Essential News

QBs Jon Kitna & Carson Palmer (Cin) will soon know who will be the Bengals starting QB for the 2004. HC Marvin Lewis says the coaching staff will make the decision in the coming months and the announcement will be made before the mini-camps begin in May.

QB Brett Favre (GB) will not undergo surgery to repair his broken right thumb.

QB Jeff Garcia (SF) was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving early Wednesday.

QB Kurt Warner (StL) believes he "should be a starter" somewhere next season. He added that he wants to play where he'll remain the starter without a bad game or half sending him back to the bench.

QB Brad Johnson (TB) could be facing the possibility of being cut by the team. It seems Johnson's status could hang in the balance based on whether the team can sign Mark Brunell this off-season.

RB Stephen Davis (Car) practiced on Friday during a closed session. No one outside the team observed Davis, but HC John Fox said "he looked fine." Davis still looks like a game-time decision, but there are rumors floating around that he will play. Our opinion - We believe Davis will start as usual in a game this big.

RB Skip Hicks (Cin) signed with the team.

RB Antowain Smith (NE) practiced on Wednesday and should play this weekend despite an apparent injury to his right leg (he's not listed on the injury report).

RB Duce Staley (Phi) will most likely leave the Eagles this off-season, and there are rumors that he could end up in Dallas.

RB Correll Buckhalter (Phi) practiced on Wednesday and Thursday and should play this weekend.

RB Earnest Graham (TB) has been signed by the team.

WR Marvin Harrison (Ind) practiced all week and will start this weekend.

WR Brandon Stokley (Ind) returned to practice on Thursday and also went in the Friday session. His infant son is still hospitalized with meningitis but is in stable condition. Unless his child's condition worsens, Stokley will join the team late Saturday or early Sunday and play this weekend.

WR Joe Horn (NO) says he will get a personal trainer and "come back in the best shape of my life" for the 2004 season.

TE Dallas Clark (Ind) is still out with his injured ankle.

TE Marcus Pollard (Ind) practiced on Friday after missing Wednesday and Thursday. He is expected to start this weekend.
