We will readily admit that we take a lot less structured approach to the Pre-season.  We offer a wide range of information, but also remain flexible to cool things that our staff wants to do.  The In-season items have to be more structured because they are due at certain times each week.  The Pre-Season info by definition can be done anytime before the season starts.  Here is a list of the items we know we are going to do in the Pre-season.

Items completed before August 1st will be free.  Items posted after August 2nd will be for subscribers only.  Most products will be introduced before August 1st, but will updated throughout the preseason.

Pre-Season Features for 2002

Articles:  http://footballguys.com/articles.htm

One of the biggest features Footballguys.com has during the preseason is the wealth of fresh new articles.  Because of our active message boards, we are consistently able to find fresh new talent and new angles.  Our articles generally are more mathematical in nature than most fantasy sites (graphs, statistical observations/analysis).  Where as most fantasy sites are talking about Sleeper lists in an article, we are generally writing about the Principles of Value Based Drafting.  Of course we also do the Sleepers and Rookie articles too.

A lot of last year’s articles will be dusted off and made fresh.this season.  This requires minimal effort but makes popular articles timely.   In total we will likely publish 60-80 articles during the preseason covering a wide variety of topics.

Improvements in 2002:

-         Many new faces bringing new ideas to the table.

-         More humor articles

-         A commissioner series by Tom Nadratowski and Mark Wimer

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sortable Projections:  http://footballguys.com/qbproj.cfm (We have included just the one URL, but all other projections, including team views can be seen from this page).

Just about everything we do at Footballguys.com is placed into databases so that we can provide the info in sortable formats.  We pride ourselves that our projections have statistically been close to the best among fantasy sites every year.  We build these paying special attention to statistical norms within the NFL and team dynamics.  Our team view also shows the world that our numbers “add” up (QB production = WR production for example).  This is important because the vast majority of sites numbers do not add up.

All good sites have projections, but Footballguys.com has the ones you need.  A lot of what we do tracks back to the numbers derived in these projections.

These projections are the most viewed pages on the website in August.

Improvements in 2002:

- Name will link to player pages (3 years of stats, pro/con analysis, 2002 outlook, rankings integration) – These will be completed within a week of the completed Survivor Draft.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sortable Expert Rankings:  http://footballguys.com/qbrank.cfm  (all position pages and an overall exist)

6 separate Expert Polls (May, June, July, twice in August and once in September) will be created this season.  We will include between 9-14 Experts and also include the Message Board tallies (which can represent another 20-50 people ranking).

This is one of the most popular features on the site.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sortable Stats:  http://footballguys.com/qbstats00.cfm  Most good sites have past stats, but we have highlighted the categories that mean something to the fantasy football player.  Included in this is fantasy points and fantasy points per game.

Improvements in 2002:

-         IDP Sortable Stats

-         Team Sortable Stats

-         Consistency Scores

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Salaries:  http://footballguys.com/salaries.cfm  About a week after USA Today releases this data, we generate a salaries database which is both helpful to predict possible releases and generally just fun to know what everyone is making.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Depth Charts:

http://footballguys.com/depthchart.htm

http://footballguys.com/defdepthchart.htm

These will be maintained through the preseason and in-season.  Ours are different in that they run via Javascript.  This allows for easy toggling between teams.

Improvements in 2002:

-         A view/print all option

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Email Updates/Late Breaking Updates:

http://footballguys.com/updatearchives.htm

These will begin again on June 15th and be mailed out daily throughout the entire preseason.  This is essentially our news page and is our prominent feature at Footballguys.com.  We have many Experts lined up to do these an they remain the best in the business by a long shot.

