Quarterbacks

Pittsburgh's Tommy Maddox suffered a spinal chord contusion at the end of the third quarter on Sunday. Status: The injury was serious enough to warrant immobilization, an ambulance ride to the hospital, and an overnight stay in the hospital. The injury caused temporary paralysis in Maddox's extremities. However, his agent, Vann McElroy reported to post-gazette.com that the "best case scenario" was developing - no swelling of the spinal chord had occurred as of last evening. Keep an eye on this as the week progresses if you have any of the Steelers on your team. Maddox also suffered a concussion on the play. On Monday, it was reported that Maddox is walking under his own power, and that X-rays, CT scans and MRI's showed no structural damage in his neck. However, the word is that Maddox is likely to be out several weeks due to the injury.

Philadelphia's Donovan McNabb broke (and played on) his right fibula in Sunday's win over the Cardinals. Status: McNabb is out 6-8 weeks, depending on the treatment option that the Eagles and McNabb choose for the injury. Koy Detmer will start for the Eagles in McNabb's absence, backed up by A.J. Feely.

Denver's Brian Griese sprained his left knee in the game against the Seahawks Sunday. The team doctors have preliminarily diagnosed the injury as a partially torn MCL. Status: Griese will have an MRI today to confirm the condition. If it is indeed an MCL tear, he will be out for a minimum of 3-4 weeks. The prognosis entirely depends on the outcome of the MRI. Update: The MRI confirmed a tear of the MCL, but it now appears that Griese will only be out 1-3 weeks. Beuerlein should get the start this week, though.

Miami's Ray Lucas bruised his left elbow during the game, but didn't miss a play. Status: The injury is not considered serious at this time.



Running Backs

Arizona's starting FB Joel Makovicka left the game on Sunday with a concussion. Status: Makovicka did not return to play - the severity of the concussion is unknown, and will be evaluated further as the week goes by.

New Orleans' Deuce McAllister sprained his right ankle in the second half on Sunday and did not play most of the fourth quarter. Status: The severity of the sprain is unknown at this time. Further examinations including an MRI are scheduled for later in the week.

Indianapolis' Edgerrin James sprained his right ankle in the fourth quarter Sunday and did not return to the game. Status: The injury is characterized by coach Dungy as "not serious" at this time.

Green Bay's Najeh Davenport had his eye poked in the game Sunday. Status: Reports on Davenport's status are unclear at this point - he was having trouble with the injury after the game on Sunday.

Dallas' Emmitt Smith bruised his forearm in the loss in Indianapolis on Sunday. Status: The injury is not considered serious at this time.

San Diego's fullback Fred McCrary injured his thigh on Sunday. Status: The extent of the injury is unknown at this time.

Washington's Stephen Davis played on Sunday, and was the featured back 19 rushes for 59 yards, 0 receptions -- (Kenny Watson had 1 carry for -1 yards, 2/17 receiving). No RBBC this past weekend, anyway.



Wide Receivers

Tampa Bay's Keyshawn Johnson bruised his ribs in the game Sunday. Status: Johnson returned to the game, and the injury is not considered serious at this time.

Detroit's Az-Zahir Hakim dislocated and fractured his left hip in the game Sunday. Status: Hakim is out for the season due to the injury.
