Quarterbacks:
San Francisco's Tim Rattay left the game vs. Atlanta on Sunday after
taking a big hit that left his throwing arm shoulder sore and his head
woozy. However, when Ken Dorsey was also injured (shoulder) during the
game, Rattay returned to action. The severity of the shoulder injuries
aren't currently known, and both players will be evaluated further as
the week progresses.
St. Louis' Marc Bulger jammed his left index finger on Sunday, but
continued to play. The injury is not considered serious at this time.
Running Backs
Buffalo's Travis Henry left the game on Sunday with cramps.
Chicago's FB Bryan Johnson bruised his right shoulder in the game on
Sunday, but returned to action. The injury is not considered serious
at this time.
Cleveland's Lee Suggs was inactive for Sundays' game due to a neck
stinger. He is suffering from a spinal column condition that makes him
susceptible to stingers, and the Browns are approaching the situation
with caution.
Dallas' Richie Anderson landed hard out of bounds near the end of the
game and may have sprained his knee. The severity of the sprain is not
currently known, and Anderson will be evaluated further as the week
goes along.
Miami's running back stable is thinning rapidly, as RBs Sammy Morris
and Travis Minor both sprained ankles in the loss to the Titans and
did not return to action. Coach Wannstedt declined comment on the
pair's status after the game. The injuries seem to put Lamar Gordon in
the starting lineup for the next game, at least.
Miami's FB Rob Konrad missed the week 1 game due to an infection in
his thigh. He declined to comment on the problem after the game.
Minnesota's Moe Williams left the Dallas game in the fourth quarter
with a sprained ankle. The degree of sprain is unknown at this time -
he'll be evaluated further as the week progresses.
San Francisco's starting FB Fred Beasley continues to be sidelined by
his left ankle sprain. No time-frame for his return was mentioned
after the game on Sunday. Matt Stanley was promoted from practice
squad and backed up Jason Isom at the position while Beasley was
sidelined.
Seattle's Shaun Alexander suffered a right knee sprain in the victory
over New Orleans. ESPN is indicating that a radio report from Seattle
says Alexander could miss 1-2 weeks although official word from the
team has not been released as of Monday afternoon.
Tennessee's Chris Brown sprained his left ankle in the game vs. Miami
and did not return to play in the second half. Coach Fisher reported
on Sunday that the ankle was improving, but that more tests would be
done to evaluate the injury.
Wide Receivers
Baltimore's Travis Taylor re-injured his groin and missed the second
half of action on Sunday. The extent of the aggravation isn't
currently known - the injury will be evaluated further, and an MRI is
scheduled.
Detroit's Charles Rogers has again broken his collarbone, in a
different place than the fracture that cost him most of 2003. Coach
Mariucci indicated that the injury was going to sideline Rogers "long
term". On Monday, Mariucci stated that Rogers was to undergo surgery
to repair the break and that he would be placed on IR, lost for
another season.
Oakland's Ronald Curry cramped up during the game Sunday and was
sidelined. The condition is not considered serious.
Tampa Bay's Joey Galloway aggravated a groin injury stretching out for
a ball in the end-zone. His status for the game against Seattle is
described by head coach Gruden as "not good" - after the injury,
Galloway had to use crutches to stand on the sidelines. He is out
indefinitely. The team reported Monday that Galloway has a torn left
groin that will require 4-6 weeks of rest, minimum.
Tennessee's #3 WR Tyrone Calico has been able to jog on his scoped
knee and is improving, although the Titans continue to term Calico
"questionable" to play this week.
Tight Ends
No significant injuries to tight ends over the first week of games to
report.
Kickers
No significant injuries to place kickers over the weekend to report.
Offensive Lineman
Baltimore's OL limped into the week 1 game, with center Mike Flynn
(shoulder) and tackle Jonathan Ogden (knee) sidelined. Flynn is not
expected back this week, either, and Ogden is iffy. Given how poorly
the team was able to move the ball/protect Kyle Boller (3 sacks) on
Sunday, the team needs Flynn and Ogden back on the OL. In addition to
the starters' woes, replacement LT Ethan Brooks injured a knee late in
the loss and will have an MRI/further evaluation as the week goes on.
