Green Bay 34 at Chicago 21

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Green Bay Packers:

RB Ahman Green looked ok but was held in check for most of the game but did have a 43-yard run to up his numbers on the day to 27 rushes for 107 yards.

QB Brett Favre had plenty of time to sit back and find the open receiver. He then quickly zipped a pass usually resulting in gains. Favre hit Driver on a deep pass early in the game for a long 85-yard TD.

WR Terry Glenn led the Packers in receiving with 8 receptions and 154 yards. Donald Driver also had a good week with the longest touchdown play of the season, 85 yards. He finished the night with only 4 receptions but had 133 total yards. Glenn still was complaining of severe headaches so watch this.

DE Vonnie Holiday, SS Antuan Edwards, and Mike McKenzie did not play. Tyrone Williams and Duane Sharper left the game with hamstring injuries.

Chicago Bears:

QB Jim Miller struggled in the first half but as the Bears started passing deeper to catch up more yards came his way including a 52-yard pass to David Terrell.

WR Marty Booker was targeted 19 times during the game and is still the clear go to guy for Miller. Booker finished with 12 catches for 141 yards and a TD.

RB Anthony Thomas had a rough game. Chicago trailed in the game from the first quarter on and was forced to pass more than usual. Thomas only had 1 reception but was the target of 4 more. One of them was a screen pass for 20 yards that was called back for offensive pass interference.

TE John Davis was a strong red zone target getting open for 4 passes in his direction with 2 leading to TDs.

DT Ted Washington and LB Warrick Holdman were out on defense. Holdman was placed on IR earlier in the week. OT Rex Tucker was carted off the field with a dislocated left ankle.

WHAT YOU OUGHT TO KNOW

Green Bay Packers

QB: Brett Favre - 287 yards and 3 touchdowns in the first half was amazing. He showed us once again why he's a Canton bound QB with over 40,000 career passing yards. He only needed 262 yards going into the game to hit 40,000. Favre had all the time in the world to sit back and pick apart the Bears secondary totaling 359 yards and 3 TDs on the day. Favre threw to any receiver that could get open and zipped the ball to them. Favre also ran a rare bootleg to the left resulting in a long bomb to Driver for an 85 yard TD.

Favre was cueing the Chicago crowd to make more noise as he was about to go over the 40,000 yard mark.

RB: Ahman Green - was held in check by the Bears defense but managed to pull out a 43-yard run to pad his numbers on the day (27 rushes for 107 yards). Green came back from injury showing both his ability to power over the defense and his speed around the corner. Green also had 4 catches for 21 yards. Green had a 28 yard run called back for holding.

WR: Donald Driver - started the game with a bang with an 85-yard TD from Favre. All throughout the first quarter Driver was getting open for solid catches resulting in more than 100 yards. The rest of the game Driver was slowed down only finishing with 4 catches for 120 yards. Driver also had 2 fumbles and lost one of them.

Terry Glenn - Just as Driver owned the first half, Terry Glenn was the factor in the second. Terry Glenn's 8 catches for 154 yards led the team. He wasn't able to get into the end zone though.

He received the ball any time that he got separation for the DB, which was often. Glenn played a great game getting 10 targets bringing in 8 catches for 154 yards. Glenn was still complaining about his severe headaches after being hit.

Javon Walker had 2 catches for 24 yards. One of which was on third down. He was the target of 2 other balls. One of them Favre fired into his chest but the rookie was unable to make the catch.

TE: Bubba Franks - played his usual game getting 1 catch for a TD.

Tyrone Davis - popped out in the end zone getting a TD pass but wasn't a factor at any other time. Tyrone Davis had 2 catches for 30 yards and a touchdown.

Bubba Franks only recorded 1 reception, but as usual, it was for a touchdown. He was the target of only one other throw.

ST: Ryan Longwell had a rough night connecting on only 2/5 field goals. One of the misses was a 28 yard blocked kick.

Todd McBride recovered the Bears fumbled kick return to begin the second half.

Green Bay Run Defense: The run defense held Chicago to 45 rushing yards. The Bears were forced to throw the ball, trailing the entire game. Chicago had a long run of only 8 yards. Gilbert Brown dominated the offensive line and prevented Thomas from cutting back against the LBs.

Green Bay Pass Defense: They allowed Jim Miller to throw for 353 yards and 3 touchdowns but they sacked Miller 3 times and picked him off 3 times, returning one for a touchdown. They did well considering all the injuries to the secondary. Tyrone Williams and Darren Sharper left the game and did not return after injuring their hamstrings. Vonnie Holiday, Antuan Edwards, and Mike McKenzie didn't play in the contest at all.

Chicago Bears

QB: Jim Miller - threw for 353 yards and 3 touchdowns but made several mistakes. His 3 interceptions were very costly. Miller started the game with the conservative Chicago offensive scheme with only minimal gains and led the Bears to several 3 and outs. Then Miller opened up with deeper passes inflating his yards as several twenty plus yard catches were made along with a deep pass to David Terrell for 52 yards. 2 of Miller's TD passes came from the defense getting turnovers near the end zone. Marty Booker is still Miller's clear first option but isn't the only person he throws to. He did make several key mistakes though.

RB: Anthony Thomas - played his usual smash mouth running style getting a standard 3 yards per carry on 15 attempts. However, Gilbert Brown pushed the offensive line into the backfield and stopped any chance of Thomas cutting back against the LBs for big gains. Thomas did have a 20 yard screen pass called back for offensive pass interference. He also was the target of 4 incomplete passes, one of which was a least 20 yards down field. This may be a sign of the Bears willingness to get Thomas more involved in the passing game.

WR: Marty Booker - is still the go to guy with 19 targets bringing in 12 catches for 121 yards and a TD. Booker was usually the first option on passing plays and abused the DBs time and time again.

Dez White - quietly picked up catches throughout the game racking up 70 yards on 6 catches. White was targeted 11 times but several came on quick passes.

David Terrell - wasn't much of a factor until he busted deep for a 52-yard pass.

TE: John Davis - came out with 2 TDs on 3 catches. Davis was only looked at near the end zone but was effective at getting open with 4 targets within the red zone.

ST: The Bears came out to punt the ball in the first half and ran a very odd play instead. The entire OL lined up on one side of the field while the long snapper hiked the ball to David Terrell. Terrell optioned the ball to Urlacher who then threw the pass incomplete to the center.

Chicago Run Defense: The run defense held Ahman Green for minimal gains most of the night until he broke on for 43 yards. With Ted Washington and Warrick Holdman out of the game, they suffer as a defensive unit.

Chicago Pass Defense: Although they sacked Favre 3 times, they seldom pressured the HOF QB. They did a better job of containing the Packer's offense in the second half.

Run Defense: did a very good job at holding Ahman Green. The Bears allowed a long 43-yard run near the end of the game but excluding that run the Bears had Green contained to 2.46 yards per carry. Keith Traylor did an excellent job of pushing the offensive line back and allowing Urlacher to flow to the RB. With Ted Washington and Warrick Holdman out of the game, they suffer as a defensive unit.

Pass Defense: Although they sacked Favre 3 times, they seldom pressured the QB. They did a better job of containing the Packer's offense in the second half. All in all, they placed very little pressure on Brett Favre and allowed him to run through all his progressions and find the open receiver. The secondary couldn't stop Favre after this.
