WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Buffalo Bills:

This game was not the shoot out that everyone was expecting. The Bills should have won this game. Their game plan was to keep the potent Chiefs offense off the field with ball control, and they executed the plan perfectly for three quarters. In the fourth quarter, the table was turned and Kansas City ran the ball to control the clock. The Bills took far too many penalties on offense, which likely cost them the game.

RB Travis Henry looked good again running the ball and broke a number of big gains. He was very patient behind his blockers and has developed into a premier fantasy RB thanks to the Bills great passing game. Credit both the Bills offensive line and Henry for his stats today.

QB Drew Bledsoe didn't really take advantage of the league's worst pass defense, primarily because the game plan was to run and throw short passes. He finished the day with 225 yards and one touchdown, a disappointing day against this defense.

Mike Hollis bounced back for a big day with three field goals and a successful on-side kick. Hollis is a premier fantasy kicker behind the potent Buffalo offense.

Kansas City Chiefs:

PK Morten Andersen tied Gary Anderson for the NFL record with 484 career field goals in the second quarter. He later missed a 45-yard field goal.

QB Trent Green had an average day, looking good and bad at times. The Bills dominated time of possession in the game, so Green's numbers were not very good. He took a number of hits and his ankle began to give him trouble and he hobbled around the field so keep an eye on this. Despite the injury, Green was able to do enough to win the game, and had a gutsy scramble for a touchdown to win the game.

RB Priest Holmes had a very slow start, but got the ball late in the game displaying the confidence Vermeil has in the running game. He finished with 127 total yards and a touchdown on an "off" day. Simply outstanding for fantasy purposes.

The Chiefs made a conscious effort to get Johnnie Morton involved in the passing game, and he finished with 53 yards. Eddie Kennison continues to look good for the Chiefs on deep patterns and led the team with 93 yards. Tony Gonzalez was matched up against several players including CB Antoine Winfield, and only managed 2 receptions for 17 yards.

WHAT YOU OUGHT TO KNOW

Buffalo Bills

QB: Everyone expected more from Bledsoe against the vulnerable Chiefs' secondary, it was a disappointing day. Drew Bledsoe's first drive stalled around midfield after having some success in the air and the second drive was three and out. The Bills took too many penalties as they struggled throughout the game to deal with the loud Kansas City crowd. Bledsoe got the Bills going on their third possession, and made a tremendous throw on third and short to keep the drive going under extreme pressure. It was only a six yard pass to Josh Reed, but its Bledsoe's poise that makes him special. He led the Bills on three long scoring drives as the Bills completely dominated time of possession in the first half. Though the Bills continued to use the clock in the second half, Bledsoe could not get the Bills into the end zone.

RB: Travis Henry had a tough time getting involved early in the game. After the first two drives, he had only three carries and no yards. Henry started getting involved in the passing game and made some nice catches for first downs. The passes were simply dump offs, but Henry does enough with the ball to get the needed yards. The running holes began to open, and Henry started to gain yardage in big chunks on the ground. He had a terrific straight arm for a big gain, and a first down on a third and short run with absolutely no help from his blockers. Henry had a 23-yard gain in the third quarter called back for holding. On the day, Henry again looked great running the ball, and was very patient behind his blockers. He's developed into a premier fantasy RB thanks to the Bills great passing game.

WR: Eric Moulds was Bledsoe's favorite target early in this game. He had a nice leap and catch in the late first quarter for a 19-yard gain. He almost had a touchdown catch in the second quarter, but the ball was tipped away at the last second on a good defensive play. He later grabbed a called touchdown that was overturned after a review. He finally connected on a touchdown late in the second quarter, but was shut down in the second half. Moulds finished with 4 catches and 36 yards.

Peerless Price was held without a catch in the first quarter. He finally made a catch in the second quarter for 20-yards. Price almost had a deep ball catch in the third quarter, but couldn't hang on for a tough catch. Price had only 40 yards on the day.

