Drinen rambles about something having to do with:
Michael Pittman
Introduction to these player comments
At this point, Pittman's market price reflects the fact that he's likely to be sharing the load with Mike Alstott in the Buc backfield this season. But I'm not convinced that the market has fully accounted for Jon Gruden's committment to running back by committee, which evidently runs much deeper than simply letting two guys share the load. Forget about his top two backs, in Gruden's four years as head man in Oakland, the average combined production for his running backs 3,4,5, and 6 was over 680 total yards and 6 TDs. Over the last two years, it's been 880 yards and 8 TDs. And I don't see how Aaron Stecker, Travis Stephens, Jameel Cook, and Byron Hanspard are any worse than Randy Jordan, Zack Crockett, and Jon Ritchie. So even after you factor out the production that Alstott is going to steal from Pittman, you still might want to consider budgeting another 500 yards and 5 scores (or more) for the other Buc runners. As good as Pittman may be, I just don't think that leaves him with enough to justify where he's being drafted.
