Offensive Upgrades, Aberrations and Downgrades

Upgrades

QB Jeff Garcia (SF) - he had another huge game this week (344 passing yards, 2 passing TDs, 51 rushing yards and a score).

QB Jake Delhomme (Car) - Delhomme didn't tear up the Cardinals (who are decent at home), but he could be huge this weekend against the Lions.

QB Peyton Manning (Ind) - Manning is what other QBs should strive to be.  He's talented and all, but he's an elite player because of preparation.  Case in point: As the second quarter began (with the Colts up 14-0), Manning could be seen studying overhead photos with his offensive linemen.  He finished the game completing 25 of 30 pass attempts for 5 TDs.

QB Trent Green (KC) - The Chiefs offense is rolling and they draw Minnesota next week.  Look for Trent to have another big game.

QB Matt Hasselbeck (Sea) - He draws Arizona in week 16 and that's all you need to know.

*** Waiver Wire *** QB Drew Brees (SD) - He did not look rusty throwing for 363 yards and 2 scores.  The Chargers are using LaDainian Tomlinson a lot in the passing game and it appears to be working well.

QB Brett Favre (GB) - He seems to be almost all the way back from his thumb injury.  He completed 23 of 33 for 278 yards and 4 TDs.

QB Aaron Brooks (NO) - The rumors were correct…sort of.  Brooks did get replaced by Todd Bouman, but it wasn't due to a poor performance.  After staking the Saints to a huge lead with five TD passes, Brooks was given most of the fourth quarter off.

RB Priest Holmes (KC) - What's better than the best player in fantasy football?  He is on a mission to get the season TD record grabbing another 3 yesterday.  Against Minnesota in week 16 he should be a monster.

RB LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) - He caught 11 passes for 144 yards and 2 TDs yesterday.  He added only 51 yards on the ground, but is an upgrade because the Chargers continue to feature him in the passing game.

*** Waiver Wire *** RB Rudi Johnson (Cin) - He posted 174 yards and 2 TDs on just 21 rushes.  Corey Dillon is still in the mix, but as seen yesterday the Bengals will stay with the hot hand.

RB Kevan Barlow (SF) - He has seized his opportunity the last two weeks.  Yesterday he had 151 yards from scrimmage and 2 TDs.  With the 49ers out of the playoff picture, you have to think they will continue to see what Barlow can do (even if Hearst can play).

*** Waiver Wire *** RB Mike Anderson (Den) - Portis may sit this week and Anderson is first in line to get those carries.

RB Troy Hambrick (Dal) - Hambrick posted 189 rushing yards on 33 carries yesterday (good enough for third most in Dallas history).  He'll likely never match that, but he should have another good outing this weekend against the sliding Giants.

RB Anthony Thomas (Chi) - He played ok this week (79 yards and a TD), but gets the upgrade because he faces the Redskins.  Yes this is who Troy Hambrick just rolled over.

RB Mike Anderson (Den) - Clinton Portis sprained his ankle at the end of yesterday's game, and early reports say the Broncos starting RB will miss a game.  If Anderson is available, he could be an excellent starter this weekend.

RB Shawn Bryson (Det) - He is no longer splitting carries with Olandis Gary.  He finished the day with 18 carries for 105 yards and a TD.  Artose Pinner also looks to have secured the backup job away from Olandis Gary.

RB Shaun Alexander (Sea) - He draws Arizona at home in a game that Seattle should win easily.  Look for him to grind out the clock at the end on his way to a huge day.

*** Waiver Wire *** RB Onterrio Smith (Min) - With Michael Bennett out and Moe Williams limited, Onterrio Smith carried the load for the Vikings.  He  posted 148 yards on 27 carries and added another 10 yards on two receptions.

RB Thomas Jones (TB) - After 34 carries (for 134 yards) yesterday, Jones is definitely Tampa Bay's workhorse back.

WR Donald Driver (GB) - While his 112 yards and a TD catch were likely far too little and far too late for most of the people that drafted him, it was nice to see Driver have a good outing.

WR Kevin Johnson (Jac) - Johnson was the team's leading receiver yesterday with 87 yards and a TD.  While that won't happen every week, Johnson definitely looks more comfortable with the Jaguars.

