Introduction to these player comments
Before his 2000 injury, I thought Duce Staley was one of the best running backs in the league. Some situation-related issues, in my view, were keeping him from achieving top 5 stats, but I thought he truly was a top 5 back. Last year, Staley was not the same runner that he had been. I guess there are two possible ways to look at this: (1) maybe the injury has permanently turned him into something less than what he was, or (2) maybe last year he was still feeling some lingering effects from the injury. If (2), then there's a chance he could become his former self. If (1), then he rides out the rest of his career as a versatile and pretty decent back, but not one that will help your fantasy squad. Which is it? Your guess is as good as mine, but I'm currently leaning toward (1). Random trivia time: last year, Staley almost had exactly as many rushing yards as receiving. To my knowledge, that feat has been pulled off only once (among players with over 500 yards of each). Here's a list:
