Of course everyone would love to come out of the first few rounds with a pair of Stud Running Backs (there's a whole theory on it). Buf of course not everyone can. Either a Stud WR or Stud QB is too tempting or the supply of elite RBs simply dries up. All too often, you'll find yourself four rounds deep and staring at a gaping hole at one of your starting RB positions. Without question, you are headed for a Running Back By Committee (RBBC).

Here are three components to finding a quality RBBC:

1. The back must already have a decent role and a chance to produce immediately.
2. The back must generally be available after the fourth round.
3. The backs in the RBBC must have compatible schedules (you don't want both RBs facing a tough defense one week and then both facing a poor defense the next) and can't have the same bye week.

The first two components are satisfied by the following players:

Each RB listed above should have at least a decent role in his team's offense and should be available after the 4th round of your draft. Note that some players might be taken before then, but their ADP is fifth round or later.

The hard part is matching up favorable schedules. That has been done and is presented in the table below.

  • You'll see three rows for each combo
    • The 2nd and 3rd rows are the weekly schedule for each back in the combo
    • The 1st row is the easiest opponent of the two for that week

    For example, in week one, Onterrio Smith's opponent is expected to allow 18.1 fantasy points to RBs while Amos Zereoue's opponent is expected to allow 18.7 fantasy points to RBs. Since the Redskins opponent is expected to allow more fantasy points, the 18.7 goes in the first row as you would likely start Zereoue that week.

The RBBC with the easiest combined schedule is any pair from Minnesota and Pittsburgh. There are 48 favorable RBBC combos listed below (my favorite is #7). Find one with a pair of RBs you like, and you'll have a very good Running Back By Committee.
