*** Thursday Night Update – QB Jake Plummer (Ari) is calling signals in a no-huddle offense for the first time in his career.

 

*** Friday Night Update – QB Jake Plummer (Ari) told the team he would be willing to return to the Cardinals provided changes are made.  Oh I bet the Cardinals are just shaking in their boots over this ultimatum.  We do not expect Jake Plummer to be back.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – QB Rodney Peete (Car) says he wants to play for a couple more years but isn’t sure if Carolina will ask him to return.

 

*** Friday Night Update – QB Rodney Peete (Car) practiced with the first unit on Friday and is expected to start despite a sore groin.

 

QB Jim Miller (Chi) is out for the year with a small tear of the MCL. Chris Chandler will start for the team.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – QB Joe Germaine (Cin) has been added to the active roster. It is unlikely that he’ll play at all this season.

 

QB Jon Kitna (Cin) has been named the starter for the remainder of the year. The fact that the team considered giving Akili Smith another shot speaks volumes.

 

*** Friday Night Update – QB Brian Griese (Den) is practicing despite a sore knee.  He will start this week.

 

QB Peyton Manning (Ind) experienced some swelling in his right knee after last week’s game. He practiced Wednesday and expects to be good to go this weekend.

 

*** Friday Night Update – QB Peyton Manning (Ind) practiced on Thursday and Friday and will start as expected.

 

QB Aaron Brooks (NO) was pulled from last week’s game due to muscle fatigue and not further injury to his shoulder. The team expects him to be ready to start this weekend.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – QB Aaron Brooks (NO) was able to lift weights on Tuesday and Wednesday but did not throw Wednesday. He was able to practice on Thursday and should start this weekend.

 

*** Friday Night Update – QB Aaron Brooks (NO) practiced fully with the first team on Friday and is expected to start on Sunday.  He gets a great matchup against Minnesota this week so despite his injured shoulder, he could have a great week.   

 

QB Koy Detmer (Phi) is improving but his status is still day-to-day. When he is healthy, he’ll return as the starting QB. He practiced on Wednesday, but it looks like he’ll be the #2 QB this weekend.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – QB Koy Detmer (Phi) will be on the field this weekend as holder on place kicks.

 

*** Friday Night Update – AJ Feeley (Phi) has been practicing with the first unit and will start again this week.  Koy Detmer should be able to start next week.

 

QB Donovan McNabb (Phi) is now out of the cast but is still on crutches. His time-table for returning has not changed (Week 17 at the very earliest).

 

QB Tommy Maddox (Pit) remains as this team’s starting QB for this weekend.

 

QB Marc Bulger (StL) will be the team’s starting QB this weekend.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – QB Kurt Warner (StL) has been placed on IR. His season is now mercifully over.

 

QB Matt Hasselbeck (Sea) was fitted with a boot for his sprained ankle. He missed Wednesday’s practice and may miss this weekend’s game. If he does sit, Jeff George will get the start.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – QB Matt Hasselbeck (Sea) was able to participate in Thursday’s practice. He experienced a little pain but felt better than he expected. The key here is to see how his ankle responds to the work he put in today.

 

*** Friday Night Update – QB Matt Hasselbeck (Sea) practiced fully on Friday and will start this week.  Unfortunately this will not help the value of my precious Jeff George rookie cards.

 

QB Steve McNair (Ten) is still ailing with a myriad of injuries, but he could see the practice field some this week. He expects to play this weekend.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – QB Steve McNair (Ten) did not practice Wednesday.

 

*** Friday Night Update – QB Steve McNair (Ten) threw the ball in 7 on 7 drills in practice.  This is his first practice in weeks.  He is expected to start as usual.

 

QB Danny Wuerffel (Was) is out at least this week with a shoulder injury. Patrick Ramsey will assume the starting QB job.

 

Running Backs in the News

 

RB Warrick Dunn (Atl) is expected to play this week after missing last week’s game.              

 

RB Anthony Thomas (Chi) is out for the year after being placed on injured reserve.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – RB Corey Dillon (Cin) did not practice Wednesday to rest his ankle but expects to start this weekend.

 

*** Friday Night Update – RB Corey Dillon (Cin) returned to practice on Friday and is expected to start as usual.

 

RB William Green (Cle) is expected to play despite his triceps injury.

 

RB Cory Schlesinger (Det) re-aggravated his stinger during last Sunday’s game.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – RB Cory Schlesinger (Det) is expected to play this weekend.

