen

No new injuries of note to report.

Defensive Linemen

New England's DE Richard Seymour (injured left knee, probably a MCL sprain, but no confirmation from the Patriots on the exact nature of the injury) missed the team's conference championship game on Sunday due to his bad knee. He was listed as questionable on Friday's injury report. Despite comments that coach Belichick made on Friday that Seymour might be used in "situations" during the game, Seymour was inactive. Reports out of New England on Monday indicate that he wasn't even close to being able to play, leading many to speculate that coach Belichick's Friday comments were intended to deceive Pittsburgh's coaching staff. Wrote Michael Felger of the Boston Herald "The scratch marked the four-week mark since Seymour originally hurt his knee against the Jets on Dec. 26, and his absence further bolstered reports that Seymour suffered a tear of the MCL. Seymour's last chance to play this year will come at the Super Bowl. On Friday, Belichick said there was a chance that Seymour could be used situationally. It's possible that was a smokescreen after nose tackle Keith Traylor said earlier in the week the Pats were "going to miss" Seymour against the Steelers."

Linebackers

Philadelphia's LB Mark Simoneau suffered an ankle injury during the season finale vs. Cincinnati, and has yet to play in a game since. He missed the conference championship after being listed as questionable on Friday.

Defensive Backs

New England's S Rodney Harrison went in and out of the game on Sunday as the trainers treated his dinged up shoulder and leg - but he made huge plays on the field despite his nagging injuries, including the key interception of Roethlisberger that he returned for a TD, putting the Patriots up 24-3 before the half.