We saw our email list grow from 13,000 names to 32,000+ last year and expect further growth as the word spreads about the quality of this daily email.  In addition to the daily email, we also send approximately 40-80 late breaking news items as soon as we hear the news.  These are news stories that have significant effect to fantasy drafts (trades, injuries, arrests, etc)

We believe these emails are the piece that has brought our community together.  These are the reason Footballguys.com is where it’s at today and will continue to be the lifeblood of future years efforts:

Improvements in 2002:

-         Better coverage of late breaking news with more people able to send emails

-         More doctor information regarding injuries

Links:

http://footballguys.com/ezlinks.htm

http://footballguys.com/teamlinks/ari/links.htm (all teams exist)

Footballguys.com spent a great deal of time creating the best fantasy football links on the net.  The reason for this is simple.  By creating a place where you can easily get to everything else fantasy football, people bookmark you and start their fantasy day with your information.  These will be gone through thoroughly in the next three weeks to keep current.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Message Boards:  http://footballguystalk.com  These basically run themselves, but require administrators to keep people in check.  Many great article ideas have spawned from these boards.  This community is invaluable to us as both a means to find more talent, expand on ideas, and generally continue moving the site forward each season.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NFL Schedule:

http://footballguys.com/schedule02.htm

http://footballguys.com/2002sked.htm

We publishing two versions each year catering to the fantasy player.  The first is an interactive one that allows you to toggle between teams and weeks.  This is very handy as a reference.  The second is just a one page look at all games.  This is nice too as a printout for quick reference.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VBD App (Customized Spreadsheet): http://footballguys.com/download.htm

Others have copied this, but we clearly have the best Excel App for generating customized worksheets.  Subtle differences include years of tweaking the VBD formulas to get the right answer regarding flex positions, tight end included with receivers, etc.  Our application also is fully integrated with auction leagues.  This program is complete as is, but is updated throughout the season with new projections each week.  We will release our first version for 2002 around June 20th.

Improvements in 2002:

-         Ken Maxwell is finishing up the Online version of this app

-         Increased scoring options

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commentary Analysis Draft – Survivor Style

http://footballguys.com/survivorall.cfm (click on the players name for a full writeup)

This was our answer to FanEx’s Analysis Draft.  What makes it different from every mock draft out there is the entrants all do write-ups (pros and cons) for each player.  This became a very popular feature this year and was relatively simple to do.  A variation of these write-ups will also be linked to both the rankings and projections pages by name.  This feature will begin in a few weeks.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inside the Stats:

http://www.footballguystalk.com/insidestats/

We believe we offer the best fantasy stats munching program on the web.  Ken Maxwell continues to tweak this.

Improvements in 2002:

-         IDP Numbers

-         User defined Fantasy Points

-         Team Stats

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Top 200 Lists:

http://www.footballguys.com/top200.htm

Using our VBD App, we are able to easily generate a series of Top 200 lists (basic, performance).  These are very popular as many people simply print these out and draft from them.

Improvements in 2002:

-         Lists for all of the favorite contests (Sporting News, Smallworld, ESPN, etc)

-         Add average draft position to our lists

-         Add up/down arrows to show movement from last list

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Target Info:

http://www.footballguys.com/wrtarget2001.cfm

-         This is a feature  we are able to carry into the preseason because of the work we do going through the logs each week.  These are some of the most sought after stats available to fantasy football players.  Stats, Inc also generates these numbers, but they are not readily available to the public.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Free Agents:

http://www.footballguys.com/freeagents.htm

-         We have been keeping up with the signings all off-season.  This is a very good list to come up to speed on the changes for 2002.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

More Pre-Season Additions for 2002

Player Capsules from Doug Drinen.  Doug Drinen, a statistical fantasy legend on par with Bill James for baseball, will be providing us with approximately 80 player capsules this year.  Many involve detailed statistical analysis.  He has completed about 20% of these, but wants to release all at once for effect.  Will likely be released in Mid-August.

Online Customized Cheatsheet.  This will become the standard for online cheatsheets.  It is built from the same formulas used in our extremely popular VBD Excel App.  Ken Maxwell is in the lab completing this now.

Trade Calculator.  Pull down lists of players to compare if a trade is fair or not.  This feature will be ready by mid-July.

Pre-Season Game Recaps.  Each game will be broken down for potential fantasy information.

Rookie Sheet.  This feature  will link up the best info on the web regarding this year’s crop of rookies.  Also will feature Tom Nadratowski’s formulas evaluating potential for fantasy impact.