Cincinnati Bengal's Center Rich Braham started but had to leave the
game in the second quarter because of soreness in his knee. Braham had
arthroscopic surgery less than two weeks ago - his status for the week
2 game is not currently known.
Dallas' OL was dealt a series of blows in the game vs. Minnesota: OG
Andre Gurode sprained his left MCL and may be sidelined for several
weeks. Center Tyson Walter also sprained his left knee, but the injury
is not considered as serious as Gurode's at this time. The Cowboys
were down to only Kurt Vollers as a backup lineman during the final
minutes of the game.
Miami's OT John St. Clair reports that X-Rays on his injured ankle
came back negative and that he should be just fine going into the next
game.
The New York Giants' backup OL Wayne Lucier injured his shoulder
during the game on Sunday. His status is currently unknown.
Oakland's LG Frank Middleton cramped up in the game on Sunday, and
rookie OL Robert Gallery replaced him during the game. The cramping is
not considered a serious injury.
Philadelphia's starting RG Shawn Andrews broke his right leg in the
game Sunday, and will require surgery to repair the injury. He is out
for the season.
Tampa Bay's backup RT Kenyatta Walker was icing a swollen right knee
after the game on Sunday - he was inactive during the game. The
inflammation has been flaring up throughout training camp.
Tennessee's starting LG Zach Piller ruptured his left biceps in the
game on Saturday and is likely to miss the season if he elects to have
the injury surgically repaired. He is seeking a second opinion, but is
likely out for the year.
Defensive Lineman
Arizona's DE Calvin Pace suffered a stinger in the game vs. St. Louis.
He's expected to play as usual this week (remember that stingers tend
to recur once a person has suffered one, though).
Baltimore's NT Kelly Gregg injured a knee in the game on Sunday, and
will be examined further as the week progresses.
Cleveland's DT Gerard Warren strained a pectoral muscle in the first
quarter during the game on Sunday. The severity of the injury is
unclear at this time.
Detroit's DE James Hall fractured his left thumb during the game on
Sunday. His status for the coming weeks is not yet known.
Jacksonville's LDT Marcus Stroud was X-rayed for bruised ribs after
the game vs. Buffalo. The severity of the injury is not currently
known.
Kansas City's DE Vonnie Holliday (groin injury) and DE Eric Hicks
(right ankle sprain) were injured in the loss to Denver. Both players
will be evaluated further later in the week - their status is not
currently known.
Miami's DT Tim Bowens declined comment on his injured back after
missing the week 1 game vs. Tennessee due to the injury.
New Orleans' DT Brian Young left the game in the 3rd quarter with a
left hip flexor injury and did not return to action.
New Orleans' DE Darren Howard (neck) missed the game on Sunday and his
status for week 2 is in doubt.
Philadelphia's DE Jevon Kearse tweaked his right ankle during the game
vs. New York, but wasn't seriously injured. The injury is considered
minor at this time.
San Diego Chargers' defensive end Adrian Dingle did not play in the
second half because of a quad strain, and defensive end Dave Ball hurt
a shoulder. The players will be reevaluated today.
St. Louis' DE Anthony Hargrove sustained a mild concussion on the
opening kickoff on Sunday. He returned to the action later in the day.
Linebackers
Chicago's LB Brian Urlacher had his sore hamstring iced after the
game, but didn't miss a down during the game.
Cincinnati's stable of young LB's was lessened when rookie's Caleb
Miller (left ankle) and Landon Johnson (ankle) were injured during the
game. Johnson returned to action, but Caleb Miller was on crutches
after the game and had his left ankle heavily wrapped. The injuries
will be evaluated further later in the week.
Cincinnati's LB Brian Simmons sat out the week 1 game due to his
injured knee, but the team is hopeful that Simmons can return for week
2 action.
New Orleans' MLB Courtney Watson left the game Sunday due to leg
cramps. The condition is not considered serious.
