With the fantasy football season coming to an end (except for the playoff challenge at footballguys.com), it's time to reflect on this past season and look at this year's surprises and busts. Who will make my surprise and bust teams? Well, let's find out.

The Surprises

QB Michael Vick (ATL) - What a great season by the multitalented 2nd year quarterback. With a experts consensus ranking of QB #15 heading into the season, Vick surprises everyone with a marvelous breakout performance. Vick was ranked 4th in fantasy points through week #16 and is likely to be the first quarterback taken in next year's draft. Chad Pennington also deserves recognition for his strong play in the 2nd half of the season.

RB Clinton Portis (DEN) - Because of a crowded backfield at the start of the season, Portis ranked #32 in the experts consensus rankings. Portis ranked 6th in fantasy points heading into the final week of the season. With another marvelous performance against Arizona, Portis will jump into the 4th spot to finish the season. Look for Portis to be a first round selection in the majority of fantasy drafts next season. With a strong second half, William Green is another rookie who almost made the list. Look for Green to be highly touted entering next season.

RB Travis Henry (BUF) - With 1358 rushing yards and 14 total touchdowns heading into the final regular season game, Henry earns a spot on the All-surprise team. With a #23 RB ranking by the experts heading into drafts, Henry was a steal and led many teams into the playoffs. Look for Henry to be the centerpiece of Buffalo's high-powered offense next season.

WR Donald Driver (GB) - Plain and simple, Driver was a late round selection who turned into a very productive receiver. Driver ranked 10th among wide receivers heading into this week's final regular season game. If Brett Favre stays in Green Bay, Driver will be productive once again next season. Will he be a great value? Probably not, but he will be productive.

WR Peerless Price (BUF) - Price has always been thought of as a playmaking wide receiver, but consistency was always the big concern with Price. Well, Price showed he could be consistent and productive during the season. With a preseason consensus ranking of #30, Price proved the experts wrong with a top ten season, including 1,252 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns. Price is a free agent at the end of the season. Will he remain in Buffalo and flourish or find the big money elsewhere and most likely struggle?

TE Randy McMichael (MIA) - With a strong preseason, McMichael showed some solid potential. However, he remained a late round selections with big dividends. While everyone was raving over Jeremy Shockey (and for good reason), McMichael was the best value at tight end. The future looks good for the talented rookie. Look for a strong 2003 season.

The Busts

QB Kurt Warner (STL) - After being ranked #1 in the consensus rankings by the experts, Warner bombed this season. Plain and simple, he was horrible. Kordell Stewart receives honorable mention, but Warner wins the award with his dreadful play and horrendous stat line1,431 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, 11 interceptions.

RB Anthony Thomas (CHI) - Thomas entered the season with a ranking floating around the top-10. With a dreadful performance by the Bears offensive line, Thomas finished the season as the 30th in running backs for fantasy points scored. During Thomas' rookie season, the Bears often had the lead and could grind it out in the 2nd half, but that didn't happen this year. Without quality production in the 2nd halves of games, Thomas' production was reduced drastically. Will Thomas be able to rebound next season? Only if the Bears get a quality quarterback to lead the offense.

RB Marshall Faulk (STL) - 1,417 total yards and 10 touchdowns. If this were the stat line for another running back, it would be acceptable, but not for Marshall, especially when you expect 2,200 total yards and 18-20 touchdowns.

WR David Boston (ARI) - With just 512 receiving yards, 1 touchdown and a serious injury, it is an understatement to say David Boston's season was disappointing. Boston was drafted from 4-10 in the majority of fantasy drafts. With a dismal season in 2002, expect him to be undervalued heading into 2003 drafts.

WR Johnnie Morton (KC) - Morton entered the season as the 22nd ranked receiver by the experts. What we failed to realize is the "bust potential" of receivers heading into new offensive schemes. Well, Morton was a bust with his meager 384 receiving yards and one touchdown. Yuck!

Well, it's been an exciting football season once again. It's time to take some time off and get ready for my first child to enter the world in late March. Heck, maybe we'll even do a "Name that Baby" contest.
