Upgrades

QB Drew Bledsoe (Buf) - 463 yards and 3 TDs including the game winning drive in OT. But more importantly than the great day, you see the team believing in him. All three wide receivers (Eric Moulds, Peerless Price and Josh Reed) were running hard on their routes and Bledsoe consistently made the correct reads. Drew looks like he is on a mission this year to prove that he still has game.

QB Jay Fiedler (Mia) - With teams worried about Ricky Williams, Jay Fiedler is emerging as a steady performer each week. He completed an efficient 13 of 18 for 187 yards and 2 TDs. He also ran for 30 yards and another TD on a bootleg near the goal-line.

QB Mark Brunell (Jac) - 2 TDs in week 1. 2 TDs and 320 yards in week 2. Even though the Jaguars lost steady receiver Keenan McCardell, it looks as if the receiving corps is as effective with Bobby Shaw and Patrick Johnson filling in at #2 WR. Jimmy Smith is a very dependable #1 WR. Additionally a healthy Fred Taylor is seeing a lot of screen passes out of the backfield.

QB Trent Dilfer (Sea) - He recovered quicker than expected and played a solid game in his first outing (352 yards, 1 passing TD, no INTs)

QB Tom Brady (NE) - Some people carry themselves in a way that exudes confidence. Tom Brady is one of those people. He quietly just keeps putting up the numbers. Neither he nor the Patriots got respect when they won the Superbowl. Now that they dismantled the Steelers and Jets in dominating fashion this season, people are starting to believe. Tom Brady looks as comfortable behind center as any QB in the league.

(Waiver Wire) QB Quincy Carter (Dal) - Seeing how he was left for dead by most fantasy owners, he is probably available in your league. He looked more like the QB we all saw in the preseason this week. He is a spot starter at best, but gets the upgrade after a miserable week 1 performance.

(Waiver wire) QB Jamie Martin (StL) - The offensive line can't block and we will be surprised if Kurt Warner will play every game this season. Kurt Warner is taking lots of abuse. Because of how this team plays, backup Jamie Martin is worth a flier for the couple of starts he may play should Warner go down.

(Waiver wire) QB Drew Brees (SD) - In smaller leagues, Drew may still be available. He gets a great matchup this week against Arizona who saw Shane Matthews and Trent Dilfer torch them in the first two weeks.

RB Thomas Jones (Ari) - He ran for 173 yards and a TD against Seattle's soft running defense in week 2. He needed this game to get the critics off his back. You hear the word bust enough times and you may start to believe it yourself. We have liked Thomas Jones all year because he has tremendous opportunity in Arizona now that Pittman has moved on. This week he made the most of it and gained the confidence of the coaches, teammates and fans.

RB Edgerrin James (Ind) - In Week 2 he carried 30 times and caught another 8 passes. That does not sound like a RB that is weak coming off an ACL injury. He did not score, but amassed 220 rushing + receiving yards. Edgerrin is back. No, make that all the way back. He also benefits from no experience on the bench.

(Waiver wire) RB Moe Williams (Min) - Michael Bennett has not looked sharp at all. Moe Williams looked fantastic yesterday and got the carries when the game was on the line in the 4th quarter and OT. He responded with 17 carries for 102 yards and an explosive TD late in the 4th quarter. Mike Tice may use RBBC for another week, but we think Moe Williams separated himself from the pack with his performance when it counted.

WR Peerless Price (Buf) - 13 catches, 185 yards and 2 TDs.....WOW. But was more impressive is the fire in this kid's eye. When teams make it a priority to shut down Eric Moulds, Peerless Price has the ability to torch single coverage. And he did it yesterday including the game winning TD in overtime. He has arrived and benefits greatly from a Drew Bledsoe led team.

(Waiver wire) WR Donte Stallworth (NO) - Two weeks and two TDs. There is no doubting this rookie's ability. He is still fighting for time as he learns the offense, but will be the starter opposite of Joe Horn soon. If he is still available in your league grab him.

TE Jeremy Shockey (NYG) - Rookie tight ends usually take a few years to develop in the NFL. Shockey is the exception. He looks very special. He has a chance to finish among the top 3 TEs in his first season.

