Dallas 3 at Indianapolis 20

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Dallas Cowboys:

Dallas mounted only one serious drive and capitalized with a 21-yard field goal from Billy Cundiff that made it 3-0 midway through the second quarter. It was the first points Dallas scored in a first half since Oct. 6.

QB Chad Hutchison showed some signs that he might be a viable NFL QB in the future. Under heavy pressure, he kept some composure.

RB Emmitt Smith was totally ineffective. Smith and Troy Hambrick split the Dallas carries right down the middle, with Hambrick having the better day rushing.

Indianapolis Colts:

This was the Marvin Harrison show. Harrison had his 6th 100 yard receiving game of the season, and the 33rd of his career. With 70 TDs, He broke Raymond Berry's team record for touchdowns receiving (68), a mark that stood since 1967. He became the fastest player in the history of the NFL to reach 600 receptions, and the first player this season with 1,000 yards receiving. After this record breaking day, Harrison left without speaking to the media.

Edgerrin James returned after missing time with injury and posted some excellent numbers. Although he was very slow to get started. James left the game in the fourth quarter after getting his ankle rewrapped. Team officials said later that he was not injured, but he did not return.

James Mungro had a terrible day, gaining zero net yards. He did however vulture Red Zone and Goal line carries from James. This may be something to keep an eye on.

WHAT YOU OUGHT TO KNOW

Dallas Cowboys

QB: Chad Hutchinson - 11 of 23 for 131 with no TDs or INTs. 1 Rush for 5 yards. Fumbled twice, both times recovered by the Colt's RDE Josh Mallard. Looked much better than the box score will indicate. With the Colts Defense blitzing on almost every play, Hutchinson seemed calm, and confident in the pocket. At one point the announcers said that getting Hutchinson ready to play at a high level for next season was the most important goal of the Cowboys for this season.

RB: Emmitt Smith - 8 Carries for 22 yards. Poor day overall, as Smith couldn't seem to get going. Smith had a single long run of 9 yards, take that away, and Smith was 7 for just 13 yards, or under 2 yards average per carry.

Troy Hambrick - 7 Carries for 42 yards. 1 Reception for 3 yards. With Smith struggling, Hambrick did well, but not spectacular in relief.

WR: Joey Galloway - 4 Receptions for 49 yards. Hutchinson overthrew Galloway in the deep left corner of the endzone for what would have been a Dallas TD.

Antonio Bryant - 3 Receptions for 44 yards. 1 Carry for 15 yards. Looked great after the catch running with the ball in traffic.

TE: James Whalen - 2 Receptions for 16 yards. Not much of a factor, although his second catch was a much needed 3rd down reception to keep a drive alive.

Cowboys' Pass Defense - Very little Pressure on Manning for the second week in a row, allowing Manning to pick and choose his targets without much difficulty. FS Roy Williams, a first-round pick, had his first career interception in the first half. Safety Darren Woodson scared the Cowboys after laying on the field seemingly injured on a play where he had no contact with anyone. It is believed that he strained his right groin and did not return. Campo had no update after the game.

Cowboys' Rush Defense - After only allowing a total of 35 points in the last three games, the Cowboys' Defense was able to hold James from scoring, but Manning and Harrison did plenty of damage in the air. Although James got rolling later in the contest, at the half way mark in the 2nd quarter, the Cowboys were holding him well at 9 carries for 18 yards. Did stop James at their own 5 yard line, forcing a FG attempt that bounced off the right upright.

Cowboys' Special Teams: K: Billy Cundiff - 1 for 2 on FGs, hitting a 21 yarder.

Indianapolis Colts

QB: Peyton Manning - 29 of 38 for 252 yards, with 2 TDs to Harrison, and an INT. 5 Rushes for 4 yards. FS Roy Williams intercepted Manning. Started a little slow, missing a few passes that should have been made. At one point, Manning overthrew Wayne, who was uncovered deep over the middle, that might have resulted in a long TD.

RB: Edgerrin James -24 carries for 106 yards. 4 Receptions for 6 yards. After a number of weeks not playing due to injury, James got the start. James recovered his only fumble himself. Started out very slow, at the halfway point of the 2nd quarter, James had 9 carries for only 18 yards. Obviously finished strong in the 2nd half.

Ricky Williams - Did not play due to Injury. According to the Colts, he could have been activated for the game if necessary, and he did dress. He was the #3 RB behind James and Mungro today.

Jim Finn - 1 Reception for a net of zero yards. Great lead blocks for James all day.

James Mungro - 5 carries for a net of zero yards. When Mungro came into the game, the crowd roared and took to their feet cheering. Mungro was a big disappointment on the day, gaining nothing on 5 attempts. He did have a long run of 5 yards, but everything he gained was negated by being tacked behind the line of scrimmage for losses on 2 of his 5 carries. Mungro did however vulture a few Red Zone carries from James, this might become something to keep an eye on.

WR: Marvin Harrison - 14 Receptions for 138 yards and 2 TDs. This was Harrison's game. With his 138 yards, Harrison became the leading receiver for yardage in the NFL, and this was his 6th game with 100+ yards this season and 33rd on his career. Harrison is the first receiver to cross 1,000 yards this season, and also became the fastest receiver in the History of the NFL to catch 600 receptions. He also broke Raymond Berry's team record for touchdowns receiving, a mark that had stood since 1967

Reggie Wayne - 2 Receptions for 9 yards. Although he only had 2 receptions, Wayne showed great running moves after the catch picking up a few hard fought yards. Manning overthrew Wayne, who was uncovered deep over the middle, that might have resulted in a long TD.

Troy Walters - 7 Receptions for 91 yards. Normally used primarily as a kick returner, Walters stood out today as the Cowboys concentrated on Harrison. Manning seemed to have great confidence in Walters, who was definitely a surprise with his production.

TE: Marcus Pollard - 1 Reception for 8 yards. Not a part of the game plan.

Colts Pass Defense - Came out blitzing Hutchinson, and never let up all game. Sacked Hutchinson 4 times. RDE Dwight Freeney had 2, LDT Brad Scioli and RDE Josh Mallard each added another. Hutchinson fumbled twice, both times recovered by the Colt's RDE Josh Mallard.

Colts Rush Defense - Great game, with the Colt's game plan concentrating on Blitzing the inexperienced Chad Hutchinson, all the penetration also helped against the run. Smith was held to one of the worst days of his career by both the Colt's and a game plan that rotated in backup Troy Hambrick regularly.

Colts Special Teams - K: Mike Vanderjagt - 2 of 4 on Field Goals, and 2 of 2 XPs. First missed FG bounced off the right Upright. Very unlike Vanderjagt, who is one of the more accurate kickers in the game.
