WR Chris Chambers (Mia)

Highest Ranking: #8 by Chris Smith
Being a big Dolphin fan, I watched almost every game for the Fins last season. There were a couple of things that really stood out in regards to the passing attack. The first was that the veteran receivers really needed a case of "Stick-Em" in order to help them actually hold onto the football. The second was that Chris Chambers was probably the steal of the entire draft a season ago. He is big, strong, fast and sure handed and he quickly became Fiedler's favorite target on the field.

This season, the Dolphins have a running threat with Ricky Williams lining up in the backfield and Fiedler is another year wiser. Chambers was good as a rookie and is ready to become great this season. The fact is he is the Dolphins only big-time receiving threat and he will have a bunch of balls thrown his way in 2002. He will be thought of as one of the biggest steals in this year's fantasy drafts so target picking him up in round 4. He had 30 receptions for 553 yards and 7 touchdowns over the final 9 games last year. Pretty good for a rookie receiver and those numbers will be even stronger.

I think Chamber is bound to have some huge games this year. However, I see Miami pounding the heck out of Ricky Williams and playing some serious smash mouth football. Every now and then they will send Chambers deep to make a big play. He will probably even get a couple huge plays in more than one game, but will also disappear in other games.

Other factors dragging Chambers down on my lists are McNight and Gadsden. I won't be surprised if any of the three leads Miami in catches. I expect Chambers to score some long TDs this year and also lead the team in yardage, but if all three of the Miami WRs stay healthy none of them will be #1 or even #2 WRs on your fantasy roster.

The last strike against Chambers is Jay Fiedler. If he had a more consistent passer on his team I would push up my list quite a bit. Who would feel comfortable with Fiedler as their starting fantasy QB? He doesn't play in a system that's going to allow for huge games by his WRs week in and week out. Miami will be grinding it out and winning with their defense.