The New York Giants' LB Carlos Emmons injured his groin during the
game on Sunday. His status is currently unknown.
Philadelphia's LB Nate Wayne was sidelined due to a hamstring injury
during the week 1 game.
Pittsburgh's ILB Kendrell Bell missed the game on Sunday due to groin
and shoulder injuries. His availability for this week is unknown as of
Monday.
San Diego's linebacker Ben Leber injured his foot on Sunday. He'll be
re-evaluated today.
San Francisco's LB Julian Peterson suffered a hip pointer in the game
on Sunday. He is probable to start next week's game.
St. Louis' LBs Trev Faulk (torn hamstring) and Pisa Tinoisamoa
(dislocated right shoulder) were injured in the game on Sunday.
Tinoisamoa returned to action wearing a harness, but may be
unavailable for some time while he works on healing the shoulder,
according to coach Martz. An MRI is scheduled to further evaluate this
injury. Faulk's torn hamstring is likely to sideline him for several
weeks.
Washington's LB Mike Barrow was sidelined in week 1 due to a knee
injury. His status for the week 2 game is unknown.
Defensive Backs
Baltimore's starting RCB Gary Baxter injured his hand in the game on
Sunday. The webbing was split, then stitched up. Baxter returned to
action after the stitches.
Cincinnati's S Rogers Beckett was forced to leave the game after a
blow to his head, the second time during 2004 that a head injury has
sidelined Beckett. The severity of this head injury isn't currently
known.
Cincinnati's CB Deltha O'Neal missed the game on Sunday due to an
ankle injury, but is expected to play in the week 2 game vs. Miami.
Denver's CBs Lenny Walls (shoulder injury) and Kelly Herndon (leg
cramps) were forced from the Sunday night game.
Denver CB Champ Bailey had a cut on his chin that required stitches.
He returned to action after having the cut stitched up, and the injury
is not considered serious at this time.
Detroit's starting RCB Dre Bly sprained a ligament in his knee in the
game, will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to further evaluate the injury.
Coach Mariucci is "hoping" that it's not a serious injury. On Monday
the team indicated that Bly would probably miss the next two games.
Indianapolis' starting S Mike Doss injured his hamstring early in the
game on Thursday, and may miss at least three weeks, according to
initial reports. Donald Strickland may slide over into Doss' spot
while he recuperates.
Kansas City's CB William Bartee suffered a concussion and a sprained
neck in the loss to Denver. His injuries will be evaluated further
later in the week - post-concussion syndrome can be tricky to deal
with, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see Bartee miss some time due to
this injury. Fellow DB's CB Eric Warfield (left knee bruise) and S
Greg Wesley (right hamstring strain) have injuries to nurse to start
week 2. They will also be evaluated further later in the week.
Minnesota's DBs took two hits to the secondary's depth during week 1.
Third cornerback Ken Irvin, who was scheduled to start because Brian
Williams was nursing a knee injury, ruptured his right Achilles'
tendon as he backpedaled. Backup DB Rushen Jones also suffered a chest
bruise during the game, forcing him out of the lineup. Ken Irvin is
done for the season. The severity of Jones' injury isn't currently
known.
New Orleans' CB Jason Craft missed the game on Sunday due to a
sprained left ankle. His status for the coming game is unclear as of
Monday.
Philadelphia's CB Lito Sheppard broke his right thumb during the game,
but returned to action and indicated after the game that he believed
he could play in the week 2 game despite the injury.
Pittsburgh's S Ainsley Battles left the game on Sunday with an ankle
injury. The severity of the injury is not currently known.
San Francisco's CB Mike Rumph injured his groin in the first half of
the game Sunday and did not return to action. Rumph is doubtful for
the week 2 game as of Monday.
San Francisco's CB Ahmed Plummer strained his neck in the game on
Sunday, and is probable for the next game.
St. Louis' cornerback Aeneas Williams limped off the field after a
lineman fell on the back of his calf on Sunday, but was able to resume
play. Cornerback Jerametrius Butler dislocated two fingers but stayed
in the game - neither DB is considered to have a serious injury.