 

RB James Stewart (Det) re-aggravated his stinger during last Sunday’s game. He is questionable to play this weekend. Stewart missed practice Wednesday and isn’t expected to practice much this week. The team has signed Autry Denson.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – RB James Stewart (Det) did not practice on Thursday and is really struggling with his knee injury and stinger. His playing status for this weekend is very uncertain.

 

*** Friday Night Update – RB James Stewart (Det) is still listed as questionable on the injury report, but does not look like he will play this week.  If he cannot go, look for Aveion Cason and Rafael Cooper to split carries.  Against the Tampa Bay defense none of these backs are going to be effective this week.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – RB Tony Fisher (GB) will see action this weekend regardless of Ahman Green’s playing status. If Green does play, the two are expected to split carries.

 

RB Ahman Green (GB) should be able to play this weekend. If Green can not go, Tony Fisher will again carry the load for the team.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – RB Ahman Green (GB) did not practice on Wednesday but was able to run. He is expected to play this weekend.

 

*** Friday Night Update – RB Ahman Green (GB) looked sharp at Friday’s practice and is expected to start as usual.  Tony Fisher will also get some carries.

 

RB Edgerrin James (Ind) slightly injured his ankle during last Sunday’s game.

 

*** Friday Night Update – RB Edgerrin James (Ind) practiced on Friday and will start as expected.  James Mungro will also get some carries.

 

RB Moe Williams (Min) is feeling better than he did at this time last week, but he still missed practice on Wednesday.

 

RB James Wofford (Min) should be fine this weekend despite suffering a concussion.

 

RB Deuce McAllister (NO) came out of last week’s game without suffering a set-back and should be good to go this weekend.

 

*** Friday Night Update – RB Deuce McAllister (NO) was able to practice on Friday and will start as expected.

 

RB LaMont Jordan (NYJ) may have to miss another week with his bad ankle.

 

*** Friday Night Update – RB Lamont Jordan (NYJ) missed Thursday’s practice.  He will be a game-time decision.

 

RB Dorsey Levens (Phi) will be limited this week in practice but is expected to play this weekend.

 

RB Brian Westbrook (Phi) will likely miss this weekend’s game with a sprained ankle.

 

*** Friday Night Update – RB Brian Westbrook (Phi) has been unable to practice all week and is expected to be deactivated for this week’s game.

 

RB Jerome Bettis (Pit) missed Wednesday’s practice with a sore knee but will remain as the team’s starting RB for this weekend’s game.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – RB Jerome Bettis (Pit) will start this weekend, but Amos Zereoue will also see action.

 

*** Friday Night Update – RB Jerome Bettis (Pit) practiced on Thursday and will start as usual.

 

RB Kevan Barlow (SF) is improving and could play this weekend.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – RB Kevan Barlow (SF) practiced on Wednesday and expects to play this weekend.

 

RB Garrison Hearst (SF) hyper-extended his knee in last week’s game but is expected to play this weekend.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – RB Garrison Hearst (SF) practiced on Wednesday and will play this weekend.

 

*** Friday Night Update – Both Kevan Barlow and Garrison Hearst (SF) were able to practice on Friday and are both expected to play.  HC Steve Mariucci has stated he will play the healthiest one more, but he is not sure who that is.

 

RB Marshall Faulk (StL) is still hobbled by the high ankle sprain and will likely play at less than 100% for the remainder of the year.

 

*** Friday Night Update – Despite being listed as probable on the injury report, RB Marshall Faulk (StL) will be a game-time decision this week.  He remains hobbled by his high ankle sprain and is extremely sore.  He also was very ineffective last week trying to play with the injury. 

 

RB Maurice Morris (Sea) will sit this weekend with a bad hamstring.

 

RB Stephen Davis (Was) will see decreased action for the remainder of the season as the team will take a closer look at Ladell Betts. They want to see if Betts can be their featured RB next year.

 

Wide Receivers in the News

 

WR David Boston (Ari) has resumed light jogging (the surgery took place three weeks ago).

 

WR Frank Sanders (Ari) could easily miss another week with his foot injury.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – WR Frank Sanders (Ari) will not play this weekend. Jason McAddley and Kevin Kasper will again start for the team.

 

*** Friday Night Update – WR Muhsin Muhammad (Car) was able to practice on Friday and will start despite an injured knee.

 

WR Ron Dugans (Cin) is expected to play this weekend.

 

WR Peter Warrick (Cin) spent Sunday night hospitalized with a bruised lung and may have to sit out this weekend’s game.

 

*** Friday Night Update – WR Peter Warrick (Cin) has not been able to practice this week and looks as if he will miss this weekend’s game. 

 

WR Dennis Northcut (Cle) will likely miss another week with his knee injury.

