Cincinnati 27 at Baltimore 38

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Cincinnati Bengals:

Corey Dillon played well getting big gains and plowing up the gut for 102 yards. Dillon also showed the ability to make the catch and pick up yards as he had 5 catches for 48 yards.

Jon Kitna was decent but threw critical interceptions that allowed Baltimore to get the lead. Kitna spread the ball out to 10 different receivers and was able to find the open receiver.

Chad Johnson came alive during the game, as he was in sync with Kitna getting 7 catches for 110 yards and a TD. Johnson exploded past the defensive back for the 39-yard TD.

Baltimore Ravens:

Jamal Lewis gained 135 yards on 21 carries and just couldn't be stopped as he plowed deep into the defense and broke several runs for big gains.

Jeff Blake was given a soft zone coverage by the Bengals and just shredded the defense apart hitting everywhere underneath and picking the spots to get deep. Blake only had 183 yards and a TD because of the success of the run game.

Travis Taylor played up to his potential as he got 7 catches for 52 yards and a TD underneath the defense.

Todd Heap continued to be a solid performer with 4 catches for 65 yards and dominated the LBs through the day.

WHAT YOU OUGHT TO KNOW

Cincinnati Bengals

QB: Jon Kitna - Pretty good stats but did throw a few critical interceptions and made some awful throws. Kitna went 28 of 41 for 272 yards and 2 TDs and 3 INTs. Kitna did a good job of finding the open receivers but didn't also throw the best passes to them. He also spread the ball all around and then some hitting 10 receivers in all but looked to be in sync with Chad Johnson.

RB: Corey Dillon - powered the Bengals offense all-day and plowed up the middle over and over. Dillon popped out many times on the other side allowing him to get 102 yards on 21 carries but had to give way to the passing game as the Bengals fell behind. Dillon showed he could catch the ball and get a decent amount of yards with 5 catches for 48 yards. Brandon Bennett - filled in for Dillon and got 6 carries for 20 yards. His real contribution was on special teams returning a kickoff 94 yards for a TD and forcing the kickoffs to be shorter than normal.

WR: Chad Johnson - was in sync with Kitna and came out with 7 catches for 110 yards and a TD. The TD came off a long 39-yard pass where Johnson broke away from his defender. Looks to have definitely established himself as the #1 guy there.

Peter Warrick - was quiet through the game getting a catch here and catch there but managed 5 catches for 33 yards and a TD. Warrick worked underneath and out in the flats for most of the game.

Michael Westbrook, Ron Dugans, and T.J. Houshmandzadeh each got catches but didn't really factor much for the Bengals.

TE: Matt Schobel - was a non-factor with 1 catch for 8 yards but his catch setup the TD to Warrick.

Run Defense: got clobbered by Jamal Lewis as he racked up 135 yards on 21 carries and struggled to force the OL back allowing Lewis to power away up the gut for yards.

Pass Defense: was picked apart underneath by Jeff Blake the entire game. The Bengals, however, were playing soft zone but fortunately they tackled the receivers holding them to minimal gains and preventing all but a few deep passes.

Baltimore Ravens

QB: Jeff Blake - played pretty well all day going 16 of 24 for 183 yards and a TD. Blake picked apart the Bengals soft coverage and hit whatever receiver was open. Todd Heap and Travis Taylor were the main options for Blake.

RB: Jamal Lewis - was the bulk of the offense as he wore down the Bengals defense. Lewis had 21 carries for 135 yards and 2 TDs plowing up the middle for big gains. Baltimore's OL made great blocks and sprung Lewis several times during the game.

Chester Taylor - stepped in for a tired Jamal Lewis and fared just as well getting 5 carries for 25 yards.

WR: Travis Taylor - was a primary target out wide for Blake. Taylor caught 7 passes for 52 yards and a TD. With the soft coverage by the Bengals, Taylor was able to catch several outs and quick passes for yards including the TD.

Brandon Stokely - had only a few balls thrown in his direction and caught only 1 pass for 33 yards.

TE: Todd Heap - was the other primary target for Blake in the middle of the field. Heap had 4 catches for 65 yards and had one catch were he broke away from a LB for 29 yards.

Run Defense: struggled to contain Corey Dillon as he got 102 yards on 21 carries. Without Ray Lewis, Baltimore seems to be unable to contain inside.

Pass Defense: got 3 interceptions with one being returned for a TD. Baltimore placed a good amount of pressure on Kitna but had a hard time stopping Chad Johnson.
