We have all done it. Sometimes because we can. Sometimes because we are dying to see the last few minutes of the game. And most of the time we do it just because we are men. Presented below are some favorite male catch phrases and their likely translation:

"I'M GOING FISHING"
Means: "I'm going to hang out with other obnoxious men, drink myself dangerously stupid, and stand by a stream with a stick in my hand, while the fish swim by in complete safety."

"JUST GOING TO HANGOUT WITH THE GUYS"
Means: "Direct TV, Strippers, Nachos and Beer and you are not invited."

IT'S A GUY THING"
Means: "There is no rational thought pattern connected with it, and if I gave a damn I would agree it was stupid too."

"I WAS LISTENING TO YOU. IT'S JUST THAT I HAVE THINGS ON MY MIND"
Means: "How can I possibly listen to you and juggle my ten fantasy rosters at the same time."

"TAKE A BREAK HONEY, YOU'RE WORKING TOO HARD"
Means: "I can't hear the game over the vacuum cleaner."

"CAN I HELP WITH DINNER?"
Means: "Why isn't it already on the table?"

"THAT'S INTERESTING, DEAR"
Means: "She needs a hobby...She talks more than Madden"

"HEY, I'VE GOT MY REASONS FOR WHAT I'M DOING"
Means: "And I sure hope I think of some pretty darn soon."

"UH HUH," "SURE, HONEY," OR "YES, DEAR..."
Means: Absolutely nothing. It's a conditioned response.

"IT WOULD TAKE TOO LONG TO EXPLAIN"
Means: "I have no idea how it works."

"I CAN'T FIND IT"
Means: "It didn't fall into my outstretched hands and I am not going to miss the game searching for it."

"WHAT DID I DO THIS TIME?"
Means: "How come in real life I can't call a timeout trying to ice the wife?"

"I HEARD YOU"
Means: "I haven't the foggiest clue what you just said, and am hoping desperately that I can fake it well enough so that I can keep watching this game"

"YOU KNOW I COULD NEVER LOVE ANYONE ELSE"
Means: "I am used to the way you yell at me, and realize it could be worse."

"YOU LOOK TERRIFIC"
Means: "Please don't block the TV showing me another outfit."

"YOU KNOW HOW BAD MY MEMORY IS"
Means: "I remember every third down back in the NFL, every team that runs a 4-3 defense, but I forgot your birthday."

"I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT YOU, AND GOT YOU THESE ROSES"
Means: "The girl selling them on the corner was a real babe."

"YOU SHOULD GET A SWEATER LIKE THAT"
Means: "I can't get enough of Melissa Stark in those sweaters."