 

*** Friday Night Update – WR Dennis Northcutt (Cle) has been unable to practice and is not expected to play on Sunday.

 

WR Joey Galloway (Dal) is day-to-day with a sprained thumb. He is expected to play this weekend.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – WR Joey Galloway (Dal) did not catch any passes in Wednesday’s practice, but he is still expected to play this weekend.

 

WR Scottie Montgomery (Den) will most likely be able to play this weekend.

 

WR Donald Driver (GB) suffered a bruised elbow during last Sunday’s game.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – WR Robert Ferguson (GB) sprained his ankle in Thursday’s practice. This was after he injured a finger trying to catch a bullet from Brett Favre. Despite these injuries, Ferguson expects to play this weekend. He and Javon Walker will split time at the #3 WR spot.

 

*** Friday Night Update – Despite spraining his ankle in Thursday’s practice, WR Robert Ferguson (GB) practiced fully on Friday.  He is expected to play and return punts this weekend.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – WR Terry Glenn (GB) did not practice Wednesday due to his hip injury. He was able to run and is expected to play this weekend.

 

WR Javon Walker (GB) injured his ankle during last Sunday’s game but is expected to play this weekend.

 

WR/KR Jermaine Lewis (Hou) sprained his ankle and will likely sit this weekend.

 

*** Friday Night Update – WR Jermaine Lewis (Hou) was unable to practice and is doubtful for Sunday.

 

WR Qadry Ismail (Ind) injured his wrist in last week’s game but should still be able to go this weekend.

*** Thursday Night Update – WR Marc Boerigter (KC) suffered a shoulder injury in Wednesday’s practice but still expects to play this weekend.

WR James McKnight (Mia) suffered an ankle injury during last week’s game. He practiced on Wednesday and should play this weekend.

 

*** Friday Night Update – WR James McKnight (Mia) was upgraded to probable on the recent injury report. He practiced on Thursday.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – WR Randy Moss (Min) pled guilty to two charges stemming from his encounter with a traffic officer in September. Three other charges were dropped. Moss will pay a fine of $1200 and was sentenced to 30 days in jail (which will be stayed if Moss completes 40 hours of community service and does not repeat his traffic stupidity).

 

WR Ron Dixon (NYG) is out this week after being suspended for one game. He has missed treatments for his knee, missed doctor appointments, and been late to team meetings. Not a good sign.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – WR Ron Dixon (NYG) had surgery to clean out his injured knee and will be out for about three weeks.

 

WR Santana Moss (NYJ) is expected to play this weekend despite a sore ankle.

 

WR Plaxico Burress (Pit) missed Wednesday’s practice due to a personal matter. He is expected to return on Thursday.

 

WR Hines Ward (Pit) may have to sit this week with a bad hamstring. He missed Wednesday’s practice.

 

*** Friday Night Update – WR Hines Ward (Pit) returned to practice on Friday, but was still struggling with his injured hamstring.  He was unable to practice on Thursday.  He will be a game-time decision.  If he does play, he will likely not have his usual high productive game.  Look for Antwaan Randle El to get more looks this week.

 

WR Curtis Conway (SD) is still ailing with his shoulder injury and could miss yet another week.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – WR Curtis Conway (SD) was able to participate in Wednesday’s practice. He appeared to have full range of motion in his shoulder and expects to start this weekend.

 

*** Friday Night Update – WR Curtis Conway (SD) was able to practice fully on Friday and will return to the starting lineup this week.

 

WR Bobby Engram (Sea) will sit this weekend with turf toe.

 

*** Friday Night Update – WR Koren Robinson (Sea) was added to the Friday injury report with an injured thumb.  He is expected to start as usual.

 

WR Terrell Owens (SF) has a couple of injuries (groin and heel) and will be limited in practice this week. He is expected to play this weekend.

TE Steve Bush (Ari) had a knot that’s “egg-sized” after suffering a concussion.

 

*** Thursday Night Update – TE Wesley Walls (Car) injured his foot in Thursday’s practice. His status is not currently known.

 

*** Friday Night Update – TE Wesley Walls (Car) did not practice on Friday with his injured foot.  He will be a game-time decision.

 

TE John Davis (Chi) will miss this weekend’s game with a back injury.

 

TE Dustin Lyman (Chi) is out for the year after being placed on injured reserve.

*** Friday Night Update – PK Morten Andersen (KC) is iffy to kick this weekend.  He did not practice on Thursday.  On Friday, the team signed Michael Husted in case Morten Andersen cannot go.  Morten Andersen appears on the updated injury report as questionable with an injured knee.

 

PK Jeff Chandler (SF) has a sore groin but was able to kick without problems last week.
