Note: The Monday Injury report will cover only those teams advancing in the playoffs
from now until the end of the season.
Quarterbacks
Green Bay's Brett Favre elected to wear the protective splint on his broken
right thumb after all on Sunday.
Status: Favre threw 26/38 for 319 yards, 1 TD and 0 interceptions on Sunday
- his thumb doesn't appear to be a problem.
Tennessee's Steve McNair aggravated his ankle and calf injuries in the game
on Saturday, but stayed in the game.
Status: McNair was limping for most of the game. As of Monday, coach Fisher
described his QB's situation as follows (Tennessean.com, 01/05/04):
"Fisher said McNair reported to Baptist Sports Park yesterday morning
''sore, but not too bad. The calf was just a little sore, but he didn't re-injure
anything in the calf, the ankle. He had a little bit of swelling in the ankle,
so he seems to be OK. I would think he's going to practice this week."
Running Backs
Philadelphia's Brian Westbrook was seeking a third opinion on his torn triceps
tendon as of 1/3/04, but it doesn't look likely that he will see action against
Green Bay (Westbrook has not been practicing at all during bye-week).
Tennessee's starting RB Eddie George separated a shoulder in the game on Saturday.
Status: George returned to action after the training staff checked out his shoulder
in the locker room, but Chris Brown saw a lot of carries and George played only
sparingly. As of Monday, 01/05/04 (according to Tennessean.com):
"George, who suffered a separated left shoulder while making a tackle
in the second quarter but finished the game, underwent an MRI yesterday morning
which showed no additional damage to the joint other than the strained ligaments
caused by the separation. Fisher said George could practice later this week
and will play Saturday night against the Patriots wearing a harness. ''Eddie
has much more movement in his shoulder than we anticipated,'' Fisher said.
''There's nothing structurally wrong with the shoulder. He's got some swelling,
there's some ligament strains and things. He's very fortunate. We'll probably
shut him down for a couple days, rest, treat it, try to get the swelling out
of there."
Tennessee's reserve RB Robert Holcombe (hamstring) missed the game on Saturday
due to his injury.
Status: Holcombe was listed as questionable on the Friday injury report.
Wide Receivers
Carolina's starting WR Muhsin Muhammed injured his hip (contusion) in the game
Saturday, but returned to action.
Status: Muhammed's injury is considered minor at this time.
Tennessee's reserve WR's Eddie Berlin (concussion) and Jake Schifino (leg)
missed the playoff game.
Status: Both players were listed as questionable on the Friday injury report.
Tight Ends
Carolina's reserve TE Marco Battaglia (knee) missed the playoff game on Saturday.
Status: Battaglia was listed as questionable on the Friday injury report.
Indianapolis' backup TE Dallas Clark (ankle/fractured leg) missed the game
on Sunday, as expected.
Kickers
No injuries of note this week.
Offensive Lineman
Tennessee's LS Ken Amato injured his hamstring and ankle in the game on Saturday.
Status: The severity of the injuries are unknown at this time - Amato will be
evaluated further as the week goes along. If Amato cannot play this week, backup
C Tom Ackerman would handle long-snapping duties.
Defensive Players
Carolina's reserve S and special teams player Jarrod Cooper injured his hamstring
in the game on Saturday.
Status: The severity of the hamstring pull is unknown: Cooper will be evaluated
further as the week goes along.
Green Bay's starting NT Gilbert Brown (knee), reserve DL Chuckie Nworkorie
(wrist) and reserve LB Marcus Wilkins (calf) all missed the playoff game vs.
Seattle.
Status: Brown was listed as probable, Nworkorie was questionable, and Wilkins
doubtful on the Friday injury report.
Philadelphia's starting CB Troy Vincent practiced last Friday, despite his
hip flexor injury, and looks like he's on course to play in the game vs. Green
Bay this week.
Indianapolis' starting S Mike Doss (ankle) missed the playoff game vs. Denver.
Status: Doss was listed as questionable on the Friday injury report.
Kansas City's starting MLB Mike Maslowski tried to run on his injured knee
during practice on Saturday, but was unable to do so due to pain in the knee.
Status: Maslowski is "very questionable" for this week's playoff game.
Kansas City's starting CB Eric Warfield (back) practiced Saturday and feels
"very good".
Status: Warfield is expected to start and play in the playoff game.
Kansas City's reserve LB Monty Beisel (groin) did some running during Saturday's
practice.
Status: Beisel has missed 4 games due to the injury - he will be evaluated further
later in the week regarding his status for this week's game.
Tennessee's starting CB Samari Rolle suffered a concussion during the playoff
game.
Status: Coach Fisher expects Rolle to play this week: ''If he runs around (today)
and has some difficulty, we may hold him back a little bit,'' Fisher said. ''But
he cleared up completely
and felt fine. I introduced myself to him on
the plane and he was OK.'' (Tennessean.com, 01/05/04)
Tennessee's starting LB Rocky Calmus missed the first playoff game due to his
broken leg.
Status: Although listed as questionable on the injury report, Calmus has missed
many games due to this injury and isn't likely to see the field again this year.
