Upgrades
QB Drew Bledsoe (Buf) - Bledsoe continues his strong play during the early stages of the season. He burned the Bears for 328 passing yards and 4 touchdowns. With a quality receiving crew, look for this trend to continue. He's a top-flight quarterback and should be considered a must start on a weekly basis.

QB Rich Gannon (Oak) - Coming off a bye week, Gannon was very efficient in the passing game on Sunday with 381 passing yards and 4 touchdowns. With Tim Brown, Jerry Rice, Jerry Porter and Charlie Garner, Gannon has a solid receiving crew at his disposal and should continue to post quality stats on a weekly basis.

QB Trent Green (KC) - Green was happy to see a healthy Tony Gonzalez on Sunday. Green completed 24 of 34 passes for 328 passing yards and 5 touchdowns against the Miami Dolphins. Green also added 48 rushing yards in the game. 3 of Green's 5 touchdown passes went into the hands of Tony Gonzalez. If Green could get some consistent production from Johnnie Morton, he could be in for a strong season.

(Waiver Wire) QB Tommy Maddox (Pit) - Maddox replaced the struggling Kordell Stewart on Sunday. He looked darn good when he stepped into the lineup. He completed 11 of 13 passes for 122 yards. More importantly, he led the Steelers to the game tying score in the 4th quarter and the game winning drive in overtime. Back in the preseason, we were hearing rumors of Maddox replacing Stewart in the Steelers lineup, if Kordell started to struggle. Maddox looked good on Sunday and could be named the starter for next week.

(Waiver Wire) QB Jamie Martin (StL) - Kurt Warner got knocked out of Sunday's game with a broken pinkie finger on his throwing hand. Warner will undergo surgery and will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks. With all the offensive talent on the Rams offense, Martin has the potential to become a solid fantasy starter while Warner is sidelined.

(Waiver Wire) QB Chad Pennington (NYJ) - Pennington replaced an injured Testaverde and threw for decent passing yardage on Sunday. Pennington finished with 281 passing yards against Jacksonville. Pennington failed to get the Jets in the end zone, but he was able to move the ball effectively. Herman Edwards has officially named Chad Pennington the starter this morning as well.

(Waiver Wire) QB Joey Harrington (Det) - Harrington led the Lions to their first victory of the season and he looked poised doing it. Harrington completed 20 of 35 passes for 267 yards and a touchdown. More importantly, he did not throw an interception. I wouldn't gamble with Harrington as my starting quarterback, but he could make a great future quarterback in keeper and dynasty leagues.

RB LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) - L.T. looked great on Sunday with 217 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. He's earning his first round status and will continue to make his fantasy owners very happy.

RB Fred Taylor (Jac) - Taylor is one of the most talented and productive running backs when healthy. Well, he's healthy! Taylor finished with 237 total yards and a touchdown on Sunday. Keep him in the lineup as long as he is healthy.

RB Shaun Alexander (Sea) - Well, the slump is over. Alexander was able to set an NFL record by scoring 5 TDs at halftime. He may not be the most consistent of backs week in and week out, but he is someone you must always play - He is that explosive of a player.

(Waiver Wire) RB Jamel White (Cle) - William Green struggled once again on Sunday and Jamel White clearly outshined him once again. With 16 rushes for 105 yards and a touchdown, look for the Browns to continue to feed the ball to White as the season progresses. If White is available in your league, grab him now.

(Waiver Wire) RB Marcel Shipp (Ari) - With Thomas Jones limited because of an injured ankle, Shipp led the Cardinals to victory with 131 total yards and 2 touchdowns. Jones was given the starting job despite an unproductive preseason. With Jones struggling this season, don't be surprised if the Cardinals give Shipp an opportunity to win the starting job. Grab Shipp, if you are in need of running back depth.

RB Stacey Mack (Jac) - Mack stole 3 touchdowns from Fred Taylor on Sunday and is a solid option in basic scoring leagues. With Taylor's injury riddled past, Mack could jump into the spotlight at any time, which makes him a valuable backup on your roster.

RB Duce Staley (Phi) - The yardage may not be there, but Staley did get the ball at the goal line twice on Sunday. Staley's value will increase, if he continues to get the short yardage scoring opportunities.

RB Lamar Smith (Car) - Smith averaged just 3.0 yards/carry on 22 carries, but he did manage to score 2 touchdowns against Green Bay on Sunday. He is clearly the Panthers best scoring option and is a solid #2 fantasy back at the current time. He has flourished with rookie Deshaun Foster out with injury.

WR Eric Moulds (Buf) - Another solid performance for Moulds. He finished with 119 yards and a touchdown on 8 receptions. Hmmm....do you think Bledsoe is an upgrade over Rob Johnson and Alex Van Pelt? I believe Moulds will agree with that statement.

WR Jerry Rice (Oak) - Rice continues to amaze me. He became the league's all-time yards from scrimmage leader on Sunday. He finished with 7 receptions for 144 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. How much longer can Rice continue his productive play? I don't know, but it is fun to watch.

(Waiver Wire) WR Steve Smith (Car) - Smith has been given the opportunity and he continues to produce. I put him on the waiver wire last week and I will being repetitive this week. Smith finished with 5 receptions for 116 yards on Sunday and was the favorite target of quarterback Rodney Peete.

WR Donald Driver (GB) - With Terry Glenn ailing on Sunday, Driver flourished as the #1 receiver in the Packers offense. Driver finished the day with 97 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also had a 76-yard score called back because of offsetting penalties. Driver is a talented receiver who will continue to produce quality statistics with Brett Favre throwing the ball.

