Quarterbacks
Starter - Trent Dilfer
Backups - Matt Hasselbeck, Jeff Kelly

Starting Quarterback: Trent Dilfer is one of the most underrated players in the NFL, let alone at the quarterback position. Too many NFL fans still see him as the raw, brutal young quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who looked like a deer caught in the headlights. Now he is poised, experienced, battle-tested and ready to do wonders for the young Seahawks team. Last season, he played the best football of his career and the team likely would have made the playoffs if they had inserted him in as the starter sooner. In four starts last year, he put up 844 passing yards and 6 touchdowns. Good numbers in any situation but if you combine it with the futility of what Matt Hasselbeck accomplished a year ago, Dilfer's numbers appear that much stronger. Look for a poised season from him in 2002 and he'll put up solid numbers. Not a fantasy starter but he is the perfect backup quarterback in fantasy leagues. Solid from week to week so if you need to insert him, you'll know he'll get you some points.

Backup Quarterback(s): Matt Hasselbeck bombed as the starting quarterback with the Seahawks last year. Head Coach Mike Holmgren was too stubborn on leaving him in as a starter last year and the team suffered as a result. However he does have talent and is a decent backup quarterback. He will learn more watching Dilfer this year and will become a better player for it. His value is minimal at best in fantasy football so don't draft him onto your roster. Jeff Kelly is listed as # 3 but his value in fantasy football is not just minimal but zero. Forget you even know his name.

Running Backs
Starter - Shaun Alexander
Backups - Maurice Morris, Jay Graham

Starting Running Back: Shaun Alexander is a stud running back. He has the size, quickness, speed and talent necessary to dominate defenses on a week-to-week basis. He was awesome last year after Ricky Watters went down to injury and he will continue where he left off this season. He is ranked up at # 2 in the Footballguys projections and he should have no problem finish up as a top tier fantasy player. His 14 touchdowns in twelve starts last year was awesome. At 220 pounds, he is a force who will be dependable and durable. Don't let him slide past you in the draft unless you are drafting first overall.

Backup Running Back(s): Rookie Maurice Morris is slated to be the backup for Shaun Alexander. Morris has some good skills but also has parts of his game he will have to improve to be a good NFL running back. He likely will not see much time this year though unless the injury bug hits Alexander. If you want some security when selecting Alexander, it would be a good idea to pickup Morris in the last few rounds.

Fullback(s): Mack Strong, Heath Evans: There is almost zero fantasy worth in either fullback in this system. Both are super blockers and will be on the field to help pave the way for Shaun Alexander. Both are great at what they do but racking up fantasy points isn't going to happen.

Wide Receivers / Tight Ends
Starters - Darrell Jackson, Koren Robinson
Backups - Bobby Engram, James Williams

Starting Receiver(s): The Seahawks have two very nice, young receivers at the starting receiver positions. Both Darrell Jackson and Koren Robinson have lots of talent the ability to get the job done each week. Jackson is the more polished of the two and has become one of the strongest receivers in the game. He is a lock for a top twenty finish in 2002. At the other receiver slot, Robinson is the more talented of the two and simply needs refinement before he makes the jump up to one of the elite receivers in football. Robinson left school a year early and that hurt his progress as a rookie but his blend of size, speed and skill is terrifying and he will continue to improve as a player. Robinson will be a marginal fantasy starter this year and a great one by 2003.

Backup Receiver(s): Bobby Engram is a nice veteran to have coming off of the bench. He brings experience, sure hands and good route running to the field. James Williams is a small, fast receiver who will get some playing time this year. Not much value in these players and I wouldn't draft either of them.

Tight End(s): Jerramy Stevens [r], Itula Mili This is a nice battle shaping up in Seattle. The incumbent Itula Mili is a solid veteran who has experience and wants to be the man. On the other side is a huge rookie named Jerramy Stevens who has tons of talent but too often has had a poor attitude in college. All signs coming out of Seattle have Stevens acting like a seasoned professional and it sounds like his bad moments in college are indeed behind him. As of right now it appears both players will get equal playing time and that limits both of their worth. However if Stevens continues to shine in camp, he may very well win the starting position early on. It will be hard to keep a 6'7 target on the bench.

Place Kicker
Rian Lindell: Lindell was in the fight of his life for the starting kicker position with the team and there is no guarantee he will win the battle. Shayne Graham and Aaron Elling were both in the running for the kicker position as well and it was an entertaining competition in camp (if you can call the kicker position entertaining). Footballguys.com believes that Lindell will win out and be the kicker for the team (and it appears that he has won the job). The competition for the job will get him focused and he'll go on to have a solid year.

Defense
The Seahawks are a middle of the road defense. They have talent at linebacker and defensive back but need some young blood in the defensive line to elevate their play. The team released Levon Kirkland who appeared to be in a battle with Gilbert Brown in regards to who could eat himself out of the league first. His replacement will be Isaac Kacyvenski who is unproven at this level. John Randle has seen in best days and is not the player he once was. He needs to find the bite to match his bark if the defense is going to improve.

Coaching
Some people consider Mike Holmgren a "God" while others consider him vastly overrated. After his stubbornness in regards to Hasselbeck last season, some of the luster and brilliance of the man appear to have faded away. While in Green Bay he had the best general manager of the game in Ron Wolf and the best young quarterback in Brett Favre. So far as Seattle's head coach, he has disappointed in what he has accomplished. He is in the position where he needs to win to keep his job.

Intangibles
A new division, a new conference and a new stadium. What other motivation does a team need? With the gorgeous new stadium in place, fans will be at a fevered pitch and should provide all the inspiration the team needs to make a push to the playoffs.
