WR Kevin Dyson (Ten)

High Side by Chris Smith
Dyson was slow out of the gate last year after his 2000 season-ending knee injury. However once the rust wore off and the knee strengthened he began to display the ability that had him picked first in his draft ahead of Randy Moss. Now, don't get me wrong, as he'll never be as explosive as a Moss is on the field. Quarterback Steve McNair has finally blossomed into the type of player the Titans (then the Oilers) envisioned when they made him a first round pick. McNair can now get the ball to his receivers and in the new division they reside in, there should be lots of opportunity to pass the ball.

Dyson had 547 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns over the final eight games a year ago. That doesn't always mean a receiver will keep the production going like it was but when a player is coming back from major injury, an improvement in the second half of the season does mean something. It means that he is back at full speed and Dyson, who was due for a break out season in 2000 and looked poised to do it, is now ready to become the go-to guy in the Titans passing attack. Both he and Derrick Mason are good receivers and breaking 1000 yards will happen for both players. He'll end up with over 1100 yards receiving and 9 touchdowns.

Kevin Dyson just missed my WR ranking and was the next player on my list so although he didn't make my rankings he was very close. Even so, some have him ranked as high as 15 which places him up around guys like Keyshawn Johnson and that just doesn't sit well with me. I like Kevin Dyson as a filler WR as his numbers have yet to really be spectacular. He is an average WR with average opportunity in an average WR system against average secondaries. To me, that makes him very average but a decent pickup later in your draft. I also think Derrick Mason will be an absolute monster this season and Eddie George will be back to form which will hurt Kevin Dyson's opportunities. Overall I'll give Dyson an average-plus rating for this season as I do like the guy but anything higher than around 30, which places him around the bottom #1 WRs and upper #2 WRs, doesn't make much sense to me as Kevin Dyson is an upper #2 WR.
