WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Philadelphia Eagles:

QB Donovan McNabb had a good day today as far as statistics go. He threw for 230 yards and 2 touchdowns. He ran for another 100 yards and a touchdown on a designed quarterback run, up the middle, for 4 yards. He was sacked 5 times and under pressure most of the game. He had at least 2 long throws that could have been touchdowns, dropped by his receivers. He may have been under the weather, or maybe the humidity got to him, because he "left everything on the field" (literally) during the final drive of the game.

RB Duce Staley was used as the primary back. He had 13 rushing attempts compared to 3 for Dorsey Levens and 1 for Brian Westbrook. Staley gained 82 yards on the ground and 35 through the air. Even though he didn't score, it was his best rushing day of the season.

Special Teams killed the Eagles. There were 13 men on the field during a punt return, which kept a Jacksonville drive alive in the 2nd quarter that resulted in a touchdown. The special teams also allowed Bobby Shaw to return a punt for a 69-yard touchdown.

Jacksonville Jaguars:

RB Fred Taylor had his least effective outing this season. He gathered only 48 yards on the ground and no touchdowns. Do not worry, he didn't look hurt, the Eagles run defense played tough today. He's now officially been replaced at the Goal line with Stacey Mack and that puts a major dent in his value.

RB Stacey Mack is definitely the featured back at the goal line. He rushed up the middle 3 consecutive times, inside the Eagles 2 yard line, before getting his touchdown.

Mark Brunell played a mistake free, heads up game. He threw for 197 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions. He avoided Eagles rushers well and was only sacked once. He looked like the veteran that he is out there.

Bobby Shaw returned a punt for 69 yards in the 4th quarter that sealed the game for Jacksonville. It was his first touchdown as a Jaguar.

Jimmy Smith became the 26th player in NFL history to grab 600 receptions.

WHAT YOU OUGHT TO KNOW

Philadelphia Eagles

QB: Donovan McNabb was under pressure all day today. He was sacked 5 times and his line gave him very little help. He may have been under the weather, because he "left it all on the field" (literally) during the game's final drive. Under all these circumstances, you would think his overall performance would suffer. Not at all. McNabb threw for 230 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions. He used 7 different receivers for his 28 completions. When the Jacksonville defense had everyone covered, which was often, he took off and gathered 100 yards on the ground. His 4-yard rushing touchdown was a designed run up the middle, as opposed to a broken play. If it weren't for a couple of dropped balls, McNabb would have easily had over 300 yards in the air and at least one more touchdown.

RB: Duce Staley took most of the carries today. He ended up with 13 carries for 82 yards. He also grabbed 6 receptions for 35 yards. He looked strong today, picking up good chunks of yard every time he ran the ball. He was a huge part of the game plan in the 1st half. He also rushed up the middle for a 2-point conversion.

Brian Westbrook barely saw the ball today. He had 1 carry and two receptions for a combined 18 yards.

Dorsey Levens rushed 3 times for 12 yards and no receptions.

WR: Todd Pinkston had 4 receptions for 21 yards. He was the forgotten receiver today and received very few looks.

James Thrash had 5 receptions for 68 yards. He almost had a diving catch for a huge gain downfield, but he dropped the ball as he hit the ground.

Antonio Freeman caught 4 balls for 28 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown was in garbage time on the last play of the game. He dropped a long pass play in the end zone, towards the end of the first half, which would have tied the game going into halftime.

TE: Chad Lewis had 6 receptions for 47 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown was an amazing grab in the back of the end zone. He dropped a 2-point conversion and a big 3rd down play in the 4th quarter.

Philadelphia Pass Defense - held Mark Brunell to 197 yards and 1 touchdown. They were very average today. Bobby Taylor missed an easy tackle on Jimmy Smith that resulted in a 47-yard play.

Philadelphia Rush Defense - This may have been their first real test, going up against a healthy Fred Taylor. They held him to 48 yards on 21 attempts.

Philadelphia Special Teams - They lost today's game. They allowed Bobby Shaw to return a punt 69 yards for a touchdown. This is the third returned kick for a touchdown this season. It finally hurt the Eagles in a close game. They were also penalized for having 13 men on the field during a Jacksonville punt. This gave the Jaguars a first down and restarted a drive that ended in a Kyle Brady touchdown.

Jacksonville Jaguars

QB: Mark Brunell showed great poise and leadership while posting just average FF numbers. He was able to avoid the Eagles rush (except for 1 sack for no yards lost) all day. He moved up into the pocket well and showed great veteran awareness on the field. He threw for 197 yards and a touchdown and ran for 20 more. He got the job done.

RB: Fred Taylor was held to 48 yards on the ground on 21 attempts and 15 yards in the air. He also caught a pass for a 2-point conversion. It was his first game of the season without a touchdown. The Eagles loaded up the line and gave him no room to run. Fred Taylor looks healthy so that's not a concern. The fact that Tom Coughlin feels he must pull Taylor and insert Stacey Mack inside the 10 is a huge concern.

Stacey Mack had 3 total carries, all in a row, within the Eagles 2 yard line. He got the touchdown on his third try. He will continue to steal touchdowns from Fred Taylor all year long.

WR: Jimmy Smith had 4 receptions for 91 yards. His first catch of the game came with 2 minutes left in the 1st half. He had two big catches that set up 2 of Jacksonville's touchdowns. Jimmy Smith became the 26th player in NFL history to grab 600 receptions.

Patrick Johnson had 3 receptions for 39 yards.

TE: Kyle Brady had 2 receptions for 34 yards. He scored his first touchdown of the year on a 2-yard pass. It put the Jaguars ahead for good.

Jacksonville Pass Defense - Donovan McNabb was under constant pressure all day. He was sacked 5 times. Three of those came from rookie John Henderson. They blanketed Philadelphia's receivers well and forced McNabb to run the ball often.

Jacksonville Rush Defense - Duce Staley had his best rushing performance of the year with 82 yards and a 6.3 per run average. They gave up a total 191 yards on the ground. This defense needs work.

Jacksonville Special Teams - They allowed Brian Mitchell to gain 135 yards on returns. Hayden Epstein hit both of his field goals (34, 31) to take a 6-0 lead in the 1st half.