(Waiver wire) TE Eric Johnson (SF) - He is a big part of the SF offense. He caught 7 passes for 69 yards this week and had 4 catches in week 1. He may still be available in smaller leagues. He has yet to score, but will. After two weeks he trails Tony Gonzalez by just 8 receiving yards.

Downgrades

QB Kurt Warner (StL) - After two weeks, he is the 21st ranked QB. He obviously will finish better than this, but there is a lot of reason to worry. The offense line can't block. OT Randy St. Clair looks like he belongs in the CFL and not the NFL. This unit is getting speed rushed by 4 people. When 6 can't block 4, there is a problem. Warner also is getting hit often as the lineman blow these assignments. It will be hard to bench Kurt Warner, but until this offense gets more in sync, he may continue to struggle.

QB Mike McMahon (Det) - Coaches are already unwilling to name the starter for week 3. McMahon's stats: 9 for 23 for 95 yards, 0 TDs and a costly pick tell the whole story. This guy is terrible. The team is terrible. Joey Harrington may not be any better, but he has a better arm and represents the future.

QB David Carr (Hou) - This kid has skills and looks like a great leader, but he will be a terrible fantasy play most weeks. He simply does not have a good enough offense. No one is the least bit worried about Houston's backs (James Allen and Jonathan Wells) and castoff WR Corey Bradford doesn't instill fear either.

RB Shaun Alexander (Sea) - With a very favorable matchup against the Cardinals, Shaun only managed 37 yards rushing on 17 carries. He did get another 46 receiving yards, but the magic from a year ago does not appear there. Trent Dilfer should open up the game some, but the Seahawks are going to have to stay close in ballgames to keep giving Alexander the football. And from what we are seeing, we are not sure that is going to happen.

RB Michael Bennett (Min) - At best he is in a RBBC. At worst he is backing up Moe Williams who had a great game in week 2. We think it will be the latter.

RB William Green (Cle) - He has been outplayed by Jamel White in both of the first two games. He was also outplayed by White during the preseason. William Green looks slow to the hole to us.

RB Curtis Martin (NYJ) - Iron-man Curtis got healthy in a hurry, but was ineffective. He ran for just 5 yards on 4 carries and gained another 15 receiving as the Jets were dominated by the Patriots. He will improve on these numbers, but has been a big disappointment this season so far.

RB Ron Dayne (NYG) - Why the team continues to put him in short yardage situations is an absolute surprise to me. He may be large, but he is alo indecisive. He almost single-handedly lost the game for the Giants. His productivity in week 2: 11 carries for 18 yards and 0 TDs. After two weeks he has carried 17 times for 28 yards and no TDs. He is a bust.

RB Clinton Portis (Den) - He seems to be the odd man out right now in the RBBC with just 4 carries for 12 yards. Both Olandis Gary and Mike Anderson were very effective so we expect Portis to be brought along slowly if this continues.

WR Terrell Owens (SF) - He seems to be struggling with the double teams more than in the past. And teams are going to double team him all year. He is still one of the best wide receivers in the league, but his performance on the field hasn't matched the expectations.

WRs Torry Holt/Isaac Bruce (StL) - They are not in sync with Kurt Warner right now. Bruce appears to have lost a step and Holt is dropping more than his share. Kurt Warner is getting pressured so the routes need to be shorter. Until Kurt and the receivers show they are on the same page, everyone gets downgraded.

WR Keyshawn Johnson (TB) - After two weeks he has 123 yards but NO scores. Gruden promised us all more TDs for Keyshawn, but so far nothing. The Tampa Bay offense did not score an offensive TD this week.

WR Rod Smith (Den) - Mike Shanahan looks like he wants to run first and throw second. He had a terrible game this week catching just 3 for 22 yards.

TE Todd Heap (Bal) - The talent is there, but Chris Redman can't get him the ball. And in an effort to protect Chris, the team is keeping Todd in to block often.

TE Stephen Alexander (SD) - After signing the big deal in the offseason, he is no where to be found. After two weeks he has 3 catches for 3 yards. I will never understand the logic in paying him twice what Freddie Jones got.

PK Doug Brien (Min) - There are unwritten rules in football. One is if you miss two PATs in a game you are gone. Look for Brien to be let go early this week.
