Drinen rambles about something having to do with:
Garrison Hearst
Introduction to these player comments
Last year, Hearst had 1553 yards and 5 TDs. If you use my usual formula to convert that to fantasy points, you get 185.3. But in a lot of leagues, Garrison didn't get credited with 185.3 fantasy points. Because of the traditional fantasy football policies of awarding 1 point per 10 yards (rather than .1 points per 1 yard) and treating rushing and receiving yards separately (rather than throwing it all into one pile called "total yards"), Hearst was only credited with 170 points under many scoring systems. That's 15.3 points worth of "leakage" for Hearst. That is, he gained 153 yards last year that he got no credit for. Only 6 players had more leakage.

Because TDs don't get rounded, yardage-heavy guys are going to have more leakage than TD-heavy players. And because both rushing and receiving get rounded, versatile players are going to suffer more leakage than one-dimensional guys. So the top of the list is populated with versatile, yardage heavy RBs like Garner and running QBs like Gannon. There's also some dumb luck involved. Rod Smith, for example, had only about 6 points worth of leakage. His receiving yard totals just happened to end with 0s and 1s and 2s more often than they ended with high numbers.
