*** Thursday Night Update Jack Del Rio has officially been hired by the Jacksonville Jaguars as the head coach.

HC Steve Mariucci (SF) has been released by the team. Possible candidates include Dennis Green and Jim Mora, Jr. (the teams current defensive coordinator). Something tells me that Terrell Owens shed no tears after this decision. Jacksonville has been rumored as a possible destination for Mariucci.

*** Thursday Night Update Former HC Denny Green has thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant San Francisco head coaching position. However, the man that it really seems the 49ers want is current Seattle head coach Mike Holmgren.

Quarterbacks in the News

QB Brian Griese (Den) is expected to be a June 1st cut from the team. One team that is reportedly interested in Griese is the Miami Dolphins.

*** Thursday Night Update QB Jay Fiedler (Mia) was given a vote of confidence by head coach Dave Wannstedt as the coach said, Hes our guy. Why does it always seem in the NFL that a vote of confidence is followed by a contradictory action that is done because the team just couldnt pass up an opportunity to improve our roster? Of course, Jay Fiedler could really be their guy.

QB Vinny Testaverde (NYJ) has been given permission (according to his agent) to speak with other teams. However, Jets General Manager Terry Bradway is not aware of the team giving Testaverde this permission. The problem is that the Jets will face a $10 million cap hit if they release Testaverde. Thats not going to happen.

QB Kordell Stewart (Pit) will be with a different team next season. To quote Stewart: Im a starter, and I want to be a starter, thats the key. Obviously, thats not here. Obviously.

QB Brad Johnson (TB) suffered a cut on his forehead but is certainly expected to play this Sunday.

*** Thursday Night Update QB Brad Johnson (TB) is no longer listed on the teams injury report with his forehead/eye injury. Hes good to go for Sunday.

QB Steve McNair (Ten) jammed his throwing thumb against a helmet in last weeks game. He was held out of practice on Tuesday and Wednesday. He was able to throw some in individual work and expects to practice Thursday and be ready to play this Sunday.

*** Thursday Night Update QB Steve McNair (Ten) partially participated in Thursdays practice. He was able to throw but not in the actual team drills. McNair did not participate in the team drills because they were being held indoors on artificial turf due to the half a foot of snow that was outside. McNair is expected to practice on Friday.

QB Troy Aikman (up in the booth) says he would consider returning to the Cowboys if Bill Parcels asks.

QB Elvis Grbac (retirement) has announced that he is un-retiring. His agent has called at least one team: the Denver Broncos.

QB Eli Manning (Ole Miss) is staying in school for his senior season. It seems that Manning = four years.

Running Backs in the News

RB DeShaun Foster (Car) is so far from returning from his knee injury/surgery (about six more months) that the team has not ruled out selecting another RB in the upcoming NFL draft. The team hopes Foster will come back OK, but they truly are not sure.

RB Emmitt Smith (Dal) has yet to meet with the team regarding next season.

RB Priest Holmes (KC) is reportedly progressing nicely with his rehab, according to Carl Peterson (the teams president).

*** Friday Night Update Although RB Priest Holmes (KC) could play in the Pro-Bowl, it looks as if the team is going to keep him out and avoid any additional risk with their star running back.

RB Obafemi Ayanbadejo (Mia) has been signed by the team. If by some chance you remember this name, its likely from his time in Baltimore.

RB Ron Dayne (NYG) says he does not want to be traded. Furthermore, the team says they will not try to deal him away. It seems as though Ron Dayne and the NY Giants are a perfect fit.

RB Curtis Martin (NYJ) will not require ankle surgery this off-season but instead will rehab.

RB Jerome Bettis (Pit) will undergo knee surgery later this month to repair a cartilage tear. On a more long term note: Bettis is not a sure bet to return to the team next season. If he does, he will likely be expected to compete for the starting job.

RB Eddie George (Ten) suffered a concussion during Saturdays game. Head coach Jeff Fisher said Sunday that he expects George to be ready to play this Sunday. George sat out of practice on Tuesday but was able to practice on Wednesday without any concussion related problems.

WR Brandon Stokley (Bal) is still on crutches but hopes to be rid of them within a week or two.

WR Eddie Kennison (KC) has been re-signed by the team for six years and $14.8 million.

WR Laveranues Coles (NYJ) will be targeted by the team this off-season. They very much want to re-sign Coles.

*** Thursday Night Update WR Joe Jurevicius (TB) was excused from Thursdays practice for personal reasons. Head coach Jon Gruden says he didnt believe Jurevicius would miss Sundays game.

*** Friday Night Update WR Joe Jurevicius (TB) remains with his wife after their child was born with complications earlier in the week.He is not practicing, but has the green light to play if he rejoins the team before Sunday.Karl Williams would be the third receiver and the team would activate Reggie Barlow should Joe not join up with the team.

Place Kickers in the News

PK Jeff Reed (Pit) will be listed as the teams starting PK going into next seasons training camp. Todd Peterson will be given a chance to compete for the job as well.

*** Friday Night Update PK Martin Gramatica (TB) has what Jon Gruden is calling a tired leg.It will not stop him from kicking field goals this weekend, but he has practiced lightly this week.