WR Plaxico Burress (Pit) - Burress finally decided to show up this season. He finished with 7 catches for 84 yards and the game tying touchdown. The Steelers passing game looked much better with Tommy Maddox replacing Kordell Stewart in the game. If Maddox gets the starting nod, I see it as only a good thing for the talented Burress.

(Waiver Wire) WR Deion Branch (NE) - Branch did his best impression of Troy Brown this week. Branch finished with 13 receptions for 128 yards while replacing an injured Troy Brown in the starting lineup.

WR Laveranues Coles (NYJ) - Coles struggled during the first few weeks of the season, but looked much better in week 4 (8 catches for 97 yards) with Chad Pennington at quarterback. Coles and Pennington seemed to have a quality rapport. Since the Jets have made the decision to go with Pennington, Coles could also get a lift.

WR Kevin Dyson (Ten) - With Derrick Mason likely out for at least a few weeks, Kevin Dyson is a receiver who should see a lot more looks. Drw Bennett and Justin McCareins should also get increased opportunities and are both likely available as waiver pickups.

TE Tony Gonzalez (KC) - Gonzalez looked very good on Sunday with 140 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. Gonzalez wanted to erase all doubts about the #1 tight end in the league and he did just that.

Downgrades

QB Jay Fiedler (Mia) - Fiedler finished with 310 passing yards and a touchdown against the Chiefs. However, he threw 4 interceptions, which helped the Chiefs win the game.

QB Kordell Stewart (Pit) - Stewart was benched because of poor play. Tommy Maddox replaced Stewart in the lineup and led the team to both the game tying and game winning drives. This is not a good sign for Stewart. If Stewart is your starting quarterback, it is probably time to search for a replacement.

QB Kurt Warner (StL) - Warner was knocked out of Sunday's game with a broken pinkie finger on his throwing hand. Warner is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Grab Jamie Martin, if you need a quarterback.

QB Vinny Testaverde (NYJ) - Testaverde left Sunday's game with a bruised right shoulder. Chad Pennington replaced Testaverde in the lineup and threw for 281 yards. With a 1-3 start, the Jets have decided that Chad Pennington will start next week.

QB Tim Couch (Cle) - Couch struggled against a solid Pittsburgh defense on Sunday. He completed 16 of 29 passes for 144 and 2 interceptions. Give Couch the slight downgrade this week. If he struggles against Baltimore next Sunday night, we may have to downgrade him further.

QB Akili Smith (Cin) - It's tough to downgrade a guy who is already near the bottom, but I'll do it anyway. The Bengals offense is horrible and...Smith is horrible as well. He finished with just 12 completions on 33 attempts for 117 yards.

RB Corey Dillon (Cin) - Dillon failed to score a touchdown for the 4th consecutive week. Dillon has produced just one quality yardage game this season (week 2 vs. Cleveland). Dillon should be able to bounce back with a solid performance against Indianapolis next week, but his early season struggles have me concerned about his performance for the remainder of the season.

RB Eddie George (Ten) - George managed to score a touchdown, but his production was neutralized on Sunday with the amazing start by the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders led the game 21-0 by running just 1 offensive play. George managed just 11 carries on Sunday. More concerning, he averaged just 2.4 yards/carry on those 11 carries. The Titans running game is being hurt by the loss of Bruce Matthews. Keep in mind, the Titans schedule favors increased production by Eddie George with the likes of Indianapolis (2), Jacksonville (2), and Houston (2).

RB Anthony Thomas (Chi) - Thomas and the Bears running game was stymied by the Bills defense. Thomas managed just 48 yards on 23 carries (2.1 yards/carry). He was stuffed on several occassions inside the 10-yard line. Thomas should bounce back next week against Green Bay. There is no need to downgrade Thomas out of your starting lineup yet.

RB William Green (Cle) - Green was once again outplayed by Jamel White. Green finished with 16 yards on 7 carries. White gained 105 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown. There is no need to consider putting Green into your starting lineup for the time being. Green is failing to hit the hole hard, which is limiting his production. He also is terrible at picking up the blitz. Look for the Browns to give Jamel White the majority of carries the rest of the way.

RB Jerome Bettis (Pit) - Bettis gained just 24 yards on 14 carries against the Browns. More than likely, you will need to store Bettis on your bench. Right now, his trade value is at an all-time low, so it is best to wait until his slump ends.

RB Thomas Jones (Ari) - Jones was bothered by an ankle injury that forced him out of the game. Marcel Shipp led the Cardinals to victory with 131 total yards and 2 touchdowns. With Jones struggling this season, don't be surprised if the Cardinals give Shipp an opportunity to win the starting job. Many assumed the departure of Michael Pittman would elevate Thomas Jones into a solid running back. Well, Jones is looking over his shoulder again. Not a good situation for Jones.

WR Derrick Mason (Ten) - Mason had 6 catches for 99 yards on Sunday. However, he left the game in the 4th quarter with a shoulder injury. We'll keep you updated.

WR Joe Horn (NO) - Horn had 6 catches for 87 yards against the Lions on Sunday. However, he suffered a sprained knee. An MRI will be taken on Monday. We'll give you the results as soon as we know.

WR Terry Glenn (GB) - Glenn caught 1 pass for 17 yards, but was forced out of the game because of his recurring headache problems. He is being evaluated again today by another set of experts.

WR Donte Stallworth (NO) - Stallworth scored another touchdown on Sunday. He has scored a touchdown in each of the first 4 games. However, he also injured his hamstring and was forced out of the game. His status is uncertain.

WR Kevin Johnson (Cle) - Johnson managed just 3 catches for 23 yards against a solid Pittsburgh defense. Receiver production can be inconsistent at times. This may not be a big deal, but it is worth noting.
