WR Terry Glenn (GB)

Highest Ranking: #10 by Mark Wimer
Who else is there catching the ball at wide receiver in Green Bay, besides Terry Glenn and second year prospect Robert Ferguson? Corey Bradford, last year's #3 wide out is a starter for the Texans, and Antonio Freeman is very likely to be a June 1st cut. Bill Schroeder is in Detroit. Look at Brett Favre's passing statistics over the past three years:

1999 GB 341 of 595 for 4091 yards and 22 td's.
2000 GB 338 of 580 for 3812 yards and 20 td's.
2001 GB 314 of 510 for 3921 yards and 32 td's.

Glenn must know that this is his last chance to play for a NFL team. He has undeniable physical skills, and one of the best quarterbacks in the league pitching him the ball. The Packers need Glenn to play well, and Glenn needs to play well to stay in the league. A comeback season for Glenn is on the horizon. Barring injury (or a felony arrest and prosecution), Glenn is practically a lock for 1100-1300 yards and 10+ td's.

When I ranked the players, Freeman had not yet been released (and still hasn't, as I write this). There was talk about him refusing to restructure, but who thought Green Bay would get rid of one-half of one of the most productive QB/WR tandems in NFL history? It looks like they will. But even then, I still don't like Glenn.

Let's look at this. Freeman is expendable because he has been declining in production the past 2 seasons. Why would Glenn be better than Freeman?

Age? Glenn is only one year younger.

Stats? Playing for Bledsoe, Glenn's best totals are 1147 Yards and 6 TDs (not even in the same season). He has 22 TDs to Freeman's 57. Freeman once pulled in 87 catches for 1424 yards and 14 TD for and amazing 17 YPC average.

Durability? Nah. Teresa has only finished a season once. Freeman has only played less than 15 games in a season once.

Intangibles? Are you joking? Glenn is a head case who the Big Tuna considered a woman.

I am just not fond of a fragile, head case player who is "rebuilding" his career by switching franchises. I may be way off on this one, but until things shape up in camp, with Green (the leading receiver in number of receptions the past 2 seasons), Driver, Ferguson, Javon Walker, and Franks all looking for passes, I will reserve judgment on Glenn. I am willing to revisit this later after June 1st and again during camp, but I refuse to jump on this bandwagon in May.