WR Peter Warrick (Cin) - As defenses game plan to stop Chad Johnson, Peter Warrick is seeing soft coverage on most plays.  He has taken advantage of it with two impressive games in a row.

WR Troy Brown (NE) - Brown finally returned to the field yesterday after missing over a month of action and caught a TD pass.

WR Joe Horn (NO) - Aaron Brooks dialed Horn's number nine times last night for 133 yards and an amazing 4 TDs.  Horn then proceeded to dial his mom's number with a cellphone hidden in the goal post padding.  We likely have not heard the end of this.

WR Tai Streets (SF) - He has been unable to practice much of this year, but he was finally able to play a good game this past weekend.  Maybe his injuries are starting to subside.  He finished the day with 6 catches for 89 yards and a score.

WR Derrick Mason (Ten) - Despite a different QB, he still got 9 receptions and 137 yards yesterday.

*** Waiver Wire *** TE Antonio Gates (SD) - He caught 5 balls for 117 yards yesterday.  With most of the SD TEs hobbled at the moment, Gates looks like an excellent option.

TE Tony Gonzalez (KC) - He is distancing himself from the rest of the tight ends with outstanding play every week.  He added another 93 yards and 2 scores this weekend.

TE Daniel Graham (NE) - He has played himself ahead of Christian Fauria in this offense.  He had 69 yards and a TD on 5 receptions yesterday.

Aberrations

QB Billy Volek (Ten) - Volek filled in very well for Steve McNair, but McNair should return this weekend.

RB Rock Cartwright (Was) - Cartwright ran for a career high 94 yards yesterday, but Trung Canidate should return this weekend so the opportunities won't be there for Cartwright to have a repeat performance.

Downgrades

QB Todd Bouman (NO) - There were big rumblings that Bouman was an Aaron Brooks fumble away from hitting the field.  After Brooks' huge outing yesterday, Bouman is firmly entrenched as the back-up QB.

QB Chad Pennington (NYJ) - Even though the Jets won yesterday, the game was the second straight that saw Pennington fail to toss a TD.  With the Patriots coming to town this Saturday, it won't get any easier.

QB Tim Hasselbeck (Was) - Hasselbeck's 56 passing yards and 4 INTs showed why he had never had an NFL start before two weeks ago.  That was simply dreadful.

QB Michael Vick (Atl) - He was simply awful yesterday completing just 6 of 19 passes for 47 yards with an interception.  This makes him a hard play the rest of the way.  Ouch, what a year.  One game and now he is too risky to play when everyone needs him.

QB Rex Grossman (Chi) - His NFL debut was less than stellar.  He may be the future, but he completed just 13 of 30 passes for 157 yards.

RB Stephen Davis (Car) - This makes two weeks in a row where he had a great matchup and did nothing.  He is running on fumes.

RB Corey Dillon (Cin) - He could get a pass trying to play with the flu, but seeing Rudi Johnson be the man lowers Dillon the rest of the way.

RB Clinton Portis (Den) - Portis isn't here due to his stats (145 total yards and a pair of TDs).  He's here because he limped off the field yesterday in overtime with a sprained ankle.  Early reports have Portis missing one game.

RB Olandis Gary (Det) - Gary did not have a carry yesterday.  He seems to be the odd man out with Artose Pinner getting some action.

RB Moe Williams (Min) - It can't help that Onterrio Smith had a great game with Michael Bennett out and Moe limited.  He will likely see less touches the rest of the way.

RB Michael Pittman (TB) - Even though he still has a role in the passing game (caught 5 balls for 33 yards yesterday), Pittman has been passed by Thomas Jones as the team's primary RB.

RB Maurice Morris (Sea) - He had just 2 carries for 9 yards yesterday.

WR Deion Branch (NE) - With Troy Brown back, Branch's numbers are going to take a big hit.

WR Santana Moss (NYJ) - Teams are double teaming him deep and it is showing in the results.  He had just 44 yards on 5 catches yesterday.

WR Isaac Bruce (Stl) - He left the game with a sprained ankle and did not return.  His status for week 16 is not yet known.

TE Alge Crumpler (Atl) - He had a meager 2 yards on 2 receptions.