Josh Reed got a look from Bledsoe in the second quarter in the end zone, but the play never developed. He had two catches on short patterns in the first half. Reed continued to factor in the game, and actually led the Bills with 44 yards receiving despite being the third WR option.

TE: Jay Riemersma didn't have a catch in the first half and Dave Moore saw some action on short patterns. Riemersma finished the day with only one catch for 16 yards.

K: Mike Hollis made a 23-yard field goal to get the Bills on the board in the second quarter. Hollis surprised everyone with a successful on-side kick following the drive, and made a 33-yard field goal on the drive. He added another 27-yard field goal in the third quarter.

Bills Pass Defense: The Bills got a coverage sack on third down on the Chiefs' first possession, but the play was negated by a penalty against CB Antoine Winfield. DE Chidi Ahanotu got another third down sack to keep the pressure on and stall the drive. The Bills began to pressure Green in the second half, forcing him to throw early. The unit stayed fresh and played well overall against a great offense.

Bills Rush Defense: The Bills rush defense played surprisingly well in the early going, holding Holmes to short gains only, but took a personal foul facemask in the second quarter sparking the Kansas City drive. Late in the game, the Bills began to give way to Holmes and allow good yardage. LB London Fletcher led the Bills with 8 tackles.

Kansas City Chiefs

QB: Trent Green found Kennison on a long play that led to Chiefs score on their second possession. He was efficient in the early going, and finally found Johnnie Morton down the field on a number of plays. However, the Bills dominated time of possession in the first half, so Green's numbers were not outstanding. In the second half, Green took a number of hits and his ankle began to give him trouble and he hobbled around the field. Keep an eye on this. Despite the injury, Green was able to do enough to win the game, and had a gutsy scramble for a touchdown to win the game.

RB: Priest Holmes' touchdown score in the first quarter simply looked easy. The score extended his streak to eight straight games with a touchdown, a Chiefs' team record. Despite the early touchdown, Holmes couldn't get much going early against the Bills. However, Vermeil had enough confidence in him to give him the ball on a 4th down and 2 to go and continue to feed him the ball late in the game. Holmes finished the game with 104 yards rushing, which is tremendous for what seemed to be an off day.

WR: Johnnie Morton's first catch in three weeks was a nice one on the sidelines for a 19-yard gain. He was very excited. He had another long gain in the second quarter. Morton was more involved in this game plan as the Chiefs made a conscience effort to get him the ball. He finished with 3 catches for 52 yards.

Eddie Kennison was wide open on a long pass on the Chiefs second possession, burning Nate Clements badly. It was a 44-yard gain. He had another great catch on the sidelines for a big gain on third down in the early third quarter. Kennison continues to look good on deep routes.

Mark Boerigter is a very large target. He wasn't able to stretch for a ball in the first quarter, but the ball was badly overthrown by Green. He finished with only one catch for 12 yards as the Chiefs looked to get Morton more involved.

Dante Hall role in this game was strictly as a kick returner.

TE: Tony Gonzalez caught an early pass for a short gain. Buffalo used CB Antoine Winfield to cover Gonzalez in the game. Following the success of San Francisco last week on Gonzalez, KC tried to keep a body on virtually all day long. Green hit Gonzalez on another pass and looked his way in the end zone on the drive before the Priest Holmes score. Gonzalez was open but Green missed him.

K: Morten Andersen made a 38-yard field goal in the second quarter tying Gary Anderson for the NFL record with 484 career field goals. Andersen missed a 45-yard field goal in the early fourth quarter.

Chiefs Pass Defense: Early in the game, the Chiefs defense allowed Bledsoe and the Bills to move the ball effectively, but didn't allow them to get into the end zone. They pressured Bledsoe and had two early sacks. CB Eric Warfield had a great interception with only 4 minutes left in the game, which basically won the game for the Chiefs.

Chiefs Rush Defense: DE Rich Owens left the game in the second quarter. Though the Chiefs held Henry in check on the first couple of drives, the Bills offensive line started opening up huge holes as the game went on and Buffalo executed its ball control strategy perfectly. LB Mike Maslowski led the Chiefs with 10 tackles.
